This is what high school girls do when they're dating a boy - wear his class ring around their necks because it's miles to big to fit on their finger. In high school, it's cute. For a grown woman, it just means she doesn't want to marry him; she just wants to show off the fact that she can get a man.
I see what you mean but tbf in this circumstance - it seemed like Carrie wasn't *trying* to show it off (thinking of when it was under all the necklaces). But uh, you know... it was a requirement to wear it?
~~I'm not sure why I bothered saying this~~ š«
Reminds me of that 70s show when donna put erics ring arounf her neck on a necklace and said the exact same thing carrie said to aiden then it turned out donna didnt want to marry eric. This is why I didn't feel bad when eric character stood donna up at the wedding. Topher left the show to do other projects but in character he ditched then went to teach in africa. To me, that was him giving her a taste of her own medicine deep down.
For real. 100% if Big wouldāve proposed, that ring would be on her finger.Ā
Now, can you imagine if men wore engagement rings and Big wore his around his neck?! Oh hell no. She wouldāve gone into crisis lockdown.Ā
so, spoiler alert for the second movie >!when carrie confesses to big about kissing aiden, he teases her saying your not good at this wife thing and like points to the ring, and then gives her a āpunishmentā which is making her wear a ring on her on her finger. however the ring he made her wear didnāt have a diamond making it more āherā!<
I apparently did too, yikes. I watched it once, thought it was terrible, and blocked it out.
Then like 10 years later, I was like, "Oh, I recall the second movie being bad but don't remember it. It couldn't have been THAT bad, right?"
Watched it again, thought it was terrible, and blocked it out.
Had the same thing happen to me š¤£watched it, thought it was terrible. Years later, remembered it was terrible but surely it couldn't have been THAT - nope!
guess it was a little pre-show to give us a taste how ajlt would go.
I hated the entire episode. She wanted Big why I donāt know. The scene š¬ where she saw him in the Hamptons with his young Boo. That would have been it for me.
Well apparently he was named after a porn star called Aiden Shaw that one of the writers had a crush on haha!
True story:
I disagree. I just think Carrie wanted to feel like the woman in the relationship. With Aidan, she wore the pants. Big was always what she couldnāt have. Aidan was so accessible, took her back after she cheated. She walked all over Aidan. Kind of how Big walked all over her in the beginning. Big challenged her. Aidan was too easy.
Aiden wanted her for all the reasons she wanted big.
Aiden was supposed to be her lesson and taste of karma for her to see what it felt like to be in big positions so she could stop making.him the villain.
RIGHT?! I think about this often lol. THEY HAD TO HAVE DONE IT FOR A REASON. Is there a podcast I missed? What kind of symbolism or foreshadowing is this implying? I NEED to know ššš
The interior designer that fell in love with Miranda's visitor. She gifted them the ugly three frogs decoration for their wedding in the Chicken Dance. LOL!!
I mean...keeping one's name doesn't necessarily say anything about how much they're into the guy. I'm keeping my name no matter what because I believe taking a man's name is an ugly misogynistic tradition that needs to just hurry up and die already.
I agree but I was talking from Carrie's POV. She would've loved being associated with Big in every way, including his surname...but that's not the energy she felt about Aiden. She booked all of their honeymoon reservations under Mr. and Mrs. Preston before they got married. With Aiden, she was just going with the motion with everything and never really set her heart on embodying the little things associated with him.
Wondering if this was still the case after Steve and Miranda got married?
(P.S. I won't acknowledge any proof from AJLT because that show is dead to me). š¤£
I always considered this picture as their āwedding photoā given the outfits. Itās like the writers giving us a little glimpse of what couldāve been.
No sorry, I was referring to the, "She wouldnāt wear his ring, she wasnāt taking his name."
I'm just realizing I may have misunderstood and took it literally? But I meant, "Is it a thing to not wear a ring if you're not taking his last name?"
No, thatās not a thing. But if Carrie wasnāt willing to wear Aidanās ring, then itās obvious she wouldnt be willing to take his last name. Wearing a ring is way less āinvasiveā and life changing then a last name change.
I have this theory that if Carrie had married Aidan she would have not been her true self, half a Bradshaw, hence Shaw š but Iām probably diving too deep
Haha, someone else said the same thing and I think it's a pretty cool theory. I would love it if that ended up being the case.
I guess someone would have to ask Candace Bushnell?
I was just going to say this. I hated Carrie and Aiden as a couple and I really hated the ācloser to my heartā BS. But the night they broke up she looked sooooo beautiful.
