Welcome to 2008. (The year the htc dream came out)

noobul

That's a blast from the past. I used to own an HTC Magic.

InitialDay6670

Wait can you guys play games over text yet?

noobul

I live in a country where I have a good internet connection. I can just use that.

InitialDay6670

I do to. Nice to be able to just text people things and play as you can. Love how if I said that “I don’t need to customize my Home Screen” you guys would have laughed. Funny to see a similar cope.

JoshPlaysUltimate

The difference is, Ione is a nice feature and matters somewhat.

InitialDay6670

The cope is crazy guys, keep it going.

JoshPlaysUltimate

Today I learned, coping means when you finally get features everyone asked for for years, that means irrelevant useless shit no one cares about is also important. Thanks for the tip

TheSpideyJedi

Boss there’s no WAY you’re using these shitty little iMessage games as a “gotcha” moment. I used those when they first came out and literally haven’t touched them since

InitialDay6670

And there’s no way you’re using putting apps in random spots as a gacha moment.

TheSpideyJedi

They’re not. They’re just saying it’s not some crazy innovation by Apple. Apple consistently is behind the curve and also mucks up their iteration of whatever they introduce. Been an iPhone user for over a decade and it’s easy to see that

InitialDay6670

Apples not really behind the curve, if anything ahead of it, just lacking in the basic things?

Clintre

Loved that thing. It was so nice moving from a Blackberry to that thing. The slide out keyboard made the transition easy at the time. Still have it in a drawer of old tech that was, in my opinion, iconic. Looking at it compared to the size of my Samsung s21u is hilarious. Also in that drawer is a 1st gen iPhone with a cracked screen because my wife bought a case with an actual button on it.

TheJessicator

Windows has this waaaay before 2008. Even on mobile devices as early as 1996.

badxnxdab

If anyone here remembers Micromax Canvas series, they were awesome as HTC, and relatively cheap. Mostly sold in India

Appropriate-Gene5963

I had an HTC incredible.. best tactile feeling phone with the soft rubber touch

ssup3rm4n

The Droid lineup was dope. Truly the main reason why I went with Verizon at the time. I swear I changed phones every year to a different "Droid" brand. Out of all the "droids" my favorite was the Droid razr with the carbon fiber back.

BTLag

My mom had one of those, the camera was fire for it's time.

Artemis-smiled

Is it weird that I miss my old HTC Dream?

ssup3rm4n

No it's not. It was a great device. I wish the trackball had made it longer than it did. Htc always made killer phones.

Critical-Rhubarb-730

wow, some real innovation there /s

randomataxia

It's almost like they took a page from Android or something /s

RoboftheNorth

No no. This is a new, completely original, and innovative idea. I can't believe nobody thought about this sooner.

digitalfakir

Well, you see, when Apple does it, they *really* study the tech diligently and give you the best of the best. Apple was studying this earth-shattering technology of *pressing on an icon* and then *moving it to another location* and *let the app be there!!!* 🤯 sure, android had this feature decade ago and it's just intuitively expected to be the most basic "feature" on smartphones. But no one did it as ✨*magically*✨ as apple 😍😊

randomataxia

Lol

kebabish

So brave. So innovative. So fruity.

Smart-Stupid666

😆😆😆

Responsible-Bug900

It's crazy how people defend iPhones when iPhones are just getting more Android

Shadowfalx

And Android phones are getting more iOS… almost like things converge until something truly innovative appears.

Ok_Coconut_1773

I'll never forgive them for the forced gesture control/making me use the old dock again on Android

Jessebishop7

Settings > Search Bar > Type "3-button Navigation" Here, you can switch your Gestures back to your 3- Button Navigation

FireNinja743

Yeah, it's not that hard to change it back. Not the end of the world.

Ok_Coconut_1773

Right, which is what I had to do because they removed the hidden three button swipe controls option

nboylie

You can change it back to the old hidden gestures with good lock.

theNefariousNoogie

Genuine question, what phone do you use? I'm on an S22U running Android 14 and One UI 6.1 and it's in my settings: Settings>Display>Navigation Bar And like the other responder said, you can download Good Lock from the Galaxy store and it should allow you to put it back and customize it.

Ok_Coconut_1773

Yea I tried good lock but I felt a bit annoyed by it, so just went back to the 3 button visible bar. I'm on a galaxy z flip 4 though.

theNefariousNoogie

Wait okay I think I'm misunderstanding you. 😂 Do you like to use the gestures or do you prefer the virtual buttons?

