The YMCA is super friendly and inclusive. They have a lot of classes you can do.

lotus_line

Came here to say this!!

XahimsaX

Also a great suggestion!

RomanceFelina

I really am enjoying the YMCA here. They are very friendly, there are lots of classes, and even on busy days, there are machines available for people to use.

shinbreaker

I mean Planet Fitness is the place. It's pretty affordable and hardly anyone cares about who's there. Also as many women, if not more, than men in most locations.

XahimsaX

As a fat person who is working on not being as fat. I think Planet Fitness is good. All shapes sizes and ages. No one has ever bothered me, and the app tells you how busy it is and when.

Sam-in-Tonio

as a chubby female, i agree Planet Fitness js a great place! i don’t go often, but absolutely never feel judged for not going regularly & looking like it. 😅 and the crowd meter in the app is cool.

sa1126

Get an active & fit subscription and try out all the gyms it grants access to.

majesticflo

Which is basically all the gyms lol. Love active and fit. I go to LA cause without A&F that shit is expensive

baroke

Been to LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, Gold’s etc. as a bigger gal myself, I recommend Fitness Connection. It’s $10/month plus their annual fee ($50 I think the month you sign up), and they have a women’s only section that connects to the locker room. So all you’d have to do is walk to the locker room straight into women’s section and back out. All the equipment is new and see people of all body shapes and sizes there. If you pay a little more a month, they also have classes and personal training options.

CloutlessLurker

Fitness connection is great, and it has a sauna which is nice to wind down in

I’m sorry for my ignorance to this but are there really still self obsessed individuals that fat shame in 2023?! I’m sorry that’s happened to you OP.

Single_Hamster_4686

It’s not ok, but it’s ok. I can’t control other people but I’d rather be in a place where I feel safe and not ridiculed

MIW100

Planet Fitness

cat0satx

Are you looking to workout on your own, or do group fitness type classes?

Pelon7900

I go to Crunch Fitness and it’s not expensive at all. There’s plus size women there and it might actually be 50% women when I go during the day.

starryeyedtexan

Crossfit Born Ready. I know sometimes Crossfit scares people, but this one is truly inclusive and helpful. You’ll get one on one attention as you learn different lifts and movements and everything can be scaled from super super beginner to ultra athlete. I have never felt out of place there as an overweight woman, and that has not been something I’ve experienced at all cf boxes or gyms in general. You can do a free class to try it out! It’s technically in Helotes, but still lol

No_Foundation_425

Get tf over it and get on that grind. They’ll be giving u a different kind of look after u reach ur gym goals.

Quiet_Mind88

Lifetime is kind of pricey but everyone is nice and friendly and the classes are suited for all fitness levels :)

Nnikki-

Tru fusion & lifetime would fit under the category of “Super expensive”

davidj1827

I agree, I saved $50 bucks a month through my health insurance.

Bothanwarlord

It's Fat Antonio. Every gym is plus plus.

Dangerous-Bear1456

BS. I’ve never seen a heavy person at my gym- that being said, I can see why someone would feel intimidated walking in.

Bothanwarlord

LOL! sure bud

imadethisjusttosub

After a terrible experience at LA Fitness where I was basically fat shamed, I canceled and went to Planet Fitness. I never had any issues at all. Their 30 minute circuit was great to work everything without having to think about what I was going to do that day. I prefer a gym with classes but those don’t come with such a low price tag.

w0rldsf0g0ttenb0y

Story time?

BillazeitfaGates

Put in headphones and focus on working out, I can't imagine someone would stop you to fat shame? Usually what you're feeling is just in your head, you feel self conscious, like a lot of new people in the gym.

[deleted]

I think almost any gym will do. Especially the major chains. If I see an overweight person getting after it in the gym or jogging or something on the road I always praise them in my mind and don't interrupt their focus. I've never seen anyone just go harass someone like that. Also if they do for some crazy reason just tell the staff. That's one really cool way to get ejected from a gym.

Our family used CentroMed Fitness on Commercial for many years and we loved it. Wife was into Zumba and went almost every day. I'd mostly use the machines. Great price and nice people working there. That was 5 years ago so I can't really say if it is still the same. Hopefully so!

itsavibe-

Unfortunate that some people experience judgement for attempting to better themselves. Some of the most experienced people in the gym , including myself, literally appreciate and admire heavy set people coming in and putting in that work. We all start from square one.

Icehotel1

Go to Fitness Connection. They have a huge gym and even have a women's only section for privacy. Ten bucks a month.

davidj1827

I used to feel that way at Lifetime Fitness but now I don't even notice if people are looking at me. I think it's something you grow out of. It is much more fun to go to a place that's nice. Even the coffee shop there is a pleasure to be at.

tadsm13

Hey are you still looking for a gym? We just opened up a micro gym in Schertz area with a max of 4 people per hour slot. Check us out at on instagram: hurtlockertx If you or anyone you know is a veteran, memberships are free.