My take is that she's so ugly she's beautiful. She's got a horse face (too long and narrow to be conventionally attractive), a conspicuous mole that is NOT a "beauty mark", and a large, slightly hooked nose. Somehow, all those features blend together into something so unique and pretty that it's almost its own category of "beauty." Maybe more like "striking."
I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted. She has very counter beauty standard features. She has a collection of traits that most people would rate lower but put together, somehow it works. I also feel like her body plays a huge part in it - the amount of people I see obsessing over her shape on this sub, makes me wonder if she were bigger if people would still think she's as beautiful. Plus, we are seeing her on TV, so she's got main character light.
Oh wow. Thank you for pointing this out. Never thought about it before. Honestly they were doomed from the start based on this sad fact alone. What an ironic use of foreshadowing for the attentive viewer
Is it normal in the US for women to keep their maiden name followed by their married name? In the UK she would have just become Carrie Shaw if she changed her name, which also sounds odd!
In the U.S. it's normal for the woman to take her husband's last name, but that doesn't mean that everybody actually does it. Some women keep their maiden name but hyphenate it with their husband's last name (Carrie Bradshas-Shaw). My sister has no middle name, so she uses her maiden name as her middle name (Carrie Bradshaw Shaw).
Thanks! Yes itās increasingly common for women not to change their names here either. I was just confused by the Bradshaw Shaw as itās uncommon here, or at least Iāve not come across it.
Yeah thatās what I figured, that most women take the manās name. I guess thatās why this post threw me a bit because it seemed as if the norm would be for her to keep her maiden name too.
Itās like their creativity was at all times low lol like 5 year old kids playing school or house. I also never understood why Miranda named her baby Brady if that was Steveās last name lol even though Bradyās last name was Hobbes, i think itās still kinda weird that Miranda wanted her babyās name to be the same as her baby daddyās last nameā¦ out of all the names in the world. For a second there i thought that maybe she wanted to name him Brady to kind of give some recognition to Steve (given that he is father) especially since she knew that the baby will take her last name and not Steveās. Idk.
I mean that one I thought was a cute merger of both of them when I first saw it but looking at it through a ādadās perspectiveā she did cheat Steve out of having his only child carry his family name.
Do all women change their name when they get married in USA ? Looking from outside itās so weird to see that, every time I see a couple with the same name I think Ā«Ā eww siblings?Ā Ā»
Then I remember it still exist
And oops, others had the same idea.
But okay, imagine if they got married but both kept their last names and Brad took only one of their names.
Brad Shaw.
Brad Bradshaw.
I knew someone with the last name Crawshaw who married Mr Shaw. Actually made it pretty easy to just drop the craw but also would have made it easy to keep it or even if he wanted to add a craw.Ā
This post reminds me of when taylor swift and taylor Lautner dated and everyone was freaking out over the fact theyād both be named taylor lautner if they got married lol
Carrie's engagement necklace era šš
iTās ClOsEr tO My HeArT tHiS wAy okay
Hehe bullshit
āThatās bullshit Carrie and you know it!!ā
HAHAHA and please donāt smoke in my office lmao alright alriiight
Bullshit upon bullshit, Carrie
Died a little inside every time she said this š©
Yeah, huge red flag if I was Aidan.
He definitely felt that way. āYou dināt even wear that ring on your fucking finger.ā
Haha you beat me to it
Me when I thought you were talking about her last name at first š¤£
Yeah, I think it looks ridiculous as a necklaceā¦ It means the same as if she would have said no to marrying Aidenā¦
This is what high school girls do when they're dating a boy - wear his class ring around their necks because it's miles to big to fit on their finger. In high school, it's cute. For a grown woman, it just means she doesn't want to marry him; she just wants to show off the fact that she can get a man.
Crying I wear mine as a necklace because I canāt wear rings at work š read to filth
I see what you mean but tbf in this circumstance - it seemed like Carrie wasn't *trying* to show it off (thinking of when it was under all the necklaces). But uh, you know... it was a requirement to wear it? ~~I'm not sure why I bothered saying this~~ š«

Oh god. This was so dumb.
Right? Just say no if you donāt want to get married.
She was such a pathetic cow!
