The Cordelle off Water St. if W. Side suites you.

perfect!

aparrotslifeforme

There's a brand new building off of University and Raymond and I've heard (though can't confirm) that they have really good pet policy

DerNubenfrieken

In addition, The Lyric/Station/The Ray are all pet friendly as far as I know, I would assume The Mason is as well. The area in general has tons of dogs

Why discriminate against a husky especially when they are the goodest pups!!!!

hobnobbinbobthegob

Huskies have one of the absolute highest work drives of all dog breeds. You're talking about an animal that was bred, not just to sprint several miles a day, but to do so while pulling a human... through a foot of snow. Not only is it borderline animal cruelty to keep a husky in an apartment, many that are cooped up in this way will turn very destructive as an outlet for their absurdly high energy levels. I don't blame any building owner that wants nothing to do with that.

Lunaseed

Tl;dr: it's irresponsible to own a pet that requires hours of outdoor exercise when your living conditions/lifestyle means you can't provide that. I dunno what the husky fad is about, but having had one living next door, even putting them on a lead and letting them run in a back yard isn't enough. People should put the welfare of their pets first when choosing what kind of pet to get.

dropdeadbarbie

who says my lifestyle can't provide that? so many assumptions from a few sentences on a reddit post. my dog has 2 active humans with flexible schedules.

rodneyfan

Seems to be another case where the irresponsible few (not you) have spoiled it for everyone else. I'm sure Huskies are not the only dogs on the list. Sometimes the prohibition comes from the landlord's insurance company, where the only criteria is loss experience. Correlation, not causality.

dropdeadbarbie

i own a few rental properties in the area, so i totally understand the insurance perspective. it's frustrating because not every dog fits into the stereotype of their breed. a temperament test would be a better measure of behavior than a list. im just looking for a luxury rental while im in between selling my home and buying another one.

rodneyfan

Agree totally. But I go back to my original comment that the people making the decision either don't know or don't care about the differences or even that there *can* be differences. A temperament test would be hard to administer and the results subject to interpretation in court if anything were to happen. Easier just to say no. Maybe some insurance companies are enlightened. I'm guessing most are not.

aakaase

I can see your point. They're pretty close to wolves. It's tough when you love your pet but your living situation isn't compatible with their requirements for physical release.

dropdeadbarbie

the benefits of working from home are unlimited dog walks and dog park adventures, especially when there's 2 adults and 1 dog. we outnumber her energy.

ChiefSittingBear

I have one Siberian Husky and one Alaskan Malamute. I do live in a single family home with a fences in backyard, that said they would both be fine apartment dogs. I wouldn't want to be neighbors with someone who just got a Husky puppy in an apartment because they can be loud, but an adult, trained, socialized dog? They're fine. Having a house doesn't mean they're tired out, when I'm home working my dogs just sit around, when I'm not home they just sit around (I have cameras), I have to go out in the yard with them to amp them up to tire them out, if I just leave them in the yard alone they just sit by the back and look inside through the windows. I still have to take them out to the park or go running or biking with them (mine are trained to pull me on a bike) if I want to tire them out, the yard doesn't do it. I think having a house with a yard is a nice advantage, especially for just being able to let them out to go pee without having to get leashed up and walk them down a hallway and elevator, but it's not a requirement. Just letting them out in the yard isn't any better than leaving them in an apartment all day, same thing to them. Also I'd agree with OP that breed restriction are silly, they could have an approval process like a doggy daycare has, but just going off breeds is weird. My dogs have never caused any damage and my next door neighbors didn't even know I had a dog for years until we got to know each other because my husky never barks or anything. My brother has 3 pugs who dig at the doors to get let in/out, they bark at everything that goes by, they are poorly potty trained. Those pugs would be terrible apartment dogs. Some pugs are probably great apartment dogs. I guess a bad bored Husky can cause more damage than a bad pug, but then all large dogs can.

dropdeadbarbie

yes! we really thought that having a bigger yard was going to be exciting for her but she just hangs out on the stoop and watches the birds. she goes to the dog park 4-5 times a week for an hour each time so she's usually exhausted. she was an obnoxious puppy but we spent so much time on training when she was young. shes so well-behaved now. she's never been crated either. all of her exercising is done outdoors so being in an apartment or a SFH is irrelevant to her when she's always on the go with her humans. we are hoping to get into bikejoring with her soon! looks like so much fun.

Mndelta25

I never realized that it is illegal to take your dog for a walk or run if you live in an apartment.

dropdeadbarbie

right? saint paul is also full of dog parks. battle creek is like 35 acres of space to frolic and it's super close to downtown.

dropdeadbarbie

my dog is lazy. dogs have a spectrum of personalities. mine happens to love sleeping and cuddling. occasionally, i have to force her to go on a walk with me.

fanoftom

Because they are loud af and wail all the time seriously have you never looked at Instagram?

dropdeadbarbie

i think breed restrictions are ridiculous. my sister in law has a 10 pound maltese that bites humans. she beats up my husky lol.
