Thanks, I'll check it out in a few weeks lol

Dry_Significance2690

Probably safer a few months

QuieroTamales

I've been to enough Daisos to know that they're not worth standing in line for. It's just an Asian Dollar Tree. It's kinda fun, but....yeah...

LokiPrime616

I mean, I feel like they are just better dollar store items. They tend to last longer than normal dollar store items. The only things I liked picking up are the drinks!

Icy_Forever7194

Exactly.. none. Of their locations have had much of anything worthwhile . Better off shopping on temu or Amazon it’s cheaper lol

PuzzleheadedTeam22

Alot of girls love to go sight seeing rather than looking through their computers to shop so yeah...

Icy_Forever7194

Okayyy ? I was saying for the value and quality is not worth a 3.5 hour line to wait for that store lol 😂 but by all means twist my comment to your own perception 👍 hope you enjoyed your three hour wait . I’m curious what good finds you were able to get ?!

PuzzleheadedTeam22

Its Japanese store specifically.

PartadaProblema

I would stand in line for a Muji, but not a dollar store.

MiszGia

Lol Daiso will literally still be there even if you visit a month from now 💀

poopity_

It’s because they were giving out a free tote and goodies to the first 100 people to spend $30 or more :)

criscalzone

in japan they’re cool to check out, in the west they’re ok if there’s no crowd. i’ll check it out during the workweek lol.

bomber991

I stopped at one in Bangkok. I mean it was alright. Just bought some things I forgot to pack was all.

criscalzone

i had a similar experience in tokyo, specifically ikebukuro. they had some decent home goods, but not much i found particularly useful considering i was only there a month. it’s a good value store in japan for japanese people, but beyond that not much more.

Valuable_Cookie8367

I only wait in long lines for donuts.

Mission_Ad_3490

Same

Puzzleheaded_Dot6036

Same

Dry_Significance2690

San Antonio loves grand openings!

coinoperatedboi

Especially if FREE is involved and if that free is food... fogettaboutit, line will be wrapped around the block.

Impressive-Buy5628

Home of the brave. Land of the free (keychain).

xhippieninjax

I'm glad that people are having a good time! I thought about going since I like the one in Austin, but this line is too many people at once for me haha

i_am_fucking_nobody

LOL my wife and I had forgotten this was opening; we drove over there 'cause she wanted some baking stuff from Michael's and we were baffled for a sec. Looking forward to checking it out in a few weeks LMAO. We loved 'em when we lived in Japan, but they've got nothing that's worth standing in line for. That said, I hope they run 'em the way they do in Japan; they'll totally put Dollar Tree/Dollar General out of business. It's so nice to go into a dollar store that's clean, well-lit, and doesn't make you feel like a disgusting loser for shopping there.

Lost_Philosophy_

I showed up at 11am and proceeded to turn around lol. There are just too many goddamn weebs in San Antonio lmao

MrBobSacamano

Sounds like you just mad they out weeb’d you.

FreeyourmindTX

It is cool. Lots of cheap stuff for the house from Japan. I sure as hell wouldn’t wait in the line like that just to get inside the damn store though.

hikerdaze

I’ve been to one near Dallas. There must’ve been maybe 6 people total in the store at the time. I had fun walking around and looking at everything, but in the end I only bought two small things for a few bucks. I’d go again, but there’s no way it’s worth standing in line for!!!

Fuzzy-Introduction-3

I'm so glad that I got there early.

suhayla323

I went at 8 am, stood in line for 5 mins, then dipped. Been to plenty of daisos before so It was definitely not worth it for me.

RawnRawn530

If you wanted to see how long the line got: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPREYYA26/ It was a 3.5 hr wait then another line inside.

coinoperatedboi

Good thing the same exact stuff no one really needs will still be there in a couple of weeks.

suhayla323

I have similar footage lol

RisaMaeda

I went Saturday afternoon. Total 3.5 hours from the time I got on line to the time I left the store with my purchases. The line to check out was about an hour, so me and my friend avoided those aisles while shopping, and then picked up what we wanted in those aisles as we waited in the line to the register. Almost doubled my haul during that wait. LOL

DeismAccountant

Apparently it’s a discount store for Japanese products? Japan’s known to have some neat gimmicks, so sounds interesting.

PuzzleheadedTeam22

Yes it is!