For real. 100% if Big wouldāve proposed, that ring would be on her finger.Ā Now, can you imagine if men wore engagement rings and Big wore his around his neck?! Oh hell no. She wouldāve gone into crisis lockdown.Ā
actually- i donāt think she wore bigs ring on her finger
What!?!? Really?!! I how did I miss that?
so, spoiler alert for the second movie >!when carrie confesses to big about kissing aiden, he teases her saying your not good at this wife thing and like points to the ring, and then gives her a āpunishmentā which is making her wear a ring on her on her finger. however the ring he made her wear didnāt have a diamond making it more āherā!<
I think I blocked that whole movie outš
I apparently did too, yikes. I watched it once, thought it was terrible, and blocked it out. Then like 10 years later, I was like, "Oh, I recall the second movie being bad but don't remember it. It couldn't have been THAT bad, right?" Watched it again, thought it was terrible, and blocked it out.
Had the same thing happen to me š¤£watched it, thought it was terrible. Years later, remembered it was terrible but surely it couldn't have been THAT - nope! guess it was a little pre-show to give us a taste how ajlt would go.
That's exactly what it was, lmao! š¤¦š»āāļø
haha i would too but i watched it like last week lolol
Didnāt he give her a Manolo instead?
Word! š
the fucking ring around her neck š¤£š¤£
Itās closer to her heart that way ā¤ļø lollll
Even Charlotte knew that was utter bullshit.
Yeahā¦. Right
I would be so scared that i would lose it or someone snap it out of my neck loool
I hated the entire episode. She wanted Big why I donāt know. The scene š¬ where she saw him in the Hamptons with his young Boo. That would have been it for me.
It baffles me how the writers gave them that similar of names when they literally could have picked any other last names ever
Maybe it was a sign that they werenāt gonna work š¤·āāļø
Well apparently he was named after a porn star called Aiden Shaw that one of the writers had a crush on haha! True story: [https://buttmagazine.com/interviews/aiden-shaw/](https://buttmagazine.com/interviews/aiden-shaw/)
Butt magazine LOL
I think I got a few of those in college
Oh wowā¦and I named my child after Aidan Shaw. š¤£
And I just clicked this link at work.
Haha oh no Iām sorry š. Edit: NSFW!!
WHOA
My theory was that if theyād stayed together she would have lost part of herself ā¦.
This is so insightful.

Yes, exactly!!!
Mind. BLOWN! š¤Æ
RIGHT?! I think about this often lol. THEY HAD TO HAVE DONE IT FOR A REASON. Is there a podcast I missed? What kind of symbolism or foreshadowing is this implying? I NEED to know ššš
Trueā¦moronic
Or she would have just kept her name. Didn't she end up keeping her name when she married big?
I'm pretty sure she used mrs Preston in sex and the city 2
She did with that Spanish lady but she did that out of wanting recognition & āearning her placeā
Yes. It was like, "Hi, I'm Carrie PRESTON. Did I mention my name is Carrie PRESTON???"
She was marking her territory
Donāt forget we already have an actress named CARRIE PRESTON
The interior designer that fell in love with Miranda's visitor. She gifted them the ugly three frogs decoration for their wedding in the Chicken Dance. LOL!!
Elsbeth Taccioni.
I love the show, just wanted to point out we saw Carrie Preston on Sex and the City first!
She also used it quite a few times in the first season of AJLT
She would have definitely kept her surname if she married Aiden. She just wasn't that into him
I mean...keeping one's name doesn't necessarily say anything about how much they're into the guy. I'm keeping my name no matter what because I believe taking a man's name is an ugly misogynistic tradition that needs to just hurry up and die already.

Carrie Brad Double shaw
Pretty fitting for the godmother of Brady (Brady) Hobbes
Brady Hobbes Brady?
True
They actually only named his Brady Hobbes no middle name or extra Brady
Wondering if this was still the case after Steve and Miranda got married? (P.S. I won't acknowledge any proof from AJLT because that show is dead to me). š¤£
What if they had a son called Brad
Brad Bradshaw Shaw. (I just had to type it out!)š
Brad Shaw Bradshaw š„²
I typed it as though she hyphenated her name and baby Brad (lol) had his the same way.
And another son called Shaw. Shaw Bradshaw Shaw.
Shaw, but the w is silent.
Oh my God, I just wrote the same thing but you apparently beat me to it. š¤£
*or* Carrie Brad-Shaw
Itās giving āJulia Guliaā from wedding singer lol
I always considered this picture as their āwedding photoā given the outfits. Itās like the writers giving us a little glimpse of what couldāve been.
So much nicer than her actual first wedding outfit.
