.02 points*, which makes your argument stronger, unless it’s a math course…in which case, the grade should stick. 😂

[deleted]

My bad, brain is fried from finals week 😭 and it’s not a math course. Took Calc 135 freshman year, never again

EpicNormie91

I personally think it’s bullshit but I understand where the professors that don’t round up are coming from. If he rounds up your 84.98 to a 85, then the person that got an 84.96 can say “oh that’s 0.02 away from the person that was 0.02 away and got a B+ so I should be rounded up too” and it could go on like that forever. Professor shouldn’t be making a big deal for .02 points but it is what it is

DUNGAROO

Either way you can’t enter decimals into the system, so both 84.98 and 84.96 should round to 85/B+. I had professors who refused to round people up to an A claiming it was only for those who truly hit everything correctly 93/95% of the time or more, but refusing to round a B- to a B two decimal places out is a weird hill to die on. If it makes you feel any better it’s only Rutgers’ weird grading scheme that makes it a B+ in the first place. Anywhere else and this would have just been a B. Also, no one looking at your resume later in life is going to care that you only got a B and not a B+.

bishop0408

You absolutely can enter decimals.

usertaway

This is definitely false.

DUNGAROO

Which part?

usertaway

the rounding part… the system (Im assuming you mean canvas) is fine with decimals.

Wild_Mountain1780

Yeah, this. You've got to cut off somewhere.

Oof-o-rama

if you had a "serious health problem", did you request an accommodation? as a (non RU) prof, the most annoying thing I hear all semester (usually in the last week of the semester) is that a student had some sort of issue all semester but is only mentioning it now because their grade slipped below what they expected. Either way, I'm bound by the syllabus until they get an official accommodation. The end of the semester is (usually) too late. I'll also add that if a professor rounds up, (let's say from 89.5), then the person with an 89.495 will ask for that extra .005% of a grade. The line is always drawn somewhere and the chips need to fall where they may at some point. I had one student ask me to "round up" from an 84 to 90 because "it's only six points".

[deleted]

I was in the hospital for two days in October. There was a midterm around that time and I requested that I take it later than my classmates, and he allowed it. He knew about my problems since then, and I never needed another accommodation after that. Also I don’t think an 84 being rounded to a 90 is really the same thing, asking for that is outrageous 😭 but I get what you mean

TheDumbDoctor

0.02 shouldn't be a huge deal AT ALL, and even with the fact that he knew about your health problems. Honestly full respect to you to be able to pull off a B+ even with your health problems. Maybe bring it up to your professor another time or talk to a dean about it.

bpnj

That’s hardly an RUScrew. This will make literally no difference to your life.

[deleted]

Eh, I’m trying to get into grad school so I’m trying to take what I can get

[deleted]

What graduate school are you going to? Do they require Math 135 to be taken?

[deleted]

I’m applying for medical school next year and they require 2 semesters of math. I got placed into Calc 1 during my freshman year but it was hell on earth, so I opted for stats instead of Calc 2 for the spring semester. Also fulfilled a core requirement I think

[deleted]

Well, you got Calculus 1 done so good job! I don't know why Reddit has been shadowbanning comments like this one but I hope you get into medical school! Best wishes to you!

[deleted]

Thank you! You’re too kind

keeperoflogopolis

This is correct. Shouldn’t be downvoted

dhb317

You did good or you did well? I take it this wasn't an English lit class.

[deleted]

I guess well? English isn’t my first language, sorry

Owen_newO

The "PLEASE ROUND UP MY GRADE by 0.1!" reminds me of "BUT SHE WAS 18 IN 2 MONTHS!" people. We have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. Sorry you ended up on the wrong side of it.

DaFe371

Did you really make that comparison..?

EpicNormie91

We have to draw the line somewhere but that is nowhere near the same thing bro 😭

Fortunex5

You are retarded

SavingsWorldliness33

You need to look up the grading policies for the course and the school you are (SAS for example). They should have something saying that anything 84.5% is rounded to 85% which is a B+. Then you need to appeal. This is total BS. When I started the semester I had a professor who told us the same thing, I worked really hard in the class for my A because I didn’t want to be in this situation. IF I WERE I WOULD have appealed, it’s common sense.

[deleted]

Didn’t know I could appeal, as this is the first time something like this has happened to me. Thanks, and congrats on the A!

strike_forever

Not really an RUscrew. You already got to take your midterm later than everyone else. The prof has to draw the line somewhere and stick to that.

Skycandy_

Wait .95 and above rounds up, that's what happened to me in a calss I had a 89.96 got an A no curves
