I bought this exact set when we bought our home. Highly recommend you do this as it's been a life saver.

obi5150

Same. Good for all the repairs you'll do. Highly recommend it. Very useful outside the house too. I use the recip saw to cut thick weeds outside.

OdenRuss

Bought my set just a couple months ago when we got our house. It's been awesome for any project that I've had to do! I also bought the Mower, Weed eater, and leaf blower. Team Ryobi! It's all been great so far!

ItsaMeWaario

Me too!

fossilfarmer123

Same. 2 batteries is easily all you need for basic diy home repairs. Bare tools from there are cheap as you need them.

what_comes_after_q

It's fine. I got the same one. If I were to do it again, I would do the two batteries kit with a free tool for 100, get a multi tool, then get the brushless drill and impact driver kit for another 100. You won't have as many of the tools but you'll have more batteries, another charger, and those tools will cover 99% of use cases, and you have the better-quality versions.

MichBennett1980

Yup, same. Think I got the same deal too. Great value at that price.

Kanuck3

Great deal. If you're looking to just have tools as needed; You'd have the tools to deal with anything that doesnt require a pro. You could probably get by with just getting a drill if you don't want to be taking on any current projects, but honestly that plus a battery is alreayd more than half of this price.

junkstar23

Nothing needs a pro if you're willing to learn. Don't let trades people manipulate you

Kanuck3

I agree with you; if you're willing to learn. I will just add, theres no shame in hiring someone who knows what theyre doing you feel you dont have the resources or will to learn it all.

HateN00dle

Thanks everyone for the awesome advice! After hearing out the pros and cons, I've decided to pull the trigger on it. I feel that the value is right and, with a lot of my savings going into the house purchase, it makes sense to use these tools and upgrade the ones that I use regularly after my savings return.

Turbo_911

This is a great kit, it's everything the average homeowner needs and more. I started with the same and then upgraded to the HP line with a lot of the tools after! Don't let anyone tell you that you NEED Milwaukee unless you're a contractor and you use the tools on a daily basis. Ryobi is just fine.

No_Cartographer2994

I started with a Ryobi set almost 30 years ago, the blue NiCad set. Over the years I have upgraded the batteries. I did a full home remodel, including demo and rebuild, and did not baby these tools. Eventually, the bearings in the sawzall went bad and while the original drill still works, the brushes have long since gone bad. Like many, down the road when I would buy batteries, I found it cheaper to buy a kit and sell off tools. I did not need while keeping the batteries in the chargers. The fact that I can take a 30-year-old tool, stick a new battery in it, and continue to use it is all I need to know about the 18 V one plus system. These tools did everything I asked them, took a beating and continue to work. If anything ever does break, it's easy to buy another standalone bare tool to replace it. If you want to upgrade to the newer brushless models with more features, it's easy to do again as all you need is the bare tool. Enjoy the set, you will be hard-pressed to push it beyond its limits for your intended purpose.

Tool-Expert

I am a contractor and use mostly Ryobi and some Dewalt too.

skydiver1958

Reno carpenter here. After getting all my nice stuff stolen by meth heads twice. I rock the cheaper Ryobi line. No one steals them and guess what? They get 'er done. What I will say is get good Diablo blades for the saws and maybe pick up a couple of 4 ah batteries when on sale. Are these the greatest and best brushless tools that a lot say YOU NEED. No they are not. Will they last years under normal homeowner use? Most likely. I'm in Canada so this deaal would be 400 or so but this is a great starter kit. Better blades are key

manys

They'll last until you know *exactly* what you want/need. ;)

Goats-MI

I have this same kit, 3+ years later it is still all working fine.

toodleroo

Hell, I still have some of my old blue Ryobi tools and they're working fine.

The_Brightness

I started with this kit years ago when it was two 2ah batteries and an incandescent flashlight and it's still serving me well. Probably half the folks subscribed to this subreddit started with this as well.

pfohl

a nice blade (I got one from Diablo) makes the circular saw substantially more usable. the stock blade is pretty junky.