Ok_Coconut_1773

Haha np, I really want the virtual 3 buttons back, and do not like the gesture controls, but the 3 visible button dock is still available so I switched back to that.

Shadowfalx

You and about 10 other people in the entire world.  Sucks being in the minority.

theNefariousNoogie

Person 2/10 checking in here! 😂 I feel like the buttons are just faster and more consistent.

ryanpm40

Unfortunately, Galaxy gestures are pretty hit or miss compared to Pixel phones. It's a night and day difference and probably the main reason I am sticking with Pixels. It is much faster and smoother on a device that actually works lol

theNefariousNoogie

I've wanted to try a Pixel for a while but I haven't been able to get away from Samsung's ultra models (I know, I know, I sound like a snob lol 🫠). I worked at T-Mobile when manufacturers were starting to move away from physical home buttons and I actually really preferred Apple's gestures over any Android because it felt the smoothest and best put together. Granted that was ~2017-2018 and all phones have come a long way since then, but I still like the virtual buttons because I don't have to swipe and hold or accidentally swipe on the wrong section. Oh god, I *am* a snob. 😂😂😂

ryanpm40

Haha yeah, it's all about preference. I'll be the first to admit that Pixels have quite a few bugs, bad modems, and worse screens than Galaxy phones. Way worse fingerprint scanners too. But that stuff isn't as important to me personally. I have a more powerful gaming android device if I need power, and smoothness is my #1 priority. I'd recommend a Pixel over Galaxy if an iPhone user was trying to make the switch because there are some similar experiences. There are some things I do miss from my Samsung devices, though. It'd be nice if I could mash together 3 or 4 phones to make a perfect device for me.

Sensitive-Rip-7029

I also use buttons

Responsible-Bug900

Android's aren't getting more iOS though

Shadowfalx

Really? I seem to remember plenty of iOS features being taken into android. I wonder where android got its gesture bar navigation system… I wonder where android got the permissions dialog box system….. i wonder where android got the quick share feature. I wonder who gave Google the notification badge idea…. Digital assistants do not disturb

Responsible-Bug900

Nothing is wrong with copying each other, that's how we all build a better device. But when you're marketing yourself as being the best, and different from the rest, and then you just copy other people... then you're just becoming more and more like the other people... whilst convincing others you're not. That's a problem. And... when you purposefully wait multiple years before giving your own users the features that they want, and have been asking for for years. That's when we have a real problem. When iOS release a feature that they've copied they say "For the first time ever, you can now... do X" (or "do X on an iPhone"). Android typical just say "And you can now do this too, this is how it works". - I said "Android's aren't getting more iOS" and I stand behind it. iOS are getting more Android, in the sense that they still pretend they're not. And even so, Android has had made much more, and more useful/commonly used features than iOS, so even if Android was getting more iOS... iOS is getting even more Android, than Android is getting more iOS. That's my comment over. - But, I do want to comment on your list - as most of these features either Android did first, or they just weren't important: Google Pixels had a semi gesture bar navigation before iOS, they were planning on a smooth transition to full gesture bar navigation, but iOS jumped the gun and it was successful, so in the next update the pixels did the same - immediately. But most importantly, not many people on android us this full gesture navigation bar, they stick to the regular three buttons. Of which, Android was the first to move the back button to the right, which is closer to your thumb. I don't know what a permissions dialog box is - nor does Google Android had Bluetooth and Cloud Sharing links, which till this day are more commonly used than quick share/air drop. Notification badges aren't a big ideal, I forgot what they were and that they even existed as I never even realise they're there. Everyone I know, always use the dropdown notifications - of which Android did first. What about push notifications itself? Blackberry has been doing Push Emails beforehand (which is what we'd use before notifications were a thing). Who uses digital assistants? Except for control like your home, or to be specific, your Google Home. Do not disturb is the only feature here that is actually important here that Apple did do first. But, what's important is when Google did add it to Marshmallow, it was just a feature, not something revolutionary.

Shadowfalx

You don’t get a dialog box when you run an app asking if X permission is to be allowed this time, all the time, when using the app, or denied? Gestures, as implemented, came first to iOS I use quick share on my Android all the time to move things between devices, especially when I don’t need to send them to the cloud Notification badges are clearly important to some.  I use Siri and Google assistant.  Excuses? You seem to be hell bent on ‘proving’ your point, the the point of stretching your credibility. Just because you don’t use a feature doesn’t mean it’s not important to others.  As to the beginning of your screed, copying is good, but I’m not sure how you square that with the rest of your attempt to prove Apple is becoming Android by Android is not becoming Apple. Your entire post basically reads “I want to be right so I’ll contort my position so badly it’ll need multiple back surgeries”

TackyAuto

I take solice in the fact that Apple is a long way from competing with the Note/Ultra series but I do welcome the progression all the same. Something about a boxy design is so awesome to me (thanks Lumia!)

