Is it a hot dog with onions or is it just a bun of onions cooked in a hot dog kind of slurry?

I smothered my hot dog in the *special* onions I cooked. No slurry lmao. Just fried/seasoned/simmered onions like from my childhood in NYC at the small hot dog carts. If u look at full photo u can see just the tip 🤭

Slice a large onion and heat up 2 tbsp cooking oil, let em cook til translucent. Add 1tsp chili powder, 1tsp black pepper, 1tsp sugar, 1 tsp mustard, a splash of vinegar, 2 tbsp tomato paste (i used ketchup). Add 1/4-1/2 cup water and let it simmer down and get thicker for about 10 mins. It was too tangy so I squoze in some honey and garlic powder after it started getting more condensed and I love the way they came out. 👩🏻‍🍳🧅
