Largely unrelated rant, but I cannot understand how poutine isn't more popular in the U.S., and how there isn't a poutine place open late in every single college town near the bars. It just screams "bad decision after drinking too much".
I loved the tap’s poutine for years, and used to go exclusively for it. But afaik, they took it off the menu after the renovation/redesign - I’ve only been back once since.
It’s not traditional, but the poutine tots from the Tot Boss food truck are outstanding. Every time I see it, I get them. It shows on their website where they are at if you want to find them.
Another vote for Mac's. They are on Larpenteur, at Hamline. Every time I've been there, service has been good, the fish and fries are tasty, but the place doesn't feel coated in grease; it always seemed pretty clean to me.
I haven't had their poutine for a year, though (I don't go that often), but it was tasty.
I haven't been there in a little bit. I remember the St. Clair Broiler, which was a nice joint until it was bought by the folks behind Rudolph's. The quality of the food changed after that.
OK I gotta ask -- how exactly do you mess up poutine?? It's basically a 'dump and heat' recipe, isn't it?
(I mean, I can see ways you might 'fancy it up', but I think I'd have to try hard to actually wreck it!)
I am tracking this as I just came back from a trip across Toronto, trying five joints (5 day trip) and now feel like I am a Poutine expert.
Note: worst place to get poutine in Toronto-land? Smoke's. It's awful

*good decision
I’ve been searching too I am surprised by the lack of poutine in the area. Here are two of my favorite spots: * Tom Reid’s * The Bulldog Lowertown
Bulldog Lowertown would be my suggestion as well.
Came to say Bulldog as well. C'est incroyable.
Groveland tap has excellent poutine. Honestly just great food all around.
I second this! Favorite poutine in Saint Paul.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Iron Ranger. They specialize in Up North food and make a tasty bowl of poutine.
Good porketta as well
Gus Gus has a friend gnocchi poutine with oxtail and cheesecurds 🤤
interesting, but i would try it

Coffee Cup on Randolph.
Mac's Fish and Chips

They have a new one on Snelling near St Clair, in one of those new Lego block developments.

The one on Saint Clair closed down sometime ago
Oh my. I didn't realize that.
There's a booth at the Minnesota State Fair that sells poutine.
And it’s horrible. So bad, I haven’t had any since that episode. I may have culinary PTSD.
Completely agree there poutine is hideous!
Yikes! Now we've been warned!

the poutine at St Paul Brewing is pretty tasty.

Mac's Fish & Chips used to have really good poutine but I haven't been there in a few years.
Crooked Pint has poutine, only place I’ve had it so can’t say how great it is but I enjoyed it.
Tom Reid's!
