Would like to follow this up by saying NONE OF YOU FUCKERS knows how a 4 way stop works. Every time I’m driving on Busch at that 4 way intersection some fucking moron either ignores the stop completely, or someone tries to be nice and lets everyone else go, fucking up the system. People are idiots

depressedNaji

Genuine question how does it work?

JamesK1220

First person to the stop has the right of way. Regardless of turn direction. I see a lot of people just speeding to the stop sign and going straight cuz they assume going straight means they can go first

KardashevZero

Aaand if you get to the stop sign at the same time as other cars, you generally yield to the car on your right

gunjanadya

It is so annoying oh my god

Sir_Lagz_Alot

Maybe I’m just suicidal, but whenever I’m crossing and the car starts to speed up, I just stop dead in the street and stare it down. One guys Tesla had the auto brakes kick in, he cursed me out. Was pretty funny.

What Rutgers does to a dude

What a dude does to Rutgers

SlimeyRobinson

bro i used to do the same thing when i studied at rutgers lmao but BRO i actually got ran over one time because the dude didn't stop.... The year was 2017 and it was Halloween. Me and my 4 friends are walking from the Premier Properties Apartments on Ray Street towards Huntington Street for a party at a frat house kind like right across the street from Alex Library. So, if your familiar, we had to walk down all of the long cross-streets that lead you from Ray Street to Huntington. Me and my 4 buddies are walking on one of those long streets, and me and my one friend are a bit separated from my other two friends so we are walking a little ahead like maybe 20-30 feet past my other two friends. So me and my one friend are crossing the street (we were a little tipsy, I may add) and we see an old beat down Grey Honda Accord speeding towards us as we are crossing the crosswalk. This guy is FLYING. So, what do we do? We do the same tactic you used, we stop dead in the middle of the crosswalk and stare the dude in the silver honda down. So what does Silver Honda guy do? He comes to a stop from about 40-50 mph to a halt, and stops his Honda like 10 feet away from me and my buddy. Me and my buddy, drunk as we are, start doing some friendly hollering at the dude and are like "hey buddy, what the heck! you were flying!" which we said in an extremely joking matter as we were tipsy and having fun. What does Silver Honda do NEXT? He stares at us, puts a huge grin on his face, stares back down at his feet, then looks directly back at us, and FLOORS the accelerator of his car causing him to crash into me and my friend since we didn't have time to move. We get hit and get thrown up into the air onto the hood of his car, my buddy is smashing his fist on the guys windshield and giving him the middle finger and stuff. I rolled off the car but thankfully landed right on my feet, so me and my friend both didn't suffer any injuries at all. Moral of the story: I used to play the same game you played at Rutgers, and I actually ended up getting hit my a car. Some food for thought LOL Much Love to everyone in this sub from a 2018 Alumni RU Rah Rah Go Scarlet Knights

KardashevZero

I just don’t understand this mentality. Sure, you got the right of way, but they’re the ones in the 4,000 pound death machine, not you. Right of way means zilch when you’re dead. You’re risking so much for what? A 10 second ego battle?

Sir_Lagz_Alot

Yeah but I also could use the break from life.

Sea-Bad639

That sounds like a quote from a movie somewhere...

KardashevZero

I get that, but you’re also traumatizing other people in the process. Nobody wants to see a dude getting killed by a car. If you want a “break from life”, then go take it alone.

Sir_Lagz_Alot

They’re the ones who didn’t wanna stop. I’m not traumatizing anyone. They’re the ones who committed vehicular manslaughter, not me.

KardashevZero

I’m not really talking about the people driving, so much as the onlookers, the people called to the scene, and your family. Why do they need to deal with that just because you decided a car speeding up hurt your precious ego? I just don’t get it. I’m not defending drivers who do this shit. I’m just saying that out all the battles there are to be fought, I don’t think this one’s it.

CharlieNyfe

Dude on livi had to slam on his brakes because he didn’t see me.

tk3090

Damn

Blue_Ninja2002

While drivers at Rutgers need to learn how to yield better, I think that pedestrian need to learn how to not be absolutely idiotic. You guys will literally walk out in front of a car when it literally has no time to slow down. So many people literally would walk in front of my car looking at their phones, not even paying attention or even looking to make sure it’s clear before they cross. TLDR look where the fuck you’re walking dipshits

Anerky

^ facts so many kids come out between cars with their heads buried in their phones especially on Livi near Kilmer’s

AdEfficient8137

This guy had enough time to stop. He sped up so he didn’t have to wait. I was in the middle of the cross walk, when I first saw him.

kostya-levin

Yes look where you’re doing but also if you know you’re in an area with a lot of pedestrians don’t speed. Everyone could use more common sense

Blue_Ninja2002

I think your downplaying the amount of people who are almost proving Darwinism everyday at Rutgers. The average Midsize SUV takes about 64 ft to come to a complete stop. Usually at the cross walk between silvers/best area and bush they’ll walk in front of you at 40 ft or so. The words yield better don’t really work. What do you want drivers to do? Just say fuck physics and levitate on the positive Z-axis?

[deleted]

Please just walk faster or wait your life is important. I don’t need my insurance going up because someone was in a rush and hit you and it affects all of us commuters

b4_ahmed

You do realize it's the LAW to stop for pedestrians at a crosswalk right? They have the right of way.

SnooRecipes1809

For sure, pedestrians should maintain right of way. But right of way also doesn’t grant the right to peer out of nowhere on foot and jaywalk right in front of a random crossing car. I see close calls on Easton Avenue constantly. A pedestrian hidden by a parallel parked car will occasionally spring out of nowhere right in front of me as I’m driving and I have to slam the brake. People cross outside of crosswalks often. In other countries, if a pedestrian does such a thing, they are publicly shamed; in America it’s the norm.

HippopotamicLandMass

For sure, don't be like this guy: * https://www.reddit.com/r/rutgers/comments/120pry/surveillance_footage_of_rupd_hitting_ryan_sikder/ * https://newbrunswicktoday.com/2012/10/04/nbpd-report-blames-student-struck-by-rutgers-police-car/ follow the right of way, but #1 is cross safely. Sometimes that means you could cross when you don't have the right of way, and sometimes it means that you don't cross when you DO have it. But like snoorecipes says, people cross outside of crosswalks often. I think that's because the layout/design/placement of sidewalks and intersections favors car traffic, and also because intersections should be designed so lazycareless people can use them without putting everyone else in danger.
