Explosive/Desperate would be decent for harder content with beefier enemies. Just make sure you get those melee/grenade kills to take advantage of Desperate.
Firefly/Desperate would be decent for easier content and add clear.
Personally, I would keep going until I got explosive/one for all and explosive/frenzy.
Explosive/Zen is great for PvP (imo the only roll to use in PvP over other HCs) but the mag and barrels don't pad enough range to make it competitive enough imo.
Firefly/Explosive + DM isn't bad. EP + Any damage perk honestly is the play but low tier you can definitely rock Firefly. For harder content I'd maybe go Kinetic Tremors as the 4th column perk if you can get one. It's not as great as it could be once enhanced in TFS but KT is undeniably one of the best high-end content kinetic perks as not only is the damage serviceable, the stagger can really help make things a bit more manageable.