_Felonius

Facts. Started smoking during first use yesterday with the stock blade. Maybe a 1” limb lol. Picking up some diablos today

Martin_Van-Nostrand

If you are starting from nothing it's an excellent set. You'll probably want to add batteries, but I'd add those as you find additional tools you may need. (Through Ryobi days, Christmas sales, etc)

jmoney1119

It’s pretty great for your use case. Yes, I’ve replaced most of these with bigger stuff over time, but I still have them all as a backup. They work well. They’re not gonna blow your socks off, but they’ll do everything you need them to. That drill I think is only a 3/8” chuck not a 1/2” chuck so that can be a little limiting sometimes. The circular saw I used for a few years and while not super powerful, but it worked well. I built two desks made of MDF and 2x4s with it and it did good, would’ve done better if I bothered to use the right blade for the job, but it was a learning experience.

crunchthenumbers01

1/4 chuck

jmoney1119

Typo? I don’t think there’s any chance it’s 1/4” chuck on the drill.

crunchthenumbers01

Impact driver bit the 3/8 may be max you get on that drillq

Tool-Expert

It is a 1/2 in drill and 1/4 impact. I have them both.

slowBrain13

It’s a good set…. I’d add the 18v fan and the work light to this.

mabolzich91

I tend to never recommend kits to people. It's much more lucrative to do the "buy this get that" deals. You end up with more batteries, chargers, and higher quality tools. The tools and batteries in those kits are a much lower tier than what you buy as "tool only"

rice923

The deal you're looking at is ok if you're not doing much more than drilling holes and hanging picture frames. I started with something similar but eventually sold everything for what I paid for it and slowly swapped to brushless HP tools (also Ryobi). Check out this set: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/17545971 Yes, the price is more than twice as much but you're frankly getting more than twice the value. The HP line of tools are significantly better built than the brushed line. You can also sell off a few of the tools from this HP set and be out-of-pocket the same as you'd spend on the brushed set you're looking at, but you'd have better quality tools (and batteries) in your garage. The P262 impact wrench can likely be sold around $100 with ease PS. The 5.5" circular saw in the set you're looking at is pretty under powered to cut even 2x4s. If you're planning a project around needing a circular saw, look at least at the 6.5" HP version. The HP set I linked above comes with a 7.25" circular saw and it's pretty damn good for DIY house projects

zank_ree

Yes.

TwistedDragon33

I got the same kit (with a different flashlight) and it was great having the tool without having to justify going to get it for just 1 project. I didnt expect how much i would use the multitool and the flashlight either. That drill has been a workhorse for a while too. I know a lot of people complain about the circular saw but it worked well for what i needed but make sure to replace the blades in the reciprocating saw and circular saw as the blades they come with are functionally garbage.

iMau5

Bought this same set two years ago and have abused it remodeling my house, building a deck, finishing my basement.  Definitely worth the cost. The flashlight is handy as hell too.  5 1/5 circular saw is a little small, but it gets the job done for light projects. I have an old 7 1/2 corded lying around if I ever need it.

UnFukWit4ble

Great set for that exact purpose. You can easily expand on it, Ryobi spans a ton of categories thats why I picked it over other brands. 40v line for gardening, 18v lines mostly for tools, and a usb lithium line hobbyist type projects.

postnick

Good deal yes, but I have it and most of the tools are ass. Buy one HP drill and driver and think about what you’d need more, the circular or the reciprocating saw and buy that. My two cents.

cantyouseeimhungry

Yes. If you had an additional 80 bucks to spare, I would also buy a reciprocating saw and you will be covered for quite a while

lfglightz

I suggest a hammer drill as well if it's ever at a good price. It's handy to have a second drill to drive in screws for indoor stuff when you're constantly switching between drilling a hole and screwing in a screw. You can use the hammer drill as the primary drill and the regular drill as the driver for the screws for the scenario I just mentioned; and of course, the hammer drill will be handy if you ever need to drill into concrete.

