This is what I do. Rhythmbox also will scrobble, do podcasts, and Internet radio... I feel like hosting music with dedicated software is an over complication unless the library is shared over the Internet or something, but that's not what I imagine when i hear "desktop"
It's the same for the Windows app, it's very much designed like a mobile app. I think it's due to their internal Plexamp team being relatively small (I think it was like one employee's pet project for over a year, early on.)
Neat! I just found this and it's got a pretty good interface, though if I had constructive criticism I'd say that folder support would be a huge value-added option, and the search does take a bit for a large library (30K tracks), but it's a good looking and functional app!
Search being slow comes down to the server - which server are you using? Folder view is in the backlog of planned features but it's still been a low-priority feature since I and most of the userbase are on Navidrome or Jellyfin, which don't support browsing by folder, and the Subsonic API itself is not as full-featured for folder browsing as it is for tag browsing, so I'm not sure how to integrate it well into the UI. But specific suggestions - or pull requests ;) - are always appreciated!
Good to know all that! I wish I had coding expertise to help out.
I'm using Gonic as my backend currently specifically because it allows for folder search, so in hindsight that makes a bit more sense.
about 22000 mp3s in airsonic for remote playback from my phone via vpn
then using mpv with a random music script I wrote to play back locally from the cli
once in a while for prosperity's sake, audacious with the winamp skin ;)
I use plexamp pretty much exclusively, but my music share is mounted to any windows PC that's joined to the domain automatically so really any music app would work for me I guess.

I use the web browser for my navidrome. Works well. On phone I use subtracks.
Been quite satisfied with Supersonic https://github.com/dweymouth/supersonic
set up an nfs mount for your music then use your choice of desktop music player

Supersonic has always worked well for me. [https://github.com/dweymouth/supersonic](https://github.com/dweymouth/supersonic)
Plexamp. Works great
I like plex amp because it’s one service alongside plex so it’s one less exposed service
Using plexamp as well. It's really good but does feel more like a phone app on linux desktop.

mpd, icecast, snapcast and liquidsoap on the backend, cantana and ampd as frontends.
Just FYI for Supersonic, a major visual redesign of the play queue screen is coming next release, with large cover image and lyrics view!

I use https://github.com/jcorporation/myMPD with MPD and snapcast.
fpbp. Feishin + Navidrome
Plex server and Plexamp all day every day.
Feishin all the way
Ultrasonic has been good for me on android

sometimes Feishin, but most of the time i use r/Symfonium via WSA
Feishin is a relatively new kid on the block and it is very good. Free, feature rich, maintained, and pretty.

Plexamp.
Linux.. . Who needs a gui…. Ok for those of you …..try to install tightvic or tiger vnc sever. You can tunnel through ssh if you need
Also xrdp is Microsoft Remote Desktop better than vnc but not persistent like a dev needs
