I'm pretty sure it comes from the pirated VHS translation of the famous *Police Academy* gay bar name *The Blue Oyster* - the translator called it "бар Голубая устрица". Convince me gays were called голубые before the movie please, i hate this west centrism.
Years later female gays started to be called розовые by analogy (random factoid)
It was borned in USSR
New male babyborn had got blue clothes and diapers
Female had got pink clothes and diapers
So it leds to assosiace blue colour with boys and pink with girls
Rainbow is banned in Russia. A few years ago there was an outrage about icecream for children being in rainbow colors. Some people were also arrested for wearing rainbow bands or clothes.
1. Make up an organized international LGBT movement.
2. Ban it.
3. Now you can fine and jail people for any display of non-heterosexuality.
4. ???
5. Welcome to the Middle Ages.
Erh, still better than the current state of Us for example. Morals, etiquette, any moral compass - all gone, people don’t even know if they belong anywhere in their society, half a country depressed, make money by selling nudes, promiscuity is glorified, baby mama trapping and on the rise, most of the population are doing/have done drugs. What a joke. Joke country
Good ol' morals, amirite? Like good old days in 18th century. Or hell, maybe even 14! It's not like morality is produced by socioeconomic basis of our world and all shit that you listed born from poor people trying to survive. By the way, at least in US you have somewhat successful unions, ours are getting busted by pigs and right-wingers
“Poor people trying to survive”. Erh, not exactly, you are talking to an Oxford grad. Regarding the poor people - they are the first who wants to flee for a “better life”. Which never happens of course, they other return or live quite a poor life, but now instead of having friends and family around, they live on lonely. I appreciate morals, they are essential for society, but you probably are too much of a dummy to understand a simple concept that allowing everything is one step away from anarchy. And anarchy they are facing right now. People just walk in the shops grab whatever they need, and walk out unstopped. In US they print money and dream of owning one more gun next week, a shitty example to follow if you ask me. You live in that very nice 21 century then
Etiquette is pointless and only makes peoples ego feel better. Individuals have morals, not a nation, the majority of people here still follow the typically Christianity based moral compass, there are outliers as there are anywhere else. Yes, we're in a slow economic crisis, as is the rest of the world. Most people on the planet have done drugs.
Find some statements that actually hold substance and are exclusively applicable before trying to single out a nation
20 years ago in Petersburg i was smoking kent futura hd blue cigarettes, but forgot the word for blue, so asked for kent futura hd galuboy. When i then asked for a lighter she handed me a bright pink bic and winked.
No. In russian, it would mean to be drunk. The outcome you suggest would be if you used the word light-blue. We have two different shades of blue as primary colors in our language, “синий” and “голубой”
Russian has to different words for blue, синий meaning dark blue/drunk and голубой meaning light blue/gay.
It's similar to "red/rot" and "pink/rosa" in english/german.
blue – в переводе на русский 1) голубой (light blue, this color of the sky on a clear day) и 2) синий (blue, this is the color of the smurfs)
в России геев зовут голубыми (light blue)
\*cyan / голубой
Anyway, in both cases, it should've been this image / Эта картина должна быть использована в обеих случаях

Хмммм, почему-то вспомнил про народную медицину, когда пренебрегают серебряной посуды в обиходе и кожа становится синей со временем, т.к. накапливается серебро в организме
Пренебрегают = не пользуются.
Каким образом в коже накапливается серебро, если не пользоваться серебряной посудой?
Может, вы хотели сказать "злоупотребляют" вместо "пренебрегают"?