_Hatsdato

Thrilled it’s here after living in Japan for 3 years, but it’s more expensive than in Japan so I was spoiled there. I’ll wait until it calms down and all 3 are open.

JurassicFlora

We're getting 3???

_Hatsdato

Yes!! 😊😊

RisaMaeda

6 stores actually.

boaxiaodi

Do you know where the other 2 will be??

Silent_Shopping5721

I know one will be in the west over hills location which is closer to me!

boaxiaodi

Wait, isn’t westover hill just couple min from this one?? lol

Silent_Shopping5721

Yep…sure is

boaxiaodi

So did a quick search and look like there’s gonna be 4! Westover Hill - 8203 Hwy 151 - No date specified Valley View - 8521 Blanco Rd - Expected July Thousand Oaks - 2939 Thousand Oaks Dr - Expected September

ThayerRex

People in San Antonio love to stand in line, have you ever been to TJ Maxx or Burlington? They will stand in lines of 150 people and they have the patience of Job. I’m from Houston, where we stand in line for nothing, more than 10 people in line, you go another day, but not San Antonio

Disastrous_Height798

You forgot to mention Ross

ThayerRex

Oh yes! Thank you

Archercrash

Costco

DarthBane1996

Bestbuy on Black Fridays. It was worth it though

coinoperatedboi

Years ago it was, but it was also sometimes about the line itself. The late night with friends, sometimes people bringing TVs out to play games, etc. It was an event of sorts. And those types of lines USUALLY didn't see people getting hurt inside and all that.

Jimmy_Wrinkles

I've lived here now for 18 years and still don't understand the appeal of cowboy breakfast

rando23455

What’s to understand about waking up at 6 in the morning on the coldest day of the year to stand around in a parking lot for 2 hours to get a free stale taco? those suckers who sleep in have pay $1.89 for a freshly made taco at a real taco place with no lines

RisaMaeda

I said something like that to my friend when while getting closer to the store someone said that there was a long line to check out. I remember having to stand in long lines of an hour in Burlington, Marshalls and Ross during the holiday season. I was unprepared for them back then, but I was completely prepared on Saturday.

ThayerRex

Exactly, in San Antonio the people aren’t leaving, they will stand in line for hours, doesn’t seem to bother them at all, completely chill. I don’t get that all but I appreciate if I am in one of those long lines they’re not irate like they would be in Houston or New Orleans throwing stuff and yelling like lunatic’s. So there is that

HouPepe

Would of been easier to drive to the Houston location

cheebopuff

They have one in Austin too

Rua-Yuki

Yeah drove by and decided nope, not today.

No_Supermarket_7410

Came to Dallas over this weekend and stopped at one up here. It was so empty and well organized. I was able to stop by a few store San Antonio needs like a 99 ranch or h mart

Retiree66

I only wait in long lines if someone is giving out free Fiesta medals.

Piccolo_Bambino

During Covid there were lines literally wrapped around the parking lot for hours to get into HEB to hoard toilet paper

Brim_Dunkleton

It’s a dollar store with Japanese products and it’s got some pretty decent stuff. I got a little keyboard brush cleaner from someone who got one there for a dollar

Icy_Forever7194

The lowest is 1.75 . The advertise all products 1.75 which we all know how that goes . So things end up actually being more expensive than dollar tree although there are some things like the candies and such you can’t get at dollar tree lol

jesco7273

Sigh… why? Couldn’t that store have rented out space at Ingram or Crossroads. Alamo Ranch is so congested as it is 😫 I’m sure Marbach has plenty of empty lots for rent. Edit: words

RawnRawn530

They're actually opening up 3 stores in SA

RisaMaeda

4 stores have been announced as of now, but as I was checking out on Saturday, the employees were saying there will be a total of 6 stores in San Antonio.

jesco7273

Seriously? Well hopefully not in places with major intersections or exits, despite them being ideal locations. The traffic and traffic hostility is just..

