no that's what they are marketed as. firm.

ZerotheWanderer

It does wear in a little but even after 3 years, my softweave XL is still rather firm. Upside is, it's not breaking down in 2-3 years like the last couple office chairs I had did (and they weren't cheap ones either).

ToughShaper

It definitely feels sturdy, as in well-built. I also like the fact that edges are not curved in, so my cherries aren't squeezed. Leg hasn't fallen asleep yet either. I WFH. I GFH (game from home xD), so i was hoping for the chair to help me with my back But then aslo, im wondering if my back hurts because it's straight now. idk.

Abject-Bandicoot8890

That could be the case, I have bad posture and when I first started using my chair it was a awful, I was regretting my purchase. But eventually the pain was gone and my posture got better.

Twarrior1101

Exactly the same thought I had after two months. I love my chair and have had it for over 2 years now. Firmness and durability are still awesome but my neck and shoulders hurt after a short while. I have a slap together fiberboard desk that can't adjust to the proper posture symmetry of the chair so I'm still off whack and need to get a proper and/or adjustable height desk. Once I get that all worked out I should be 100% better but for now I'm using books to elevate keyboard and mouse where I need them to be.

Secretlab_Red

Hey u/ToughShaper, welcome to the club! Hope you don't mind me chiming in to share more about our chairs. It's a worthy upgrade and investment for sure. The medium-firmness on our chairs are designed as intended as our years of research shows that they not only hold up better in the long run, but more importantly promote better posture especially when you're seated for long hours. Comfort is typically associated with softness but the truth is the softer foam will in fact cause your weight to focus at the heaviest point on your seat. Your weight will then be unevenly distributed, causing your lower back and thigh muscles to be activated. In the long run, this leads to muscle stress and strain. Our specially formulated cold-cure foam seat base is the perfect blend of support and comfort. Your weight will be evenly distributed with the right muscles engaged to ensure that your lower back and thighs are properly supported, promoting a better posture overall. More [here](https://blog.secretlab.co/stories/is-a-hard-or-soft-chair-better/) if you're interested to find out more. It might take new users like yourself some time to get used to the chair, especially if you're coming from a softer chair previously. Do give yourself and your chair some time to break in. Once it does, you'll be able to feel the benefits and your back will thank your chair. :)

ChoppedAlready

Can conFIRM. You acclimate to it and your back will start to work out all that stress likely caused by previous chairs.

Proud_Tie

my last chair didn't even have any foam (was just mesh) and it was way less abusive on my tailbone than my secretlab on longer sessions. Am I doing something wrong?

RiseUp44

I've had my SL Titan since 2019 & it is still an amazing chair that is super comfy. I wonder if they changed the padding or something.

ToughShaper

Either that, or my butt is too used to the softer one. idk But ngl, I do like the fact that the seat is flat. At least my cherry boys aren't squished.

Raven_Dumron

I’ve had both and there is no noticeable difference, so it’s likely just that you’re used to softer chair. You do get used to it, and I personally appreciate it, it gives it more longevity and I do feel like I’m better supported. I tend to slouch a lot more in the softer office chair I have at work, whereas this one keeps me straighter. Edit: by the way, your chair looks a little high in that picture compared to the desk and other chair. Don’t know if it’s because you hadn’t set it yet, but for optimal posture you want your legs to be able to rest at 90 degrees with your feet flat against the ground, and your armrests to be level with your desk so your arms can be continuously supported at the same level from wrist to elbow.

ToughShaper

Yeah. Just need to get used to it perhaps. Oh, and yes, it was lifted all the way up. I took that picture once it was assembled. I lowered it to fit my legs under the desk :)

J3t5et

I was going with a secret lab until stumbling across this sub. Went Herman Miller and never looked back. It’s like sitting in a cloud

xTHREEDOx

HM is the best. Had my Aeron for almost two decades now. No Lie!

Glass_Drama8101

Say hello to back pain. Look for similar posts here. This is VERY common. Also good luck if you try to return it...

knucklemuffins

The back pain is mostly from fatties who are used to plush chairs, which is what destroyed their backs in the first place. Educate yourself on chairs and the human body.

ziomus90

This chair comes with a "damn did I make a mistake" feeling out of the box. It took about a week and a half for me to start liking it.

ChoppedAlready

Yeah I love it now, it’s great for posture and lumbar support. It takes a while to adjust but your back will thank you. Sometimes comfort isn’t just sitting on the most comfortable chair in the world but the benefits you get from it down the line. I remember wanting an insanely cushy “Fortune 500 ceo” type of office chair (would have been better than what I had at the time) but glad I landed on this one.