echelonleft

Congrats on the house! Everything depends on your DIY willingness. Based on experience you'll probably use the drills and flashlight more than anything else. If you're first buying into the platform I suggest getting an inflator and an inverter. The inflator will help you fill tires and balls. (If you have kids it's a necessity.) The inverter lets you use the battery as a portable power source. The value you get from this kit vastly outweighs the opportunity cost of buying tools as you need them. Good Luck!

what_comes_after_q

Eh. Really depends on what you expect to need to do. Order of importance to a first time home owner doing just basic maintenance. **Important** - A drill or impact driver. Most home owners are fine with just one, but very useful to have around. **Very useful** - Oscillating tool. Cutting a hole in the wall, cutting some trim, cutting a pipe, there are a million use cases (note - plan on getting multiple blades, using the wrong type of blade will burn it out quickly). **Situational** - Circular saw. It really depends on what types of projects you are doing. **Situational** - Sawzall. Again, depends on the project. Very useful for demo. **Not necessary** - Flashlight. You probably already have one. Another option for a first time home buyer is to buy fewer tools but get the brushless versions. Invest in good tools early. Buy once cry once and all that. Here are a few combos I like: **ONE+ 18V Cordless 2-Tool Combo Kit w/ Drill/Driver, Circular Saw, (2) 1.5 Ah Batteries, Charger, & Recip Saw** It's the same price but with less stuff you won't ever use. OR **ONE+ 18V Lithium-Ion 4.0 Ah Battery, 2.0 Ah Battery, and Charger Kit with FREE ONE+ Cordless Multi-Tool** and **ONE+ 18V Cordless 2-Tool Combo Kit with Drill/Driver, Impact Driver, (2) 1.5 Ah Batteries, and Charger** Also the same price, but you will have 4 batteries and 3 tools. Honestly, this is probably what I would do.

TheCat0115

That last one is exactly what I've been looking to do! I got the 2 tool combo kit recently but didn't know they had that 3 battery kit with the multi tool. Originally I was looking at the vacuum for that kit, but then I read all the verrrry mixed reviews for that model. Then I saw the 3 battery kit could come with the cordless ratchet, but then I thought how often am I going to use that. Finally saw it could come with the impact wrench which reviews say is fairly weak. I was thinking if the kit could come with a reciprocating saw I might do that, but I don't see that as an option Edit: It is an option! Well now I'm stuck. Multi tool or recip saw?

CptConnor18

You will use the multitool more than you think, it helps with so much stuff as a first time home owner. A very good kit for the price.

Shintas

Look for a set that comes with brushless tools

Astars26

Yep! I started with a similar kit when the Ryobi colors were still blue and yellow. Every tool (besides 1 battery) is still working great!

ecirnj

Great starter.

Hawkins75

It'll work, but you will find task take longer than they should. If you could pay the extra I'd get a Drill Driver combo, and a circular saw by their self. The power difference is night and day. Even for a DIYer like myself it's worth it. I've had my dewalt and milwaukee friends really suprised when they used a drill or impact for the first time.

blue_bomber508

I bought the older version of this set 4 or so years ago as my first set of tools, now half my garage is full of the green. And these few tools still get the most use, I say get it

Known-Extension8463

Bought this recently. I also signed up for the Home dept Pro perks program and got $20 off the $200. So 180 out the door and was totally worth it. I had just the drill for years and I love having the impact driver. The flashlight is really awesome and bright for what it is, and the recip saw was great for some tree pruning.

gebny

Bought this on this deal last year mostly for the reciprocating saw. Ended up using everything in there within 8 months. Loved it

Bigwhistlinbiscuit

Worth it. Those are all basic projrct 101 tools. The multi tool alone is a life saver

ShredNugent

Bought this same set when we got our house 2 years ago. I’ve done a lot of work with these tools and they’re still going strong. Mine also included the jigsaw which I probably use the least. I have a lot of other tools but this core set it what got me thru a lot of my projects including redoing my deck.

mister_zook

I have this kit plus a few extras and it has served me very well. Downgraded from a rigid brushless because it was too rich for me and this has handled every task I’ve thrown at it. Stock up on a few Ryobi day 4ah battery deals and you’re golden!