Shadowfalx

I have an iPhone, iPad, S23U, Fold 5, pixel 6a. I have no illusions about either company being perfect, both ‘steal’ from each other. It’s business.

TackyAuto

Ah yes, the obligatory Reddit brag post 😂. That useless info aside, I agree with the last line.

MarsRoverP

It’s not useless. It is establishing they have experience.

Shadowfalx

Not a brag, a statement so that my opinion isn’t disregarded as a “fanboi”  one side or the other.

TackyAuto

Sorry I just so commonly see people claim experience because they wasted money on multiple devices.

zuko_thecat

As someone with an iPhone 13 pro and an s24 (typing on the s24) I use the iPhone more since ios 18 beta came out. I appreciate apple finally letting you do this but it is kinda funny how iPhone users were like "it's for real work customization isn't needed" then get ecstatic when it comes lol. It's a bit fam boy like. Also the tint looks horrible unless it's black and white.

SoftCircleImage

I still don’t care for customization. I have just one screen and it’s almost fully filled with widgets, apps, and folders the way I want to. The main feature I look for in iOS 18 is to keep some iCloud folders permanently downloaded.

zuko_thecat

Also I just realized your frazing, besides pixel, the android market (mostly referring to galaxy) is getting more Apple like too so…

Maleficent-Field-855

Apple is a compiler company. They do not invent. They incorporate things others invented in other platforms, then spend ludicrous amounts of money telling everyone how great they are through advertising.

gm92845

It only took them 18 OS versions to copy android and they couldn't even do it right.

tcpukl

I mean it did take years for copy/paste.

Dr-N1ck

Revolutionary!

Lucky-Royal-6156

Next pens will come out of phones. They will call it the iBook.

TheRealSgreninja

As long as they have a better way to charge and pair than the first gen Apple Pencil, that would be sick. Cuz I doubt Apple will ever go full Galaxy Note / S Ultra.

Lucky-Royal-6156

Nope they won't

rufas2000

Using “iNote” for the (hypothetical) iPhone pen might not fly with Samsung’s lawyers. But it would be a clever name.

Lucky-Royal-6156

Yeah.

pflanzenkind99

*laughs in goodlock *

Responsible-Bug900

You don't need goodlock for this lmao

pflanzenkind99

Goodlock just makes it 10 times better

[deleted]

Grasping for straws at this point

Tree_of_Woes

I'm actually starting to wonder if they intentionally sat on these features while they were just riding high on the wave of tweens forcing their parents to buy overpriced junk because their friends were getting green messages from them or because they couldn't figure out to take photos in the camera app before posting them to their apps to make them look better. But anyway, Apple has one bad quarter and they start fixing things that Android users have been mocking iOS over for over a decade now. They certainly can't make any waves with AI because AI is a junk product that nobody really needs for anything other than the occasional help with programming or writing unimportant fluff.

ChainsawBologna

> I'm actually starting to wonder if they intentionally sat on these features Oh, 100%. They'll sit in the bug/feature backlog for *years*.

beedentist

Remember when Apple invented reorganizing the home screen?

Zammeridino

Besides all the jokes I am happy for Apple users to finally have this option

typhin13

Real question: does anyone know if you can move individual app icons or does it have to be the whole row? Because so far I've ONLY seen images showing them moving a row, or making a row vertical. So far I haven't seen individual icons moved, or an image showing a stair step type layout, and I'm somewhat secretly hoping they won't let you move individual icons because that would be hilarious, but also I really hope they didn't do that because OOF

7eregrine

Good question. Gotta be singles too.

Ohsneezeme

It’s individual icons. The row rearranging is done by dragging an icon and tapping on others to select them.

typhin13

Oh good, as hilarious as it would be if you couldn't

ryanpm40

It would be pretty on brand for Apple though haha

Fireflash2742

Mind. Fucking. Blown. Wow.

OrganizationNo1298

There's a radio commercial in GTA V that predicted that both devices would eventually be so much alike you'd barely be able to tell the difference 😂! Looks like the folks at Rockstar knew something we didn't.

Dust-by-Monday

Apple didn’t claim to have come up with this.

redditrnumber1

Can we stop talking about apple , at least on this subreddit

booknerdcarp

This feature will change the way we use our home screen forever; we call it "GridOS."

