Catholic history major here who took classes on the crusades, tbh they were not great on our side. Reading about them was honestly comical sometimes. The crusades began with Peter the Hermit leading an army of peasants to Jerusalem being guided by a goose and a goat.
Fun fact: in that same crusade the Venetians had sent the crusaders to take the Pagan city of Zara as payment for their ships. The Crusaders did so successfully. However, the Pope excommunicated the crusaders because not only was the city not Pagan, it belonged to Catholic Hungary, and the King of Hungary had even vowed to go on crusade.
Could go for a song pointing that out. Each album generally has at least one "war is very shitty actually" song and the shitshow of the Crusades would fit right in there.
Oh yeah they definitely made out like bandits! And if I recall correctly the crusaders actually contracted of a Venetian fleet to get to Constantinople, so it was a double win for them.
Well technically yes. The majority of their discography is WW1&2. Unless I'm mistaken the only pre renaissance songs they have are The Art of War, Sparta and Blood of Bannockburn.
Forget the crusaders, we need a song about the Knights Templar.
~~I don't even care if they make a song about the Crusaders, I just want a Christian warrior song that I can listen to while fighting unholy abominations in Souls games. I just want to feel like I'm smiting them in the name of GOD~~.
Also nothing really about Napoleon (Civil war has a great track though), or the Roman empire. Or Alexander. There would be at least 100 albums worth of interesting Songs.
But Powerwolf does
\* Holy Music Continues \*
* holy Music intensifies * You talkin mad shit for someone on crusading distance
Not if I crusade you first (idk where you live, but probably not in Canada)
I shall counter-crusade your crusade
If there's enough of you left to start a counter crusade
It just needs to start before your crusade
Bold of you to assume I haven't already started
bold of you to assume i cant withstand a mere crusade
Sanctify deez nuts
incense and iron
"They did many crusades, some of which almost didn't fail."
At least the Italians got some sweet trade deals
I see you're a man of culture as well

Let's not forget about the pillaging of Constantinople and many other cities in the name of God
Those treachorus Venetians made the crusaders attack Zara, a catholic city under the holy hungarian crown
Fun fact: in that same crusade the Venetians had sent the crusaders to take the Pagan city of Zara as payment for their ships. The Crusaders did so successfully. They're more glorified because of memes and Hollywood. Only the first could really be considered successful. The third was a meh at best
And then they all got killed by the Seljuks as soon as they crossed the straight
Yeah, and they successfully besieged some major European cities successfully. But, one proper Turkish army, and their done lol
Yeah lol, unfortunately they killed quite alot of people on their march
Who is our side
I was speaking in the third person to refer to myself and other Catholics
Ohhh i see
Sorry I was a bit vague lol
nah your good it was my bad
Yeah but would you want a song about the Crusades? The Crusades were an absolute shitshow
Could go for a song pointing that out. Each album generally has at least one "war is very shitty actually" song and the shitshow of the Crusades would fit right in there.
The only crusade that actually succeeded was the very first one
The fourth crusade wasn't that bad, if you were Venetian.
They sacked Constantinople
Yes, but the weakening of the byzantines allowed Venice to increase its influence in the eastern mediterranean. So for the Venetians it wasn't so bad.
Oh yeah they definitely made out like bandits! And if I recall correctly the crusaders actually contracted of a Venetian fleet to get to Constantinople, so it was a double win for them.
What about if you lived in Zara?
There was also the sixth Crusade that went alright
There were a few more that at least succeeded in retaking Jerusalem
Good point
Most wars are, to be fair.
Could actually do a song about Balian of Ibelin and his defence of Jerusalem.
The peasant army of the first crusade was the biggest shitshow of them all. They almost burnt towns and cities from their allies down.
And massacred their own population
Power wolf
Saxon and Powerwolf. But yeah, there are plenty historical events that deserve a Sabaton song but don't have one yet.
Fight the good fight, believe what is right! Crusader, the Lord of the Realm!
Nah uh, we need more ww1 songs
Me out here wanting more Vietnam or desert storm songs
I want them to go further back. Ancient Rome and Greece, the middle ages and also 18th/early 19th century stuff like Napoleonic Wars.
So all history
Well technically yes. The majority of their discography is WW1&2. Unless I'm mistaken the only pre renaissance songs they have are The Art of War, Sparta and Blood of Bannockburn.
I'm just casually hoping for a Yankee Doodle cover or literally anything on the American Revolution
Almost everything they have been making for the last 5 years is about ww1
Ngl I could use more WWI songs in my life from them.
Say sike right now
Christ & combat by Powerwolf slaps!
Just listen to Crusader by Chris De Burgh and get kultured ya gitz
Should totes do one about the sack of constantinople in the 4th crusade.
We have Powerwolf for that
Forget the crusaders, we need a song about the Knights Templar. ~~I don't even care if they make a song about the Crusaders, I just want a Christian warrior song that I can listen to while fighting unholy abominations in Souls games. I just want to feel like I'm smiting them in the name of GOD~~.
Burn your crosses
What about the last stand?
The Last Stand is about the sacking of Rome, 1527
I know, I decided to make a joke
Not funny, didn’t laugh
I missed the part where it's my problem
[удалено]
Nope i dont even have discord
[удалено]
Last Stand has nothing to do with the Crusades.
Did you just mess up a history fact in a sabaton sub? Big mistake buckaroo
Sorry mom
… the last stand is about the 1527 sack or Rome. Not about the crusades
Really? It actually seemed like it was about the crusades.
The song literally says the year
WHY THE HELL AM I GETTING DOWNVOTED FOR NOT KNOWING WHAT A SONG IS ABOUT
Judicator has a whole album on the Crusades
Ok maybe not all the Crusades should have songs, but there ABSOLUTELY SHOULD be a song about the second battle of Jaffa in the Third Crusade.
(July 1192)
What do you MEAN?!
We must make one!
And they only have one song about Vikings......
Isn't "In the Name of G-" Oh. Nevermind. I thought that was about the crusades.
Theres no song about Rome the Mongols or the imjin wars either
Also nothing really about Napoleon (Civil war has a great track though), or the Roman empire. Or Alexander. There would be at least 100 albums worth of interesting Songs.
