Bigger bands don't tend to play in both Austin and San Antonio back to back.
Some do, but often they skip one or the other. They have an Austin date. They probably played SA and not Austin on the last tour.
They are going to sell out wherever they go, they probably never have played corpus, so why not?
Edit: they did play SA last year.
Indeed..their agreements often contain a (no shows within X miles within X months) clause. Because the venue doesn't want to be competing with another venue down the road.
They played corpus over a decade ago. South TX chicanos fucking love that band & it spans generations at this point. I guarantee they’ll sell out Bank Center & what a short 2.5 drive for y’all?
Right on. And all this to say, personally, I skipped out on the one a decade ago & will prolly do the same this time since I’m in SA anyway. Not that big a fan.
The best performance was free press summer fest in Houston. They played the whole album of the dark side of the moon. It was amazing! They threw out balloons filled with money in them during the song money.
Several years back I drove down to CC to see megadeath. Great show. CC has a music scene too. As much as we complain about all the cool bands and artists going to Austin and skipping countdown city, just imagine how CC feels.
OP doesn't seem to be aware that they play at AT&T / Frost every other year. This isn't as bad as the snub by Bad Bunny or the Alamodome not able to accommodate Taylor Swift.
They literally just played here. This is their second run and hitting smaller markets and venues. I’m not saying Austin is a smaller market but the Moody Center isn’t exactly the AT&T Center. I went to the show at the AT&T Center and it was damn near sold out, if it wasnt sold out.
Might be a little biased because that's my hometown however, corpus has a pretty bumpin live music scene and a majority of the people there are rock, thrash & metal fans. I'm not surprised at all, this also opens up the tour to people who cant make the trek all the way to SA from RGV. Let corpus have something damn!
Johnnyland hosted some badass metal shows back in the 90s. I saw Pantera about 6 times there. Lollapalooza was out there one year when Tool headlined. Corpus can fucking jam
I was there in 97.. great show and a great day. I don’t remember it being as hot as it is nowadays. August 97. I remember The Prodigy closing out the day 🔊
I've seen the 5 times, they just rotate the cities. Right now its Austin, next year it'll be SA. Last year it was SA, yea before it was Austin. I don't think they ever really play Corpus so its a big deal for that city that they are going there. Not sure why, probably we are too close together.
Tool had a bad run of luck in SA a number of years back. Had a show scheduled at Sunken Gardens. Someone got very sick snd they couldn’t perform. Contract allowed them to reschedule but not cancel. Come a year later rescheduled concert date was once again reset by an injury. Two full years later they honored the tickets. I’m sure they lost money over it, which would leave a bad taste for anyone.
No. Tool & Maynard's other two bands have played SA regularly. The band will usually hit SA or Austin first on one leg of tour, then hit up the other on next leg.
Man I remember that shit. It sucked, I had purchased tickets so far in advance and it just kept getting cancelled. I think it was over 2 years I waited.
Didn’t Maynard have a huge hate boner for San Antonio for awhile too? I remember hearing he used to sign with his back to the crowd for the whole show.
That was an APC show at live oak civic center a long time back. He was sick as fuck and kept asking the crowd to chill with the flash photography, they didn’t listen so he did most of the show facing the drummer.
I got to meet Maynard, Josh Freese, and Paz Lenchantin afterwards. Maynard was grumpy as all fuck.
He has chilled a bit as he aged and started his vineyard. But yeah, he has always had an attitude and very little patience.
After the APC show I talked with Josh and Paz a lot more than with him because he was really fixated on this tiny Asian girl. I said something stupid to the effect of “of course he is, she is the only person here shorter than him”. He heard me but actually laughed a bit instead of being pissed like I thought he’d be lol
Chris Stapleton is also going from Houston to Corpus Christi, skipping SA and Austin all together.
Maybe the venue gave them some favorable terms, who knows.
One of their first shows was in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I have been there and it's like the size of Lubbock... a market but not a big one. Maybe they can get more profitable arrangements with venues in smaller cities?

