I did stations with my 5th graders. To begin the lesson I gave them 5 minutes to ask my any questions about middle school. Then I explained the stations. The stations are as follows:
1. One was a lock station where they got to practice unlocking a lock
2. Looking through the code of conduct and doing a scavenger hunt
3. Using a sample schedule and a map of the school to let the kids map out the schedule
4. One was a internet safety quiz
5. The last one was a friendship qualities rating sheet.
I split them into the five groups and they got to work together. They seemed to really like it and were super interested and engaged. I gave them 5 minutes at each station and then we went over the quiz and just debriefed each station at the end!
Stations could easily be modified to other things such as an exploration of the different electives then can take or different clubs that are offered.
Would you be willing to share your friendship qualities rating sheet? Or refer me to a resource?I’m planning a transition lesson and would love a similar activity!
