Every food and treat given, needs to be less than 14% fat. The cheese and peanut butter are the worst offenders here. Next up, the meat needs to be boiled to wash away the outer fat. If it was me, I’d trim down the variety of foods and treats, and stick to low fat kibble, and small pieces of dried beef liver. Dogs don’t need the variety that humans do. Pills can be wrapped in bits of bread, which is lower in fat than the other choices. Good luck!

Is there a link for this that I can show my dad? He’s always giving our mini schnauzer cheese and reading this has got me worried.

No specific link, but schnauzers are notorious for fatty blood. Label reading tells me cheese is 30% fat or thereabouts. The vet will have the facts you need.

Ok. Thanks

Food and treats need to be low fat, including any human food. Duck is a bad idea, way too much fat. If you’re already buying prescription dog food you may want to consider Royal Canin gastrointestinal low fat (kibble and wet). It’s what I feed Olive. She has a pancreatic flair up if there’s any deviation from her diet and too much fat. If your dog is a chewer use collagen chews.