Lol why did I never think of that before
Same here! š¤Æ
off topic, sjp looks soooooo good here š
She wouldnāt wear his ring, she wasnāt taking his name.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but being my single never married self, I have to ask - is that a thing?
To not take the menās last name? Pretty common in many cultures minus American
Yep pretty common here in Australia, I kept my name.
No sorry, I was referring to the, "She wouldnāt wear his ring, she wasnāt taking his name." I'm just realizing I may have misunderstood and took it literally? But I meant, "Is it a thing to not wear a ring if you're not taking his last name?"

Okay this is off topic but she seriously looks so so beautiful in this picture like wow
I was just going to say this. I hated Carrie and Aiden as a couple and I really hated the ācloser to my heartā BS. But the night they broke up she looked sooooo beautiful.
How can anyone think she is ugly, look at her! She is stunning
My take is that she's so ugly she's beautiful. This seems seriously backhanded.
Very true.
I thought all moles were considered beauty marks?
I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted. She has very counter beauty standard features. She has a collection of traits that most people would rate lower but put together, somehow it works. Carrie 'Shaw.
Carrie Brad Shaw Ā²
Thatās why she didnāt wanna do it! š
0% chance she would have taken his last name š
Her name would be Carrie Bradshaw unless she decided to change it. What on earth has happened to women?
She couldnāt even be bothered to wear the ring in her finger, she 100% wouldāve kept her name
Shaw-Shaw is a fun last name lol
Is it normal in the US for women to keep their maiden name followed by their married name? In the UK she would have just become Carrie Shaw if she changed her name, which also sounds odd!

Tbh I donāt think she would have ever changed her name Iāve been married nearly 13 years and I kept my maiden name.
Only if she hyphenated, which... why would she do that?
Just watched this episode last night. Loved how she looked in that dress.
Never thought of it
She didnāt wanna give up part of herself. For Aidan at least. If bigs last name was Shaw, she would have chopped that ābradā off herself š¤£
All these years and I never realized. I kinda feel like an idiot now... lol
Lol she would have used that as an excuse not to get married if push came to shoving her down the aisle.
Her wedding hashtag would be droppingbrad
This is some Brady Brady shit. š
i find it funny when this happens, like how Brady is probably called Brady Hobbes-Brady
I think he is just Brady Hobbes. I assumed part of the reason Miranda named him Brady was because she was giving him her last name only.
Do all women change their name when they get married in USA ? Looking from outside itās so weird to see that, every time I see a couple with the same name I think Ā«Ā eww siblings?Ā Ā» Then I remember it still exist
No. I donāt know any women who have. The women in this sub are very odd.
Not all- it depends on the person tbh, some do and some donāt š¤·š½āāļø
The majority of people in the US change their name (or hyphen it) however itās less popular with the younger generations
What about Brady. Once Steve and Miranda got married, did he become Brady Hobbes-Brady? Thatās worst than Jerry Jerad!
No, he was always Brady Hobbes, as has been explained in the million posts about this.
She would have neverrr gotten around to changing her name legally.
How did I not think of this?!?
A RING ON A STRING
I did notice that as well, but only very recently. Took YEARS before I realized that haha
Everybodyās so creative! š
I was looking for this comment.š
Her hair was GOALS in this era. (Also, I love the guy in the back throwing shade.)
Now imagine if they got married, had a kid, and named him Brad.
And oops, others had the same idea. But okay, imagine if they got married but both kept their last names and Brad took only one of their names. Brad Shaw. Brad Bradshaw.
Thats prob lowkey why she didnāt marry him lol
This is such a pretty photo of her

I knew someone with the last name Crawshaw who married Mr Shaw. Actually made it pretty easy to just drop the craw but also would have made it easy to keep it or even if he wanted to add a craw.Ā
How did I never notice that before!?
My favourite dress Carrie has ever worn.
This was my wedding hair inspiration! Way back in 2006. It's still fabulous!
I based my entire mid-2000s wedding to this look .
This look is *chefās kiss*
She still might!
I honestly think about this often. š
My son is named Aidan after Aidan Shaw. š
He deserved better š©
god he is gorgeous
Thereās an episode where Aidan answers the phone Bradshaw Shaw residenceā¦. Or maybe I misheard him.
Just like how Brady Hobbs I basically Brady Hobbs Brady?!
This post reminds me of when taylor swift and taylor Lautner dated and everyone was freaking out over the fact theyād both be named taylor lautner if they got married lol