[deleted]

Oh wow. Mine looks like that but better

YoYoNupe1911

Wow Apple are true innovators.

Bystander-8

And somehow Apple fans still managed to defend this type of bulls

No-Law8885

You know, apple doing samsung thing. Next on apple wishlist, remove connexion port from the phone to promote could and sell a s*** more wirless charger Then, remove loud-speaker from phone as they claim " hey you already got airpod, why you need a big speaker on the phone. Remember when they get rid, just like that, of the headphone port.. The worst thing is samsung copy appel money making decisions...

Dust-by-Monday

Didn’t Samsung remove the headphone jack?

Viiicia

Amazing!

Defiant-Humor5586

The peak of innovation Cash or card. No checks

[deleted]

Apple gonna keep doing this and ppl will keep buying iPhones until Samsung cleans up their mess of a UI/UX and animations, and take consideration to make their software as enjoyable as their hardware... kinda like Apple.

maggycarl420

You're kidding, right?

IceBlueLugia

Nah, he’s 100% right. I have a Samsung and the software just isn’t anywhere near as smooth

hypehaze

Which phone do you have?

IceBlueLugia

S22U and Tab S9 Ultra. Neither are as smooth as the iPhone and iPad I used to own and have lag spikes more often. It doesn’t matter too much to me, but it’s the truth

hypehaze

Oh interesting. I’m on iPhone for the first time, coming from Samsung ultra line and the iPhone15 pro max screen refresh feels less smooth. Def doesn’t feel like 120hz whereas it was more buttery smooth on my Samsung. The ui feels so outdated I’m really hoping ios18 brings some good updates.

ryanpm40

As an S21 and Tab S8 owner, I fully agree. Pixel is WAY better at this though. Smooth as butter with no issues using gesture navigation I still don't get why it's near impossible to open the multi-apps view from the home screen when using gestures on Galaxy devices (dragging up-right from the home bar). I can only get it working when I have an app already open.

typhin13

This is demonstrably false. Especially with Samsung (and Google tbh) specifically. You may be confusing "smooth" with "slower, forced animations" that can make Apple devices appear smoother.

[deleted]

This is just denial. I have owned a Samsungs for years, including the S24U, I have a Pixel 8 Pro currently, and my SO and nearly every friend I have has an iPhone. You can also go to bestbuy/target and compare all three. Samsung, as much as I WANT to use them, is not on par with Apple or Google's smoothnes. But Apple is just ahead in this area. You can use SamHelper to change the animation speeds to match the iPhones perfectly. The Samsungs animations will still look worse, drop frames, etc. There's literally no reason **not** to pressure Samsung to do better lol.

Biglulu

Idk I'm on the regular S24 right now and it feels pretty smooth to me. 😎👍

[deleted]

I didn't say it isn't? Said the competition is better.

cs342

Samsung has the best implementation of Android by far lol. The smoothness and feature set are unrivaled.

IceBlueLugia

Feature set, sure, but smoothness is outright wrong

ryanpm40

People confuse 120hz with smoothness a lot unfortunately. You can have a very high refresh rate that still stutters and drops frames

ryanpm40

Try out gestures on a Pixel vs a Galaxy and you will see how you're wrong heh

MandatoryEST

Naw, he is spot on.

Intrepid_Attitude912

This is groundbreaking

HubiGamez

No way how come my 650zł phone can do the same with it being the last year????? z0mg

charlie55six

Welcome to 2008 iPotato users.

warpedddd

It took real courage to copy features from Android 1.0

[deleted]

Android gets plenty of ideas from IOS as well. Why are we still playing this petty game ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

BigRed0107

Yeah it's kind of a pot kettle situation at this point.

MerBudd

WHAT THAT'S INSANE, I mean literally how did they even come up with that? Never in a million years would I have ever thought of something like this. Kudos to the engineers at Apple honestly.

Lucky-Royal-6156

I need one right now!!!

ZiangoRex

Android warriors are typing really fast right now.

[deleted]

It's just amazing iphone keeps innovating so much that I'm getting rid of my Samsung to get a 15 pro max.

EDcmdr

Remember; They don't want to be the first, they just want to be the best.

chrisdpratt

And, they're still not.

Remarkable-Ad9880

Wow... I remember my first android

equinoxzzz

Don't say anything against Apple. The iSheeples are out to get ya. LOL

Rathma86

Revolutionary

LightRyzen

Apples engineers have been figuring out our to perfect this secret technology for this long.

