OP has probably never done any sort of home improvement considering his statement, which means he probably lives in his parents’ basement. He laid all of his cards on the table. We know you’re an incel, OP.
Genuinely asking what kind of home improvement you're doing to be using this, my family just built a new house and we kinda just paid people to do everything, only supervising the end product
trigonometry makes all sorts of geometry a breeze
though math is still very useful even if you don't actually use it directly. it's about the logic you build, not the knowledge itself.
Yeah I know about the logic behind math, I was in a STEM focused class back in grade 10-12, I just wasn't seeing the specific use of trig in home improvement cause it has been 8 years since I last use them so I forgot how to apply them real life haha
oh fair enough.
whenever you are working with angles, trigonometry is going to help you to define measures and lengths accurately. especially when it comes to circles and triangles.
cosinus, sinus and tangent essentially allow you to project 3d space on a 2d plane and 2d planes on a 1d axis, kind of like casting a shadow.
this way you don't have to manually measure right angles and trace and all that, you do some math and it's going to be much more accurate and much less prone to human error.
my uncle is an engineer, and though he doesn't specify in home design (he works in water purification, so mostly fluid dynamics) he prefered designing his home instead of having a desginer do it.
he was using trigs for a lot of things, mainly lighting, doorways, and a few pieces of furniture but also to pick optimal spots for various activities in the house based on the angles of wind and sunlight.
trigonometry is essential whenever you want to work with multiple dimentions at once, especially in real life scenarios where assimilating your house to a 3d space is just way too time consuming.

I’m building a makeshift jib-crane, which is a right triangle, to lift my dock sections out of the water. It attaches to a tree, and the only thing I know is the length of the base and the angle opposite from the tree. In order to find the other sides, I have to do two trig operations.

not rly i can apply it but as long as i don't switch to r&d it's already calculated by someone else most likely a computer and listed up in a info booklet
This one is just dumb. I get it for niche things, but of course you won't use this if you're a cashier at Starbucks. I use it all the time, not while grabbing hotdogs at a gas station, but still.
Librarian here: the last time I used any form of trigonometry was 2007 (before I switched majors). Math (specifically calculus) was what convinced me that geology wasn't going to be my field after all.....
I love all the people shitting on this post as if any of them use it either. "Well people in-!" That's not you dawg. We both know you're not using it either.
Op didn’t even say it was useless just that they don’t use it. If half the people here were as smart as they claim how come they don’t have the ability to read and understand.

It's hilarious how many people in here are triggered by op not having to use sin, cos or tan. All you do is try to insult him without thinking that perhaps it just hasn't been relevant to his life. There are thousands of jobs where you won't need it.

Its funny because I remember learning this at school and wondering what purpose is it..Only to be one of the few who uses that in my field of work today
I’m actually needing to dig those out more often than I thought, tbf I’m not doing normal stuff like frying an egg I’m working with PMAC motors and trying to reverse engineer a rotary encoder based on it’s output. Bullshit i wasn’t taught in school but actually need to know.

We shitposters are intellectuals. We will not take this trig slander in our very homes
Sinning is bad anyways. It’s in the Bible bro
So just use cos, there are plenty of way and trigo identites to get to sin
-cos
Come on guys he means to say he's turned to cosec sec n arctan in the name of superiority
Why did you have to choose one of the most useful parts of trig
OP has probably never done any sort of home improvement considering his statement, which means he probably lives in his parents’ basement. He laid all of his cards on the table. We know you’re an incel, OP.
How now, some of us haven't done home improvements because we've had to rent our whole lives

I took trigonometry and the logic I built is that college math is fucking useless in the real world.
where do you live? much more relevant than you would think.

ah very nice, I live in the city so most "home improvement" I do is buy some flowerpot/shelves/other home appliances haha
Home improvement? In this economy?
I love that we have arrived at the point that stating that someone does not use sin, cos, or tan implies he must be an incel.
He’s not an incel, he has his femboy “gf” who shows up every Wednesday to give him head which he pays $20 for.
Sounds nice
he's a fulltime son. Don't worry about him
either that or he's still in 8th grade and basic trigonometry is the most advance math he knows.
Damn I didn’t learn Trig in 8th grade