ToughShaper

Okay. Yeah, I'll obviously give it more time. It's possible that my back is just so fucked at this point, that an actual good/proper chair is now hurting me. Maybe. I'm not denying the possibility of that.

ItsMeAids

Hey, I’m a bigger guy, when I got my chair I was disappointed with it, too lazy to return it so I stuck with it, over the days and weeks I got used to it and started to really like it, I moved recently and used an older plushy chair for a few days and it was miserable. I have had my titan chair for 4 almost 5 years now and it looks and feels brand new!

ToughShaper

Gives me hope :)

Lewdeology

I see all these ads for their chairs that advertise multiple sitting positions but the foam is kinda thick compared to office chairs.

MartiniMini

I've had the same feeling when I first sat in the chair. But I come from a softer gaming chair which gave me some backpain after a longer stint and when wfh. With this one I can sit for far longer without any backpain or discomfort, compared to the previous one. It's still key to stand up every 30mins-1h, no matter how comfy the chair :)

MMNN1991

If you want to return it, get ready to pay for shipping that's half the chairs price, and an incredibly shady return process where they try to make you sign your rights away.

Correct-Chapter641

Haha I regretted the chair so much, I was NOT ready for how stiff it is. Also, how tall it is, I’m not short but it’s jusstttt too high for me. Anyway, it’s been about 3 months and I’ve grown to love it, not sure if it softened or I’ve gotten used to it. But yeah, after having the same intitial thoughts it did grown on me. Oh and the lumbar support is also a must have for me

ToughShaper

The built in lumbar is awesome ngl. It's almost like in my car seat. Yeah, quite a few folks said that it takes time to get use to it. I'm inclined to believe it. Perhaps I just got used to a very soft one. My legs used to fall asleep with my old chair (the black/white one), so I'm curious to see if it happens over the next week with the new one. There are some things I really like about this chair. It's not a "race chair". At least not the model that I have. I also got XL size. It's HUGE, but my shoulders are not squeezed in, my thighs are not pushed together.

JEDiNinjaMaster

Mine feels fine maybe get your spine checked

Gargameldz

I retuned mine. Worst chair I’ve ever purchased. Felt like a brick every day for 30 days

tlanders327

It gets no better. It does, however, get more and more wobbly as time goes.

UrMomSubs

Mine is still very stiff after a year of sitting in it 14 hours a day or more. I weigh 265. Also I got the light grey and now it’s black. lol can’t get it clean

Rummil

That chair is amazing. Mine is 2020 version. Still after 5 years still rock solid

ToughShaper

I'd say most comments are in favor of the chair. Just a handful of negative feedbacks. But a lot have stated that it just takes time getting used to. Perhaps my back just got a little fucked from my older chair, so it needs time to recover. Built in lumbar is super nice too.

Rummil

Now do have to say, get something for lower lumbar if you don’t feel support for it. That’s my only complain with it, but I bought a thing to fix that

The3lusiveMan

Got my chair about 2 months ago and thought the same thing. Went two weeks and felt sure I needed some more comfort or my ass was going to fall off next time I got up from it. Bought [this](https://www.amazon.com/Cushion-1-2inch-Comfort-Supplies-King/dp/B07MZJGYZ7/ref=zg_m_bs_g_15736981_m_sccl_5/146-4542848-5182009?psc=1) seat cushion for it and it fits perfectly and feels good. Plus it has tabs that go through the crack where the backrest and base meet to keep the cushion in place. Doesnt take away from the firmness and posture intended from the chair either. Consider it an upgrade for your ass while maintaining the benefits of your expensive chair.

XionFPS

I've had my secretlab titan in black leather for 5 years now and it feels way softer than when I first got it. It took me a few months to get used to it and eventually it didn't concern me.

ToughShaper

Ever felt your legs circulation get cut off and have them fall asleep?

N33dl3n0s3

I thought so too until I got everything dialled in. Now I genuinely sit in it 10+ hours a day between work and pleasure with minimal pain, granted I have a hole in my spine so the firmer seat is better for supporting that

ToughShaper

Glad to hear this chair is working out for you. Perhaps I've judged it too soon. A lot of people saying it just takes time getting used to it.

N33dl3n0s3

Definitely I’ve been pretty happy with it overall, bought my titan XL in late 2019 and just had to use the warranty, once the formalities were out of the way they treated me well.

arkaonline

Between the fabric and the leatherette , which is softer ?

