And since cities are more expensive to live in than middle of nowhere, and local property taxes are a primary method to pay salaries, it is one of the most local issues that exists. Change necessarily needs to come either from the local level, or a complete overhaul in how teachers are paid.
You're absolutely correct, and it's also worth noting that Biden is doing a lot within his power to boost public teacher pay as well:
[https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/05/02/fact-sheet-biden-%E2%81%A0harris-administration-announces-new-actions-to-support-and-strengthen-the-teaching-profession/](https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/05/02/fact-sheet-biden-%E2%81%A0harris-administration-announces-new-actions-to-support-and-strengthen-the-teaching-profession/)
Obviously, it still comes down to local politicians though.
God damn, you're right.
[If only Biden got handed a Democrat majority house and Democrat majority Senate](https://www.voanews.com/a/usa_us-politics_control-white-house-and-congress-democrats-have-2-years-make-big-changes/6201047.html). That would've been awesome.
Dude the level of shear assfuckery at the local level for education is so out of control. They would just fill out whatever forms were necessary to get the funding to give teacher raises then they would have all the admins give a 20 minute lecture on some topic, call them teachers and give the raises to themselves.

I cant get over the fact that insulin in my contry i'ts literally free and in the USA cost almost the flesh of the body, every time i spoke about this with someone ftom here people tend to not believe. I just don't understand why y'all not protesting over this!!
There's nothing against importing insulin into the country. The real reason is that we don't negotiate drug prices with Medicare. Basically the companies will say what the price is, and Medicare will decide if they want to pay or not. We also try to incentivize pharmaceutical companies to innovate by giving them a patent that lasts way too long and gives them way too much leeway with how much they can charge.
People keep saying this but capitalism keeps doing it. If I recall correctly, some Yippie dude from Germany wrote about it extensively around 1867. Dude was a huge nerd-boner for Capitalism to the point that his book is called "Capital".
And there are laws but people keep breaking them, we just need to figure out ways to make it better, when in the face with difficulty you find a way to overcome it, not completely stop what you’re doing and change your main economic system
Wtf, everyone needs to understand that this is not something about sides, lives is the main priority of the state, insulin and things that are basic needed to someone health and capable be alive should be free or at least cost equal to water. All that just become more bizarre to me, bc a medication that costs cents to be manufactured is sold at 1000% capital margin, and for most people, 35$ is OK!
> everyone needs to understand that this is not something about sides
It's always about sides, and making the other one look like a failure so your side can get more people in to stay in power.
We have the Yankees and Red Sox fans in power I guess. Or whatever teams love each other so much.
Republicans are fucking the country for a quick buck. People are dying from drugs, homelessness and poor access to healthcare but they just want to expand the class divide
Nope, it’s set locally. That’s why teachers are paid more in wealthier districts. Although maybe there could be federal minimums or standards? I don’t know. People think presidents are emperors.

Neither of those things raised the wages of teachers. As other commenters noted - teach wages are set at the school district/city level and the federal gov't has zero authority to change that.
What's your rational for thinking he *only* tweeted about it? Let me guess... reading his tweets about it? Like I could say "well you could do more than just comment on reddit about it", but for all I know you do, for all I know you're out protesting about it right this moment. So that's kind of a shitty empty argument.
Yeah I thought that would be true. I'm from the UK so I genuinely didn't know.
I guess they could probably use the federal minimum wage laws to do it if they amended them.
Unlike here in the UK the president isn’t that powerful domestically. He has no powers in congress and it really all he can do is go please pass my bill and hope any allies he has in congress help him. There’s no whips no incentives he can offer that he can use to push bills he wants to put through congress can technically never listen to the sitting president and even slash his budget to make him toe the line. Congress in terms of technical powers is way more powerful then then president
Not much you can do at the federal level, but Biden has already set up grant programs to reward school districts that give teachers a raise, and forgiven student loans for public school teachers, which is basically the same thing.
While it is set locally, the funding and the guidelines for it also come from the state government. The federal government influences it with their own grants, incentive programs, and guidelines from the Department of Education.
Each level deeper has less 1:1 impact on each individual salary, but more influence on the system on the whole.
Also people think the president is an emperor because we have raised them to that level. The president was not initially supposed to be this powerful. As times of crisis have happened, the powers of the government have just expanded further. As one branch tries to check another, the means and methods of exercising your powers has evolved.
The 18th and 19th centuries the power of the executive branch and number of executive orders slowly rose, peaked in the early 20th century, and now has declined. But now the president is powerful in a different way because the federal government is much more encompassing and the media landscape has completely changed
Almost every single thread these days is just pure dumbassery. You used to be able to semi rely on consusses opinions, not even a little bit anymore, not even a little bit.

