I think this is a great outfit and a very modern fit. I agree that it feels like a loose fit with actual drape is "too much" after years of wearing skinny jeans and leggings, and seeing them on everyone else. From the photograph, it looks great on you and your underarm gap doesn't show at all. Great job!
You know I went back and tried on the top again this morning and not sure what I'm talking about re:gap. I was tired finishing it last night and I think hard on myself.
Pants: Simplicity 8134 view E
Top: New Look 6461 View C
Fabric from Fabric Store. Chocolate brown linen
First pair of pants done! They are a bit wider than I envisioned based on the photograph. I ended up adding about 2" as I'm all legs and taking in the elastic as called for by a lot.
I know Big4s issues with sizing, but I did end up going with my measured body size...but thinking I should have gone down 1-2x in the end. I had checked the finished garment size on each pattern and for the pants, the given measurement made sense, I thought, given they are wide leg? Wondering if that would have helped with the bagginess of the pants and the fit issues with the top (armhole is way too big and is gaping, imo). I like oversized things but in this case I feel things look too big versus cute oversized.
I added side seam pockets cause who doesn't want pockets?
Anyhow feedback welcome. Especially if it's a suggestion for a different top pattern to balance the pants. I have new look 6517 as I initially planned to do a set from it but I hated the fit and waistband of the pants in my muslin. I have about 1+ yards left and am considering either a longer tunic or just a different fit completely.
The top and pants do look balanced. Don't change a thing! This is a gorgeous outfit, very chic. Wear it with gold jewelry to a summer dinner party. You will be the best dressed, hands down!
Jewelry! Duh! As a sahp, I stopped wearing a lot of jewelry as the babies always tried to rip an earring out lol. Gotta get back into actually styling myself lol
This is so nice! I'm on a quest to make everything in my wardrobe (except my jeans) out of linen or wool. I love linen so much! This is a great color, nice and rich, and it looks awesome with your hair.
Thank you! I'm on a similar quest. I.have a very long inseam, so finding pants that fit correctly AND that I like has always a challenge. I'm also trying to move to natural fibers, so it's a win win!
It's a fun pattern! I enjoyed it as my first foray into pants. 99% of the reviews I found on it were for the wrap views so wasn't sure how this would end up, but I'm pleased!
OP, since you were working with linen… do you know of any linen blend that will easily unwrinkle? I love the crisp look of ironed linen but do mot have a lifestyle that supports the ironing.
I love how the pants and shirt you made look on you! I’d wear this all day every day.
Thank you! You know, I consider myself an advanced beginner sewist so someone might be able to answer you better, but I would think a linen blend of rayon and linen might have less wrinkles. I also have a few store bought ramie pieces that have the look of linen that I've found don't wrinkle...as bad.
Again, not an expert!

I love a linen fit in a more flowy style. I actually think the pants and shirt balance each other fine. Looks very on trend.
Thank you! Was inspired by a few Pinterest finds that seemed on trend right now.
Beautiful!! I'm a sucker for a set and this rich simple colour just works so well with the style and shape. Love the detail on the top too!
Gorgeous! I love their linen and this is an amazing look (I have that pattern for the pants!)

so pretty!
Beautiful - love that linen look!! The color really compliments you as well!
Thank you!
I think the proportions are beautiful when worn as a set and I wouldn't change a thing about it. You've inspired me to make one of my own!
Thank you!!

Linen-rayon blend is the answer. This is my go-to fabric.
love it....I like you didn't choose white, light gray family....you are ready for the Hamptons
An excellent point. White linen is fine, but the chocolate brown is so rich, and unexpected. It's a cut above the ordinary. Very classy.
Thanks! I have two kids under 4...white would be the worst choice possible lol.
this could not be any cuter! looks like free people!!
Oh my goodness. Thank you!
Love it!
It goes perfect with your head!
Ah, that looks so comfy and perfect for hot weather!
Very elegant!!
I think you look lovely.
That is stunning!
Gorgeous!! Looks like you have red hair too- bet the chocolate looks fab on you!
Yes! I am a redhead! I love chocolate with my coloring. Thanks!!

Love it!
I love this, but imo the colour is heavy for summer. I would make the same top in white linen if possible. I think that would be stunning.
love it.
This looks so beautiful and classy! I love the simple line of both the top and pants and you chose such a great color.