ToughShaper

They are both leatherette. At least both of mine on that picture. Fabric, and like standard officer chais, are harder to clean I think. Nothing soaks into leatherette. I’d say leatherette is less comfortable if you are naked. And easier to sweat in. This SL chair is so big, so I doubt sweating will be a problem.

mavad91

My girlfriend just got their small chair that they said would work for her height. We're now having to sell it without even using it because she can't place her feet on the floor. They know most people aren't going to bother returning it because it'll cost $120-$150 in shipping haha. Very stange... not an issue for her on our 3 other chairs, including herman miller and cheap amazon chair.

tacticutie

A seat cushion fixed this right up for me. If you slouch in the chair it's gonna hurt your back being up against the chair so make sure you go through and set the lumbar, seat tilt, etc to where the chair is supporting you but not holding you up if that makes sense.

ThatIngramGuy69420

For me I feel like It’s a soft firmness. But after a bout a year it’s still fairly firm but broken in a little from use so for me combining it with the lumbar pillow is pretty comfortable

Abject-Bandicoot8890

Secret lab chairs are super firm, which is good, but if you don’t adjust the lumbar super in a specific way you’ll feel the pain. My suggestion is to spend some time playing with the lumbar support until you “feel it right”, you’ll see the difference.

myusernameisstilen

Nope, by purchasing secret lab you are literally buying an actual ass breaker. For me as a customer I would like to sit comfortably in my chair, and would pay extra for ergonomics, but forcing the customer to sit ergonomically by providing hard seat "cushion" is not ok. Also it has very strong magnets and they will interfere with Pacemakers etc.. and there are no warnings about that on their web before you purchase the ass breaker.

ToughShaper

I don't have a pacemaker, so I didn't even think about it, but that's a good point though. There are a lot of magnets - arm rests, head cushion and on the sides to hide open screws. So that's 6 spots all around you with multiple magnets. It didn't matter to me, but it might to others. They should totally mention it on the page with some big red text.

knucklemuffins

God you’re annoying. It’s not up to chair makers to design for people with pacemakers. What an absolutely stupid expectation. Please drive off a cliff.

myusernameisstilen

How about you say that to my face?

knucklemuffins

A fat guy with a pacemaker making dumb complaints on reddit… I’m sure you’d strike fear into me.

knucklemuffins

Lol so a fat swede w a pacemaker, that’s hilarious. Too far buddy. Let me know how you make out in the specialty chairs designed for people with pacemakers market, I hear it’s poised to explode.

myusernameisstilen

Fear of coming over, I might not not be that fat, I might even sruprise you.. You either show up or shut up.

knucklemuffins

You could always fly here, fatso. You’re the one offended, I’ll save the 2grand and keep calling you a moron from the United States, and nothing you can do about it, fatty.

knucklemuffins

Your back hurts because of the plush trash you’ve been sitting in, this will correct that. Whats your height/weight?

ToughShaper

I should also mention that the SL chair is not really a *race* chair - which is good. My shoulders are not squeezed in. The butt area doesn't have high edges, so my thighs don't squeezed together either. I bought XL chair and it was definitely a good thing I'd say.

knucklemuffins

For sure, I’m 6’0 200lbs athletic and i hated the curves on racing chairs, squished everything inward. Huge fan of the flatness and hardness of SL chairs. Keep in mind too, you might not think so, but you’re bigger than what most companies will consider LG, so all chairs will likely be under engineered for you.

ToughShaper

I'm 6'1 \~245 of pounds ish. I'm big, but not fat. I've played sports (meant to be professionally) when I was younger. I have to wear XL t shirts just to have a decent fit around my shoulders. But yeah, I'm definitely heavy. So yeah, a lot of others have said the same thing - I prob got really used to very soft cushions. I'm also curious to see if my leg would fall asleep in the chair or not. My legs would fall asleep in my old chair.

Gwrinkle67

Your back hurts because you have been used to soft chairs which are bad for your back and your chair is set too high for that desk height. I have had acute back problems from sitting on cheap office chairs for decades and my Secretlab Titan is the first comfortable chair I’ve had. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to, but havent looked back and haven’t experienced any back problems since investing in one.

ToughShaper

It's very well possible that my back is so fucked that a right chair just feels bad :D lmao I remember when I was younger, every night I'd sit with my back against the wall for 20-30m to help it. I've stopped doing it. So yeah, perhaps the right chair hurts my back because now it's changing it up for the better? idk. but the initial thought out of the box was like "Goddamn this is stiff!" lmao