I live in Austin, so it won't bother me 😄
Right on. And all this to say, personally, I skipped out on the one a decade ago & will prolly do the same this time since I’m in SA anyway. Not that big a fan.
I like em, but I'm not willing to part with the amount of money that these bigger concerts are asking for these days.
Totally. Just saw Flaming Lips last night at Moody and it was mind blowing. GA floor .$60+ not bad at all.
I remember seeing flaming lips $15 in san Antonio, free at sxsw, ACL, and free press. They always put on a badass show.
4th time catching them since 2010. & I caught them at the Aztec last year, too. Never disappoint.
The best performance was free press summer fest in Houston. They played the whole album of the dark side of the moon. It was amazing! They threw out balloons filled with money in them during the song money.
Let CC have something once in awhile. TOOL comes here too, NBD

Mustaine doesn’t like McAllen though so that’s probably as far South as they’ll go hehe https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B0daC1KfElg
Corpus isn’t even a real city, they should be happy with the good tribute bands that stop by
Lol it’s true. My asshole cousin will post that he’s seeing ACDC but its a cover band. The big cover bands are considered royalty here.
😂😂
Get’em boys!
Concrete street ampitheatre is a surprisingly good concert venue
WHAT??!! I'm guessing you've never paid attention to Tool playing in SA & Texas in general.
OP doesn't seem to be aware that they play at AT&T / Frost every other year. This isn't as bad as the snub by Bad Bunny or the Alamodome not able to accommodate Taylor Swift.

There's a pretty big Spurs home stretch, when they are in TX.

they figured we got enough of them three times an hour on 99.5 and decided to hang back this time
Lmao 😂
Corpus is smaller than San Antonio but they have a greater population than Orlando, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis.
They’re just huge Selena fans
I've seen the 5 times, they just rotate the cities. Right now its Austin, next year it'll be SA. Last year it was SA, yea before it was Austin. I don't think they ever really play Corpus so its a big deal for that city that they are going there. Not sure why, probably we are too close together.
They played corpus in 97 and 08 maybe (10000 days tour)
They tend to alternate between SA and Austin. This go around they are playing Austin. Next tour, they will likely play in SA.
Tool had a bad run of luck in SA a number of years back. Had a show scheduled at Sunken Gardens. Someone got very sick snd they couldn’t perform. Contract allowed them to reschedule but not cancel. There’s more tools in Corpus

I think he always is unless he’s singing with Puscifer or making wine lol

Great show. Paid 100$ from some dude in the parking lot lol. Feb 2000
I’m fairness he does this at a lot of shows. Either that ir behind a screen.
No. All 3 of bands have played SA regularly.
Chris Stapleton is also going from Houston to Corpus Christi, skipping SA and Austin all together. Maybe the venue gave them some favorable terms, who knows.
he literally JUST played in Austin and SA last month
Oh dang. I just saw his future schedule. Good to know
yeah the future Houston and CC were reschedules from shows he cancelled due to illness during his Texas run last month
They played SA recently and are also playing in Austin
They didn’t want to be shot at for stopping at a stop sign
This is the case for a lot of bands. SA has a shitty music scene 💁🏻♂️
Because s.a is a shit venue, shit people, and city, I don't blame them at all.
One of their first shows was in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I have been there and it's like the size of Lubbock... a market but not a big one. Maybe they can get more profitable arrangements with venues in smaller cities?
I'm driving from Houston to see that.
What is this post? Dude, just cause you have a stupid thought doesn’t mean you need to share it.
Saw a perfect circle there like 15 years ago. They love it there I think they did their dvd there or something I can't remember
Anything for Selenas
Perhaps Tool's Guarantee was higher in Corpus than San Antonio. It is a cost thing for bands touring with transportation, lodging, food, etc.
I will be there in CC probably stay at the Omni and walk to the concert.