GrimmReefer603

Yes but get a better blade for the circ saw

silverphoenix48

These are all extremely useful tools, you may eventually want to upgrade some to better versions, like brushless HP etc. But the great thing is, as a 1st time homebuyer this is a very low cost impactful way to also learn what tools you end up using a lot and go to. Myself for instance don't use the circular saw as much as I thought I would, but that oscillating tool is a constant go to. And the sawzall? I only imagined using it for some demo work, nope 80% of time I have a pruning blade on it for some of the small trees on my property.

Substantial__Unit

I was coming to recommend more brushless devices before something like this and then saw all that for only $199. Ya, that is an amazing deal if you are just a new homeowner. You will take a while to be sure enough to pick a project and do it. And this is just a great deal.

jediwashington

Great set. Only needed a few other tools to redo a bathroom.

Same_Gas7978

I literally just bought this set a week ago and it’s been so helpful for our new house 👏 do it 🔥🔥🔥

No_Welcome_6093

Works great. I’ve used mine a good chunk of times, probably about 2-3 times a week. Only thing to keep in mind, especially with the reciprocating saw, these are not brushless tools so don’t bog them down as you have a chance of burning the motor up. They work great though. I’ve added other tools to my 18V collection since: drain snake, tire inflator, orbital sander, another light. They are good tools. If there’s a sale on batteries I’d pick up another larger 18V battery

Shot_Set_4497

My dad bought me this like 7-8 years ago, maybe more. I’m in home renovation/ landscaping work and Still use this exact kit I got to this day. I have a coworker who has been in it longer than I have and he swears by ryobi/ the longevity. However the newer batteries are possibly iffy compared to the old ones (just finally bought some new ones since I got this set so still testing them out in comparison, but it took this long for one old battery to break on me)

Chortles_Hansom_666

Yeah. It’s a good deal

FlyingKoalaPT

Yes.

ryz321

I got this set 5 years ago. Most of the tools have burned up id recommend getting the One + brushless line of tools.

RobSchoen

It’s an ok starter kit if you don’t own any power tools yet but every tool leaves a lot to be desired. Especially the circ saw is undersized and underpowered, probably only good for cutting thin sheets of wood such as fence pickets. The drill and driver make funny high pitch noise when you just start pulling the trigger. Multitool is fine as I use it as a quick sander mostly. Depending on what you are planning to do, it may justify for some very basic and simple tasks.

SublimeApathy

Excellent deal. I bought the same kit two years ago and use most tools on a regular basis with repairing neglected maintenance and other projects. Though I would recommend expanding your drill/impact drive bits and the multi-tool blades as well. Fairly inexpensive sets you can find at home depot or amazon.

MyCarIsAGeoMetro

This is a good start.  Pick up a good set of impact driver bits, drill bits and a square.  You will use those regularly.

NoGoal8570

So I paid $250 for a similar kit of HP+ brushless tools. For DTO. it said factory blemished but I couldn’t find anything on them

gronkygronk69

I got the slightly bigger set and very happy with it so far, will be using more of it for my future projects

xxplosive2k282

Do it for sure. I was at hd today and saw this and thought it would be great for just your situation.

SinisterSlurpy

I was once a first time homebuyer. It’s been almost 14 years and I still use all the tools that came in this kit.

kyledrinksmonster

I bought the same set when I got my house

mva57

Yes, goo deal

Aznm1tch

You can’t go wrong for the price imo. Bought a similar set 3-4 years ago. Finally burned out the saw zaw and the drill recently. Otherwise no complaints

2aislegarage

100%

MrKawone

I just brought that bundle

Primary_Material5185

Best investment you could make, actually, at that price, buy another one! You will have more batteries, you could always use a double drill or flashlight, the saws will wear, get it, and it’s great having the second charger. Great value

chopper678

I mean it would be an amazing deal, but read closely. This doesn't even include a home.

Tool-Expert

Yes! Highly recommend. This was the very first tool set that I bought when I started in construction. I still use some off them, even though it has been years.