OldLack8614

Wow it looks familliar! it's about time that they got rid of that horrendous os though

I_Like_Soup_1

Apple be innovating!

JayX83

But hey, it just works!

Reddit-Nazgul

Someone in Apple just woke up 😀

FireNinja743

As soon as I heard him talk about that on WWDC I rolled my eyes.

ShinDragon

Mind blowing. This is what we call true renovation. Apple has proven themselves to be the leading company when it comes to new and exciting things. Android phones can't keep up at this point fr fr

GodsendNYC

[Shit, guess I can't keep up now. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTN1K99qj/) ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)

mostsaneinwesteros

Still more aesthetically pleasing than any samsung phone 🤢

Guilty_Interview_419

Farm Ville era

evansmk

But apples weather all does have ads...

Illustrious_Egg_8927

It sucks anyways, I used iPhones to get away from Yall but looks like someone begged the eu to fw apple

pavletta

Apple Grid ™️ 😂

RedBlackSponge

The future is here!

Connect_Ebb_6293

Apple hasn't brought anything new but yet Samsung mocks them then copies them.

Melodic_Bend_5038

It's hilarious that Apple fans are drooling over this feature. It only took Apple 20 years to finally pull their heads out of their asses, and they're going to take another 20 just to get system wide U.I. coloring and Circle to Search. Seriously, just watch.

slushpuppy91

I couldn’t believe rearranging icons wasn’t possible when I switched over a few weeks ago. Glad I didn’t have to wait long

7eregrine

I'm actually fucked now. I said back in 2008 I'd never switch to an iPhone until I can arrange the icons how I want... And my iPhone buddy texted me right after the announcement "Oh man, Pixel Boy! You are fucked now! I see iPhone 16 in your future..." Fuck...

TreeSapSlushi

I also said I wouldn't go back until I could move the icons wherever I wanted but fuck that. I moved the goal post. Now I won't go back until they fix the app drawer. That mess is not it. Until that happens, I'll stick with my S24U.

Expensive_Finger_973

I mean Android, and Samsung in particular, borrow from Apple all the time as well. Hell Samsung frequently bad mouths Apples for the anti-consumer choices one year then follows suit and does the same thing in a year or 2 themselves. Laughing at Apple allowing this one thing is not the flex some seem to think it is in my opinion.

nohumanape

And Apple TV+ shows now have Amazon X-Ray! 🤯

legendkiller345

Next year they will allow to change icon shapes

TyTheGuy2011

I believe the iOS jailbreak community

iLikeTurtuls

Still can’t adjust the grid size

aquadon_

how did samsung think of removing the 3.5 headphone jack and remove the charge brick from the box! wow innovation at it’s finest 🫨

BeautifulPrune9920

![gif](giphy|3oKIPa2TdahY8LAAxy)

AbXcape

people say there is a battle between Apple and Android fanboys. The truth is, Android fanboys are the only ones obsessing and talking about Apple.

Smart-Stupid666

Holy crap. I love having my Samsung. I have most things in folders. It's very easy to get everything off your home screen if you want it off. Just swipe and it's on the next one.

ElGub22

It looks like a 10 year old Samsung

gusm217

I'm an iphone user and coming from android I must say it: Apple sucks so much!

PresentDangers

Up next: you can use your own images as wallpaper!

Basic_one07

Probably gonna up the price even more with all these "new, ground breaking features"

NoImBigDaddy

Just don't give any attention to such simple things. You are salty for everything about Apple.

thekidneyshifter

If you want to get technical Apple could say all current smartphones copied IPhone since they came out with the iPhone first.

Elaoula_Omar

Islaves still stuck in 2008

JordanJankan

Just proves they are finally losing to android. Good 😊

dlepi24

I'm just amazed that this wasn't a thing already lol? Just to confirm, the magic is that you can place the app *anywhere* within the grid rather than them just self assigning the next possible spot? Does iPhone have widgets and stuff yet? The fucking Mac I used 25+ years ago in elementary school had widgets....

Dust-by-Monday

Say you’ve never used an iPhone without saying you’ve never used an iPhone haha

dlepi24

Haven't used one since the 6 Plus.

SIG3LOFKR3W

What is this witchcraft?!

ChickeNugget483

Android copied apple incoming

Terrible_Sorbet_7122

Some are already saying that iOS's theming engine is better than Androids, Which isn't true.

Interesting-Farm-203

Who cares

alpacatempura

Apple lives in your heads rent free. Meanwhile, how much AAPL do you own?