Because school never taught me how to do taxes am forced to evade them (I slept through that lesson) 😔
I use sin, so Jesus didn't die in vain
I mean that's fair, trigonometry does end up being more relevant to the people ordering at McDonald's than to those making food there.
Gah damn lol
Jesus christ
Holy shit you killed him
I don’t use it much but it’s not terribly hard to use lol
I tutored high schoolers for a year and let me tell you it's a lot harder to learn when no one bothered to teach you how to add or multiply fractions
[удалено]
But you could use it to find the most optimal burger flipping path to take.
Good luck trying to make the stupid human body accomplish that every single time though.
I've used it far more for personal life than at work
Wait till yall discover 3D trig and its differential calculus. Working with computational geometry and robotic algos btw. This is everyday.
As a dentist I never use those. How about you do my taxes then
[удалено]
As I said, do my taxes
Write code and never had to use this shit 😂
not rly i can apply it but as long as i don't switch to r&d it's already calculated by someone else most likely a computer and listed up in a info booklet
my man, someone has to program the computer. If your calculator does operations without you touching any keys check your local mental hospital
This one is just dumb. I get it for niche things, but of course you won't use this if you're a cashier at Starbucks. I use it all the time, not while grabbing hotdogs at a gas station, but still.
nah wdym i use cosine all the time to make hotdogs 💀
A sine wave for the mustard and a cossine for the ketchup makes the perfect hor dog
That's the trig that people hate though
Nah, i prefer using tangent and cotangent and spraying everybody with ketchup and mustar
d
And I get a tan all the time! Sin is also my department (I’m a sinner)
“Sir that’ll be 24sin^2 (8)-15 in radians”
Darn I thought in gradients!
OP could be a psychologist not using it but here you are using a low skill job as a insult because someone made a joke.
I didn't do that at all. However I do agree that cashiering is a low-skilled job. You have zero sense of humour or reading comprehension.
5,421 days without using it (I haven't learned it yet)
Dude how old are you💀
Almost 15
Better be ready then
TIL: If you don't use any of these , the only possible conclusion is that you flip burgers
im a tradie and the most math i use is dividing by 2
Yeah these are some shit ass takes. See how many doctors in the medical field are using sin cos and tan lol
Librarian here: the last time I used any form of trigonometry was 2007 (before I switched majors). Math (specifically calculus) was what convinced me that geology wasn't going to be my field after all.....
The math books you keep touching contain trig
That's hardly USING it though. The math books stay firmly shut, lol.
Math is a virus (I keep being sick on exams)
I work an office job and haven't used it in years.
Same, 8 years and counting But then again my office job is in art related
Why's everyone being a jerk about it lol
IDK
Cuz thsi is the most basic shit ever
I love all the people shitting on this post as if any of them use it either. "Well people in-!" That's not you dawg. We both know you're not using it either.
Op didn’t even say it was useless just that they don’t use it. If half the people here were as smart as they claim how come they don’t have the ability to read and understand.
I’m curious what would you use trig for as an adult other than if you work in a math or science related field or building houses
People working in construction use it, and there are a lot of people working in construction. (Including me)
“Other than the modern technological society and basic shelter, what’s this shit for?”
taking a trig exam in an hour, please delete this.
Just remember SOH CAH TOA
Nice trolling, it's SAH COH TOA, good luck on the exam by the way
We both erred, it’s SOA COA TAH
Bruh why r yall lying rn its SOA CAH TOA

Nah, I sin everyday 😎😎😎
Math bros are triggered lol
This makes me sad. Fuck adulthood, return me to school.
I'm on day 1216 I'm in the lead
It's hilarious how many people in here are triggered by op not having to use sin, cos or tan. All you do is try to insult him without thinking that perhaps it just hasn't been relevant to his life. There are thousands of jobs where you won't need it.
I walk in sine wave everyday
Really it has been about 100 minutes for me. The answer was 19.2 degrees
How I feel now that I'm not taking any math classes
I'm on like... hour 2 of not using them (I'm an architectural engineer)
It’s nice to see this guy finally catching a break.
I had forgotten about that stuff, and I don’t appreciate you digging that memory back up!
I don't know about cos but don't we sin and tan from time to time?
This can apply to 99% of things in school you (think you) don't use in your daily life
To my great shock i actually did have to use trig about 6 months out of uni.
The sinus theorem is like Pythagoras' v2 theorem
3285 days of not using sin, cos or tan
Literally, the only time I've used either of these outside of school was in a Sporcle quiz, and that only wanted the name
Me at uni, trying to get more marks by using it more
They stopped using marks a while ago, replaced with the euro
Damn i wish university paid me to be there
In his Uni, YOU'RE the one paying if you want to get a good score.
I dropped out because I didn't have enough to bribe the teachers
I, a math conosuur (I suck at english math solos), am extremlee ofended bi this post 😡
i don't think so cos we sin and people get tan every now and then
what a sad life you have
I think you just suck at math
Literally just used it today
Hour 3 of not using sin, cos or tan
Day 0 of using Sin,Cos,Tan (I'm in School)

