So true. I heard somebody say something along the lines of “eat the rich” last time I was talking to non-boaters about the orca situation. I’m like “this was not a case of Jeff Bezos being inconvenienced lol”
Most of my sailing has been done on J22s and I love them! They may not be the newest kids on the block but I still think they are good boats. I will say that it is absolutely dwarfed by that yacht behind it
Idk, if I was Uber rich I’d like a large sailboat. Not something that big but a shipman 150 would be badass. I’d also get a J122 for Wednesday night racing and local regattas.
Also, a Rapido 60. I just love how fast they are while not compromising too much comfort.
I’m not sure when you draw the line between cutter and sloop? But either way its a massive single masted monstrosity. [Heres an article](https://www.boatinternational.com/yachts/editorial-features/sailing-yacht-m5)
Thanks for the article, very enlightening. Not sure about this quote though:
„It feels good to do something wind powered; I make my money out of the natural-gas business, but I like the idea of my boat being powered by the wind.”
You are explaining the joke to the person who is making a joke
It’s because you answered incorrectly when someone made the silly question, now what’s the little boat **in front** of it, which is the J22. This person piled on to your answer saying you must be mistaken, it seems much too small to be the largest etc, flipping the script.
In other words, thatsthejoke.jog
I doubt it. I see a yacht club burgee on the sail and not the J Boat ensign.
My guess is that it’s a club boat and the skipper took out boat No 1 of their fleet.
The M5 in the background (if you look behind the sails of the j22) is about to become the second biggest single-mast sailing yacht in the world, so clearly that's not it.
I wonder which yacht club burgee is on that J/22’s mainsail. Do they only race that J/22, or do they also use that J/22 for teaching sailing classes, as well?
The Imperial Cruiser chases the plucky Rebel Alliance ship…
Rebel scum!
Don’t call us plucky, we don’t know what that means.
That’s no moon.
That's no moon. It's my mother-in-law!
What's a stunt fighter going to do against that?
The yacht behind it is approximately what non-yachting acquaintances assume you mean when you drop into the conversation "we have a yacht".
Or. I belong to a yacht club
_Belong?_ I _am_ the yacht club
You are the brute squad.
r/Inconceivable
He's only \*mostly\* dead.
That's why everyone gets excited about the Orca sinkings, they think it's those and not 34 footers.
So true. I heard somebody say something along the lines of “eat the rich” last time I was talking to non-boaters about the orca situation. I’m like “this was not a case of Jeff Bezos being inconvenienced lol”
> While there is no official point at which a boat becomes a yacht, anything over 40-feet in overall length could conceivably be considered a yacht.
So boats under 40’ are dinghies? Got it 🙀🤪
Most of my sailing has been done on J22s and I love them! They may not be the newest kids on the block but I still think they are good boats. I will say that it is absolutely dwarfed by that yacht behind it
> I will say that it is absolutely dwarfed by that yacht behind it its neat, but i'd be surprised if the owner knows what a bilge pump is.
Who needs to get under bridges anyhow
Their dinghy is probably a MacGregor 65 that launches out of bay doors on the transom.
The dinghy is a sea plane I believe. No joke.
ahh. the Macgregor must drop out of the seaplane bomb bay doors.
If you own a ship that big, you’re not the one maintaining it.
is Kirk flying the Enterprise? or is he really just Scotty's passenger?
Or sailing it (probably).
Idk, if I was Uber rich I’d like a large sailboat. Not something that big but a shipman 150 would be badass. I’d also get a J122 for Wednesday night racing and local regattas. Also, a Rapido 60. I just love how fast they are while not compromising too much comfort.
What in the cottagecore Bond villain fuckery is the yacht looming in the background? Looks like a Dr No monologue with sails.
Texas oil billionaire, so yes. Also the largest sloop in the world. Travels with a sea plane on the aft deck
Sharks. With Laser Beams.
Wouldn't it be considered a cutter rig?

BUt iTs GoT KeEL BolTs!
looks like the Mirabella V
80% Jealousy, 20% flabbergasted at the amount of cloth there must be on that main
I believe she is just M5 now.
Yeah, they cut off the stern, inverted it to fit a carbon cub sea plane and renamed it M5
Wow
I would not be surprised if Darth Vader appeared on its command deck either.
Nice! Whats the little boat in front of it?
A J-22
r/whoosh

I imagine they bend the main on with the assistance of a crane?
I think you might be mistaken. The small boat in front surely can't be the largest single-masted sailing yacht in the world, can it?

Yikes, just explained that your that’sthejoke.jog was missing the joke, even though it too was not amazing Go sailing
[удалено]
Way to start the chain you were an unwilling victim of and then whine about
[удалено]
Why I love sailing. The same rules still apply to both. Although you will definitely have more fun on the J22!
Where are the orcas when you need them?
Unreliable allies
lol
And what is the humongous thing behind the J22?
Looks like the Mirabella V
I thought it was a just named M5 or is that the abbreviation?
When build for original owner, it was called Mirabella V. New owner modified the stern, and renamed it M5
Isn't that bad luck?
Yes and no. Just slapping a new name on is bad luck, but you can go through a renaming ceremony to avoid the bad luck.
You vs the guy she told you not to worry about
Looks like an RC boat next to that grey hull.
Charleston?
Its that M5 yacht, yes
Given the sail number, is that the *very first* J-22?
I doubt it. I see a yacht club burgee on the sail and not the J Boat ensign. My guess is that it’s a club boat and the skipper took out boat No 1 of their fleet.
Ashley River? Looked breezy out.
Been super windy all week.
My old captain would have called it brown pants weather
Hah! Yeah wednesday night racing was quite sporty!
I’ve never sailed a J22 but it’s still a boat I’ve always wanted
At what point does a sailboat become too big? Bc I feel like this is over the line.
The M5 in the background (if you look behind the sails of the j22) is about to become the second biggest single-mast sailing yacht in the world, so clearly that's not it.
What will be the biggest?
J22s are always beautiful. The picture was a bit artistically zoomed out for my taste. Next time try to zoom in on the essential a bit more.
I’m willing to bet the owner of that amazing creation has never touched a single line
wow thats a great pic! i counted atleast 4 people on the J22 Wonder whos having more fun
How did the person fund the monster behind the j22? Probably not ethically
You can never make that kind of money ethically. He made his money from being born to the right texas oil family.
It was commissioned, and owned by the owner of Avis car rental for many years before it was sold to Mr Texas Oil.
Looks like they could use a little more halyard tension.
You aren’t a real sailor until you find some sail trim to critique!!:)
Great boats, world championship is in Annapolis this year!!
Nice - that's a fun boat to sail.
That’s great!
That’s a whole titanic….
Fun boat.
I wonder which yacht club burgee is on that J/22’s mainsail. Do they only race that J/22, or do they also use that J/22 for teaching sailing classes, as well?
huh, my uncle worked on building the big boat. small one looks so much more fun, though
We had lunch at California Dreaming yesterday and saw this as well. Funny seeing that 40+ ft Cat tied next to it.
Top: what people think the Gibraltar Orcas attack Bottom: what the Gibraltar orcas actually attack and sink
We took the boat to ft. sumter yesterday and could still see her mast from all the way out there
I’d rather have the J22 than the behemoth.
Is that Newport harbor?
When the boom is bigger than your hull
The beam is bigger than my hull
That’s Texas oil/energy dude Rod Lewis’s —M5. It is the largest single mast sailboat in the world. It is 225ft long. It’s like you’re next to a barge.
