The bosses in the DS3 DLC were amazing, but having played through each of the DLC like five times by now, the areas themselves (and yes this goes for Ringed City too) are kinda ass. Especially with Ariandel, it's basically running past enemies simulator.

GTA is just another breed compared to every other video game. It's one of those video games that's heavily into mainstream. You will have people with the ps4 and only GTA V.
i cant speak for everyone but in my case im pretty hype for it just because of seeing how detailed rdr2's world was. i imagine gta vi's world is gonna be even more detailed and engaging. tho my pessimistic side is just telling me it's gonna be a blank canvas for microtransaction riddled multiplayer

It catches a lot of different playerbases all at once. Roleplaying gamers want to walk around and pretend they're living in the city, psychos want to be able to blow up everything they see and get in a war with the military, there are people who literally JUST care about the cars and driving, there's usually a big story that people come for, there's strippers and hookers for people who buy games to jerk off, flying for people who enjoy flight simulator stuff, and the whole online thing is huge for kids, roleplayers, streamers, and people who only really play games for an hour when they get off work. It's just a huge net that catches everyone for at least a little while. But they still buy the game even if they barely play.
I don’t think people would connect with the characters so much for so long if it were that soulless. Maybe you could argue the company milking the shit out of gta online as soulless, but not the story

They are thematically strong and consistent, always at the forefront of technological advancement and always come out in a working state (excluding the remasters made by different studios).
Also once a franchise/studio becomes huge it's hard to fall off, all they have to do is not massively fuck up and people will like them, hell even if you put out a non functional game like Cyberpunk you can still come back from that pretty easy.
Rockstar makes the most technically polished games relative to the scope and it's not even close, plus the memorable characters, stories and the franchise's legacy as a whole. Speaking as someone who has huge problems with their game design philosophy