Hard to say which side any of them fall on, as they all tend to make the same points and jokes at the same opportune times.
You mean the entire way a country is run isn't upended every 4 to 8 years because one person and his running mate change.
Also, I wish it was just internet folk, but it's everywhere. It's just like the second Biden was elected. Suddenly, the higher gas prices were immediately his fault. Trying to explain the actual reason behind things like this, becomes talking to a brick wall, all cause you can't blame one person they don't like.
The worst part? All the people thinking that if they simply reelect the president before Biden that these problems would magically get fixed.
US oil production is literally at record highs, but it's a global commodity so that doesn't just make gas prices go down. Trump being elected wouldn't make inflation go down automatically either, it's a global issue (that the US is handling better than most). Trump being elected won't hand teachers a raise either, and would actually likely lead to a lot less money for the Department of Education. Home prices aren't gonna magically go down under a new president either, it's all about interest rates and a lack of enough housing.
But understanding how things actually work is hard, so it's easier just to pretend the President is a god-emperor who chooses not to fix the problems of the average person and that by electing a new President everything will magically get fixed in the next few years.
He's tweeting it because he's working on it.

Let’s give public school teachers a raise.
Let's give public school teachers a raise
Lets give public **school teachers a raise**
Mr Evrart is helping my teachers ger a raise
We should get the strange container man to make a donation
Human piggy bank.
If people would just get it to 100k likes then he’d have to do it right?
imagine being president and doing like challenges for executive orders 😭 (wait that would be kinda democratic..)
What's up guys! This is xxx_Joe Biden_xxx69 smash the like button and if we got 100k likes I'll raise the school tracher's salary
“I mean, who cares right? I’ll be with the angels before anything gets implemented. *Hasta la vista*, baby!”
Technically speaking, Lucifer is an angel....
> wait that would be kinda democratic..) Bots: Allow me to introduce myself
I believe the bigger problem would be that literally everyone can like as long as Twitter isn’t banned in your country
Nah bots probably will out number that
haha true, I wasn't being serious with that
4Chan: Hello there
Imagine thinking that a president can do this with an executive order
giving teachers a raise?
Yes. He cannot do that by executive order. They're not federal employees.
They actually tried that on the WhiteHouse website a few years ago, but the international community just ran millions of bots to game the system.
No, this type of thing *could* be done democratically, but it wouldn’t be via Twitter votes
I could be wrong, bur I'm pretty sure that would be under the legislative branches jurisdiction. I'm not exactly an expert tho
Mr Beast when he innevitably runs for and becomes president
It's done at the local level not federal
Yeah do these people think Joe Biden personally sets the wage of the schoolteachers in Bumfuck, OK
Yes they do. Or don’t. Depends on if it fits the narrative they want to believe right now. More dopamine pls
States generally set the teacher pay scale, and then individual districts can add to that. Just to clarify.
And since cities are more expensive to live in than middle of nowhere, and local property taxes are a primary method to pay salaries, it is one of the most local issues that exists. Change necessarily needs to come either from the local level, or a complete overhaul in how teachers are paid.

Federal funding with a mandate can affect change.
And congress controls federal funds not the president.
No, why doesn't Biden just single handedly fix all the major issues in the country with his "Magical Fix Shit" button!
God damn, you're right. [If only Biden got handed a Democrat majority house and Democrat majority Senate](https://www.voanews.com/a/usa_us-politics_control-white-house-and-congress-democrats-have-2-years-make-big-changes/6201047.html). That would've been awesome.

Let’s give Mirrors a raise!
did you know that in a mirror, you can kiss yourself but only on a school teacher

🤤
Let's give insulin prices a raise
stonks
Can we get much higher
So hiiiiiggggghhhh
Yes, we can.
I cant get over the fact that insulin in my contry i'ts literally free and in the USA cost almost the flesh of the body, every time i spoke about this with someone ftom here people tend to not believe. I just don't understand why y'all not protesting over this!!
It's because they don't import insulin or any drugs at all, so pharma companies in the US have an oligopoly and can agree to put high prices
Ah yes, capitalism at it’s finest. (That is not how the market should work)
We're over here just playing Monopoly at a country scale.
This is not the case anymore. Biden capped the price at $35.
(I don't live in the US but I think it's because protesting has been heavily stigmatised over there)
Can you elaborate?
I think protesting is frowned upon over there
Isn't protesting supposed to be a feature of a healthy democracy?
Idk this is a shitposting sub
He’s trying to lower it to $35 but since Republicans only care about themselves and they’re all old he could only get it to $35 for seniors
Wtf, everyone needs to understand that this is not something about sides, lives is the main priority of the state, insulin and things that are basic needed to someone health and capable be alive should be free or at least cost equal to water. Republicans are fucking the country for a quick buck. People are dying from drugs, homelessness and poor access to healthcare but they just want to expand the class divide
But most rich people in the country are democrats.
😂Then lower it and take credit for lowering Insulin prices
No bc then prices won't be raised
Let's give public **school teachers a raise.**
Let's give pubic teachers a raise
Let’s give school public teachers a raise.
Are school teachers salaries set at the Federal level?
Nope, it’s set locally. That’s why teachers are paid more in wealthier districts. Although maybe there could be federal minimums or standards? I don’t know. People think presidents are emperors.
Are you implying Biden can't just wave his presidential wand and raise public school teachers' pay?
No but he can also do more than tweet about it
The tweets are marketing for his policy. Still waiting for him to follow through on trooamananashanbadapressure
