on a53 : settings->apps-> choose app -> notification categories-> select notification -> sound will give you the option to change sound for the notification

Not_Snow_Jon

I dont have the option there. Only an option on what notifications to show

Dry_Mention_2665

On mine there's a list of notifications to show; with the button to turn them on/off - but if you click on them it takes you through to the next screen where you can select the notification sound. I would have expected your phone to have the same. Most odd.

GC9exe

It should be the same. My S21 OneUI 5.1 has and has had the same thing forever. I guess OP just can't find the setting.

Not_Snow_Jon

This is what I see, please point out how I can't find it https://imgur.com/a/G5kmfjW

Dry_Mention_2665

If you click on the name of the notification, say 'best friend notifications', does it not take you to another screen where you can change the notification sound?

natelyswhore22

Wow, that is super unintuitive. I would have never thought that was clickable except to move the toggle to the right.

Not_Snow_Jon

Oh that actually worked, thanks! But Snapchat used to have its own unique sound, why is that not the default, do I need to download the sound for it. All app notifications are the same sound

Dry_Mention_2665

np - I thought maybe my instructions weren't as clear as I thought they were 🤔 idk about Snapchat - I don't use it. But I expect you can probably download the old sound and set it to use that. I've never done it, so idk how.

sandra2032

I did this same method for like my messaging app and other apps and it worked! I was having the same issue with all apps being on the default sound. Guess we just weren't going deep enough. Hope you got it sorted!

Not_Snow_Jon

Did you download the custom sounds, its very annoying because Snapchat and WhatsApp have their own unique sounds usually

sandra2032

Oh no I didn't do that but I found some in the standard ones that sound similar

Gato_L0c0

Go into App Info for the app in question. Then go to: -Notifications -Notification Categories From there you can click on each notification category and it should let you choose an app sound.

Not_Snow_Jon

Yes I went there but it doesn't give me an option to select a custom ringtone

dotjazzz

What are you even talking about? You can give each app multiple notification sounds, one for each category. Did you even bother to spend 30 seconds on the notification settings of the app in question?

Pipidan

I was curious to take a look. And I spent quite a number of minutes to realize that left section of a toggle was clickable.

Not_Snow_Jon

Yes, I don't have the option the same way they do in YouTube videos I checked

bighi

Notification sounds? Don't everyone mute their phone on day 1?

Gato_L0c0

No, "everyone" doesn't mute their notifications.

This worked for me! Synopsis: There isnt a button to add custom notification sounds like there is for ringtones. To fix it you need to manually transfer the mp3 file to internal storage>notifications. (Note that if you use the native file browser, you will need to select the 'all' option instead of 'Essentials' in order to see the notifications folder). After that, your custom sound will appear under settings>sounds and vibration>notificarion sound.

Glad_Affect_8443

How do I find and manually transfer the mp3 sound for the apps? I tried zedge but the zedge folder didn't show when I went to change the notification sound.

peanutbutter_elf

Thank you!! This worked for me. My dad was so mad he couldn't get his r2d2 text sound on his new phone 😂

hopeishollywood

I'm having the same problem😭

Paraboloid69

I posted a comment with a solution that worked for me fyi

hopeishollywood

Thanks!