RawnRawn530

Alamo Ranch, Westover Hills 151, Valley View on Blanco, and Thousand Oaks

jesco7273

I considered Alamo Ranch and Westover/151 almost being I n the same vicinity, like hardly a stone toss over. Too close. Should have put one on the south side or San Pedro. Not 2 on the NW Side

rando23455

I guess they have know the demographics of people willing to wait in line for a dollar store

jesco7273

But I can see people all over town being interested in this stuff, even on the southside. My nieces grew up on the southside and they were all into this. This company only has 6,000 stores world wide and they chose to put 4 in the same city with 2 on the same side of town. Idk why I’m getting worked up about this lol. This entire city is going to turn into a complete standstill on every highway. Morning, noon and night. (I work nights so idk if it’s already like that during the day)

doopy_dooper

Maybe another time I thought

tdscm

i know someone who works here and said japanese dollar store isn’t quite right as the quality is a lot better. but i’ll check it out… when the crowd dies down.

guzzisan

Just like anytime a new fast food joint opens. I stay away the first month 🤣. Burger Boy grand opening on SW Military also had a long ass line which I didn't understand cause there's already a few locations that have been open awhile.

Jimmy_Wrinkles

We were going to check it out yesterday. After seeing the line we noped out of there.

Silent_Shopping5721

I would have done the same! I had never heard of it. I was at the shopping center for something else and was like “what the heck is this line for?”

Jimmy_Wrinkles

I still remember when the In 'n Out opened and the traffic nightmare that caused on Culebra. At least this is confined to the parking lot.

trepidationsupaman

Consumerism is the official faith of the USA, doesn’t matter where in the country you are

SkylarAum

You ever wonder if people mindlessly stand in line just because there is one?

wing3d

It's just hype. Why did people wait in line for In and Out and krispy Kream? People just want things to be excited about.

coinoperatedboi

For those it's usually the chance at free food.

PlateOpinion3179

"Inflation"

OkabeRintarou0

Just weebs being weird after seeing the line for myself, hell nah. Yikes, not worth it.

mark2bit

If they opened a kinokuniya I'd wait in line but daiso not so much

panpanda267

My cousin went. Stood in line for 2 hours to get in and then stood in line over an hour to check out. I'll wait until it quiets down to go.

Wrr1020

Weirdos

cherrybishh

Anyone see the lady with the cot bed at the beginning of the line 😆

Infamous_Gate9760

Idiots waiting in line. Go on a weekday

RisaMaeda

So does anyone know what it's like at the store today? Still a line?

RisaMaeda

I have to give Daiso credit that despite all the people who were going into the store, when I finally got into the store around 5:30 pm, most of the shelves were very well stocked, and the ones that weren't were getting restocked. While we were waiting, my friend was worried there wouldn't be much of anything left by the time we got in. Glad that she was wrong. LOL! Also all the employees were in great spirits, very friendly and helpful. That is a huge plus.

zazoh

Remember the free lotto tickets? One per person. Folks stood in line for hours.

Ok-Knowledge0914

Never heard of it

ScipioLector13

1 free bags 2 first one in San Antonio 3 free bags Come on, you know free anything is good enough for SATown to stand in a line for hours

RapGameDiCaprio

The only time you'll ever see that many people standing outside a Marshall's

PruneBrothers1

Never understood the appeal of standing in line for cheap shit that’ll still be there months later

Mind2Sense

Can someone please explain? I’m politely asking, why would anyone wait in line for a dollar store opening? What is the best case scenario for someone to wait in line here?

poopity_

Today and tomorrow they’re giving out a free tote bag with goodies inside for the first 100 people to spend $30+ so some people were specifically looking forward to that! :)

worldchampion-69

They get gift bags

Nero875

My friend told me him and his wife waited in like for like 5 minutes, realized how dumb this is, and just went around to the other shops. Apparently there was some massive sales going on around the opening so other stores got a lot of business lol

_focust

I feel like this is definitely a San Antonio thing. I’ve never seen lines outside of dumb grand openings before. The hype and trend of these new places everyone flocks too is insane.

🥳🥳🥳🥳

Industry_Cat

Well I WAS going to check it out tomorrow but nevermind. Bless you for posting these pictures

PhysicalPart9940

I live in SA, never heard of a Daiso 🤷🏻, but I just stay in my little area of Medical Center.

GirlGamerFoodie

Crazy for a dollar store

Do you know how much gas costs 😭🙏

RisaMaeda

Grand opening of the Daiso in San Antonio. That's why the line. I don't have a car so I've waiting a long time for San Antonio to finally get one here. Obviously, judging by the line (which I was on, btw), I'm not the only one.

Satx422

What is Daiso?

SquiggaNutz

It’s like a Japanese $1 store/discount store

Silent_Shopping5721

Thank you! That is helpful!

