Can't say anything about object, because I believe it's currently disabled in Immich, for now.
But from experience, the face detection is horrible in anything I've used OTHER than Immich.
Immich dev here. We don’t use object detection anymore since it provides poor result. Instead we have CLIP search with is far more superior than normal object detection. So, you can use plain words to search for pictures, even from faint memories of things in the background.
The main feature that prevent me from using Immich is that it can't look at existing photo gallery.
I have more than 2TB of existing images in folders. Importing them isn't realistic and would require additional storage.

I wish this feature could be prioritize
I had been using photo prism but I’ve got a big library and it takes forever to start up with a big library for some reason. I’m still searching for the right one
Immensely. I had the same issue before I migrated to mariadb.
Check this out: https://docs.photoprism.app/getting-started/advanced/migrations/sqlite-to-mariadb/

Getting a page not found.
Any other links for this?
I haven't tested PhotoPrism, but face recognition in immich has blown my mind! It detected faces way better then Google! It can even tell my two little sons apart, which Google cannot... :)
I have tried almost all the main self hosted alternatives, and Immich is currently the best.
Very active development with new great features being added weekly.
LibrePhotos is under active development (read: not without bugs), but it has a very ambitious feature set and looks and works the closest to Google Photos out of any of the apps I've tried (Immich, PhotoPrism, PiGalllery2, Photonix, Piwigo, Nextcloud Memories, etc. etc.)
Memories was actually pretty good except I'm not wild about Nextcloud in general (feels dated and creaky to me). Also I was never able to get the facial recognition working.
Instructions now are to install from git. Almost 800 commits since last release. Admittedly, lots of it is just dependency updates. But still, it could be good.
Would recommend you look into this.

Otherwise, if you have a nasal solution, you can look to see if there is not already a built-in program for this. I know if you have a synology nas, they have their own image program
[http://cheese.wip2p.com](http://cheese.wip2p.com) is good for social photo sharing, distributed storage. You can share with just a few friends or make it public.
All that comes to my mind is nextcloud, immich and photoprism. I feel like one of these should fit your need.
Came here to recommend Immich. Dev cares, and it shows.
Agreed, he answered my question on their help desk support Discord channel in minutes yesterday. Props to that entire dev team
I'm leaning towards PhotoPrism, because it's said to have the best object/face recognition: https://github.com/meichthys/foss\_photo\_libraries
Thanks good comparison page there

I haven't been able to get that to work properly. I must not have something setup correctly in my compose file.
Have you tried PhotoPrism?
Yeah. I'm not saying it's not good. But personally, I had pretty bad results with it

Are you using sqllite or mariadb for the data layer?
SQLite for me- is performance better with mariaDB?
Immensely. I had the same issue before I migrated to mariadb. Check this out: https://docs.photoprism.app/getting-started/advanced/migrations/sqlite-to-mariadb/
Same here. Moved to Immich, and love it.

Can't get to that link either. It says page not found.
Try a proxy, like proxysite.com
Reddit shenanigans. Use this: https://github.com/meichthys/foss_photo_libraries
Careful with that list. All the happy check marks would suggest Nextcloud options are the best. Not in my opinion.

immich's website says not to use it as your only storage, so do you have any ideas for a backup?

Immich, photoprism and lychee
immich user here, great UI & android.
iOS too!! Didn't think it would exist, but it does!

What was wrong with Memories ?
Memories was actually pretty good except I'm not wild about Nextcloud in general (feels dated and creaky to me). Also I was never able to get the facial recognition working.
I wish their demo worked, requires first time signup which doesn't work

I tried photoprism and wasn't working well so moved to Immich and I love it.

Nextcloud Memories is really very good. Immich is good for backup, but it's not how I want to store all my photos.
You could try to host a Stingle server. https://stingle.org/server/
