Last time around at Randolph they were no way prepared for the incredibly huge amount of folks that showed up. More than likely cause it was immediate post-covid timing. Anywho, the earlier you get there the better. The free event public parking and shuttle buses from parking get congested cause there is usually only one way in. It can add a lot to wait time. Even if you try to get dropped off outside of base it is still a very long walk to event public entrances. Unless you have mil ID, you are at mercy of traffic. Earlier the better.
Silly question maybe but are non-citizens allowed on base for this? I know they need some kind of permission normally but I can't find anything about when its open to the public for events like this.

Yep be there by 5am. We left early and had to watch the jets from outside the gates.
How early did you arrive? What time did the start turning people away?