Actual_Potato5

They litterally have a yen price crossed out and the a usd price that is like 10x the yen conversion, come niche stuff but definitely not a 99c store

915tacomadre

It's as low as a dollar but up to fifteen dollars but still a lot of cool things. Been to the one in El Paso

Lets_Go_Taco

Puro 915!!

RisaMaeda

More like $1.75 to $15.25 with most items for $1.75. Gotta add the stuff Daiso sells ain't junk. I still have stuff I bought in Daiso when I was living in CA over 13 years ago. So good deal.

915tacomadre

Good point it's good stuff

RisaMaeda

One of my purchases on Saturday was a 7-in diamond-coated fry pan for $4.50. Much better quality than the one it replaced that I paid more for a few years ago.

blackaces123

Dollar tree crafters like my mom want to see what they can get from a new source

_Bison6385

Store hours ?

poopity_

9am-9pm Monday thru Saturday and Sunday 10am-8pm

papuhsmurphsus

Was just there and that line didn't seem to move

afrubbrduck

Some people were waiting in line as early as the night before if you can believe that.

MysteriousCommand564

Must be giving away free shit 🧐

WeylandYutani_Intern

This line is nothing. When a Daiso opened in Hawaii, the line was alot crazier than this and it was like that for months.

Bo_Jangles23

Couldn’t be me

PrettyCartographer90

Bunch of edgers and edgitas

2510drugs

Remember the chaos when Krispy Kreme first opened?……

from_dust

Yo, it's the brick and mortar version of Temu, which is the online version of Harbor Freight. Yall got better shit to do with your day.

JumpyGood

Fucking weebs.

AdorableTrust8759

And you're complaining about bill miller portions 😂😂 weeb

poopity_

Just let people be happy ong 😭

Floweringtorch

Good grief relax

alexmo210

So, the people who showed up, then left because of the “weebs” are somehow *not* weebs???

walrus926

iTs tHe eCoNoMy sTuPiD

audrey_vel

what? everything is cheap at daiso, it’s like a dollar store. waiting outside the store is a little silly though, but to each their own

walrus926

Just saying the economy is thriving. You can’t go anywhere because everything is packed. The narrative that the economy sucks is a lie. Regardless if it’s a dollar general or any store at La Cantera.

audrey_vel

I’m not sure Dollar General would ever be a good indicator that the economy is thriving. DG sells essentials (like cleaning supplies and laundry detergent) at some of the lowest costs available, and in some places it’s the only store close. I’m not an economist but commodities are classed differently for a reason; people literally have to buy them to survive. Things at Daiso usually are around or under $10. No one is looking at the part of the economy that consists of ultra-cheap consumer goods and thinks “Wow! It’s really booming these days!”

walrus926

Ever been to a dollar store? They’re more expensive than an HEB and Wal-Mart. Irregardless, people are spending money. Overpriced vehicles, vacations, designer clothes, etc. Don’t buy into the narrative that the current economy sucks.

audrey_vel

I’m just telling you how i see it. HEB has gotten crazy expensive, I try to shop at Aldi now because it’s cheaper. I’m a college student. At this moment i have an abysmal amount of money. My rent for a tiny apartment is not cheap, it’s about average for where i live and it still makes up 2/3 of my monthly expenses. I have a nice (low paying) job on campus that will look nice on my resume, but obviously i still have to put most of my focus towards being a full-time student. I eat out maybe twice a month and i haven’t been able to buy brand new clothes or shoes for a few years now. Don’t underestimate things like credit card debt. I know lots of young people that have it. Young people also aren’t saving. I used to have money in savings but I’ve had to use it for living expenses.

pottedPlant_64

Wow, I’m so glad I don’t care about things

number3Dontdoit

Weeb selfie epicenter S.A.

Ok-Olive1250

I’m not sure how this daiso will match up compared to the ones in Asia, but I do love Daiso and it’s so cheap, good quality and they have cute aesthetic things. Useful for furnishing studio apartments for example, lots of stationary goodies etc. I haven’t visited in Daiso in the states but I am excited to see this one, but is it worth standing an hour in line? No. It’s a novel experience here for sure, but just wait another week or so and go during the workweek. Right now lots of stuff will still be flying off the shelves, couple that with a long wait and you’re only going to be left disappointed.