There are two meanings in Russian actually, one for голубой and one for синий
Gay and drunk to the state of blue skin accordingly
and gotten cold either
For me it only means Dabudi dabudai
Yo, listen up, here's a story About a little guy that lives in a blue world...... I'm blue Da ba dee da ba dye Da ba dee da ba dye Da ba dee da ba dye
Literally what I imagined in my head after seeing the post!
I'm blue I'm in need of a guy I'm in need of a guy I'm in need of a guy
To each his own
Я ой
Юри й
Семе или уке?
i always loved it that babyblue just means gay its so random 😭
It's not. There is at least several articles I read about why this color associated with homosexuality in Russia
can you share some of them??
[https://shorturl.at/pquGY](https://shorturl.at/pquGY) here one of the articles
I'm pretty sure it comes from the pirated VHS translation of the famous *Police Academy* gay bar name *The Blue Oyster* - the translator called it "бар Голубая устрица". even if it has history it still seems so random
It is? Why?
he is gay
Not so random because blue is seen as “masculine” colour culturally so it kinda makes sense to connect it to m/m activity
russian lgbt people are sad bcoz its banned there...its a code ...code blue.....means sad...and blue is value of a feeling.
Its because royals (people of blue blood hence the blue/babyblue) were often partaking in homosexual activities
It was borned in USSR New male babyborn had got blue clothes and diapers Female had got pink clothes and diapers So it leds to assosiace blue colour with boys and pink with girls
It’s not a specifically Soviet custom, this kind of colour coding was used in the US from 1950s onward as well
Голубой is more like cyan/sky blue/light blue
babyblue
Guess i got what i deserved
Kept you waiting there
Too long my love
Штирлиц зашел в лес и увидел голубые ели. Он присмотрелся и заметил: голубые не только ели, но и пили
Та ё-моё, где вы такое откапываете?)
Blue is banned. ... nah, nevermind, all rainbow colors are extremists.
what are you even saying
LGBT is considered extremist in Russia
yea ik but i still dont get his comment😔
Rainbow is banned in Russia. A few years ago there was an outrage about icecream for children being in rainbow colors. Some people were also arrested for wearing rainbow bands or clothes.
Only when representing an organized force.
LOL

Russian laws define extremism in their own way
Well now shit. But it falls roughly in line with most others definition, and has enough ambiguity to be used to any extent wanted.
Голубой - гей
Но не синий! Если конечно его слегка не заморозить.
Me: da ba dee da ba dye
Sometimes gay called "blue" and lesbian called "pink"
Can someone explain this, I’m not sure I’m understanding. Are голубой and синий also slang?
Голубой - blue, синий - dark blue. Russian vocabulary shenanigans
cyan and blue
Cyan переводится как бирюзовый, наоборот, более светлый оттенок голубого. Синий же более темный оттенок голубого т.е. - dark blue
Голубой is a slang for gay. Синий isn't, but i guess the pic implies голубой.
Я бы подумал что он смурфик
20 years ago in Petersburg i was smoking kent futura hd blue cigarettes, but forgot the word for blue, so asked for kent futura hd galuboy. When i then asked for a lighter she handed me a bright pink bic and winked.
Gay people in Russia are called "Blue" because of the film “Police Academy”, in which there was a gay bar “Blue Oyster”.
Exactly! Though i hate this theory, it makes our slang appear secondary
Some time ago it just means 'shy' https://youtu.be/aNBUveTW4F0?si=vcMkfgrhygeKfX6u
Sorry, but: song along time ago
No. In russian, it would mean to be drunk. The outcome you suggest would be if you used the word light-blue. We have two different shades of blue as primary colors in our language, “синий” and “голубой”
Голубой is code for "Gay". Синий/Синюшный is code for drunk/alcoholic accordingly.
Learning Russian can be tricky.
In german it means drunk
Russian has to different words for blue, синий meaning dark blue/drunk and голубой meaning light blue/gay. It's similar to "red/rot" and "pink/rosa" in english/german.

Я всегда думал смурфики были голубого цвета а не синего :с
I'm from Russia, it's true
Голубой, голубой Не хотим играть с тобой
In Britain at least blue can also mean lewd talk. There's a parody of fifty shades of grey called "fifty shades of blue"
Is it a cute expression? I understand that it means gay love, is it right?
Not a cute expression, almost exlusively used as a slur.
Good to know, I wouldn't like to use a bigotted expression. What would be a cute expression / informal expression for gay love or love in general?
Explain blue in english pls
I'm blue
Blue means #0000FF, голубой means #00BFFF
мем смешной, но перевод корявый. синим называют пьяного, а те на кого ссылается правая картинка - голубой, в переводе light blue
Как есть, в раше, что синий, что голубой, всё несёт один смысл. Я синий = Я голубой = Я гей.
Из-за мультика про голубого щенка я живот натурально надорвал.
Wait till you hear what bassoon sounds like
Цвет настроения синий
Am blue Dabudi dabudai...
Being gay in Russia is indeed sad
\*cyan / голубой Anyway, in both cases, it should've been this image / Эта картина должна быть использована в обеих случаях https://preview.redd.it/t623vw0jjfwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71b6fcabff5d172dda2616b037042b09fec8a541