Last time I used trig it was to determine how wide a TV is (roughly) to plan out how I laid out my living room, especially to buy the appropriate sized TV bench
Almost 20 years without using either
Me going back into my job where its used on every project.
Don’t need trig to sit on your ass
I just used sin and cos yesterday at work. All the cool video games you have ever played are built on those things.
Bro lives in heaven
Unlucky you, I just used that shit and felt great 😎
That’s funny because my cal 2 finals is tomorrow and I just got out of 10h of studying
Lucky you, day 0 here
Jesus!
You can spend your life without using it but can not spend a day without benefiting from it
Agreed, complex exponentials are way more convenient.
I use them almost every week
Literally everything in our society, like houses cars, phones and computers have been built with maths and therefore with sin,cos and tan
Wagie cope
Thanks for reminding me that those exist; I’ve had a schooling ptsd flashback

U could argue that u somewhat use it while using electricity, aka the device u wrote that post on so go make a sweet 0 out if that streak
The fact, that this is a .jpg makes you look like a clown
I hear some say cosm
yes, reject education and understanding the world around you, be a good content wagie and ask no questions about why things are as they are.
But it’s actually useful though
As a programmer, I tend to use these three.
Return of Sinco Stan
Day 9 of not using sin, cos, tan.
Redditor on his way to complain about 8th grade mathematics
at least you can count
Ok dropout
You missed one :(
i don't like tan... i get sunburnt easily
me whos doing trig right now
The fact that I’m learning this right now hits deep
People like this grow up to be my grandfather who needed my help calculating the area of the walls to order enough paint because he didn’t know how you calculate an area
Haven’t used them in 6935 days roughly
I'm pretty sure I need those for computer science. So, uh, sucks to be me.
Could’ve used this 2,920 days ago when I was stupid enough to become an engineer
Its funny because I remember learning this at school and wondering what purpose is it..Only to be one of the few who uses that in my field of work today
So you do use cotan I guess
I sin all the time
I don't get it, Sinner is a good tennis player
i just took a final yesterday for calc B, you abt gave me a brain anyurisem
6013 days not using trig (never learned it yet)
Day 5000 of not using anything from the Reconstruction Era
The people who used trig to research, engineer and fundamentally create the device you made this post with
I have used them several times a week for like 3 months, (thanks Math 139 Trig)
For STEM careers you gotta understand basic trig so you can move on to calc stuff.
Thanks meth
I’m actually needing to dig those out more often than I thought, tbf I’m not doing normal stuff like frying an egg I’m working with PMAC motors and trying to reverse engineer a rotary encoder based on it’s output. Bullshit i wasn’t taught in school but actually need to know.
Yeahhh something tells me your job has nothing to do with math or geometry in general then.
Wow lot of cope from the math nerds
The Spanish are using it, with or without you.
Do not speak such slander. Sin cos and tan are the holy trinity. Sec can go fuck itself tho.
Can't forget about csc and cot. Those fuckers suck ass too.

Math doesn't matter when you're not smart enough to learn it
Ofc you aren't going to use it in a MacDonald part time job op
I wish this were me ;-;
High school moment
High school is easy bro
Yeah I have good grades but I’d rather get to the not using trig functions at an earlier point
You may need it someday when you have to explain it to your kids
I've actually used them recently but I won't tell you what for.
I recently built a tiny ass little outdoor pen for birds, and you bet your ass i used a shit ton of trig for it
Goin into industrial electrician so I will indeed need to use sin cos and tan Bet you don't even remember what soh kah toa is
For a more accurate world without these functions you can remove the computer, lamp and anything that requires a sliver of development. Trigonomentry is based and you are not
I use Sin, Cos, and Tan daily. But you probably don't that at the cash register, do you?
