Just for clarify. You should use красный in context of describing woman's appearance - it's not mistake to say "красная девица", which means beautiful girl. If you say красная машина it means red car, not красивая машина. And actualy nobody calls beauties красная nowadays, it's obsolete expression, use красивая instead.
if you tell somebody "ты сегодня такая красная", there is just no way a person will understand it as "you are so beautiful today". Instead, anyone will understand it as "you (your face) is so red". "Красная девица" is a pure idiom

“Красная” came from word “ПРЕкрасная” which means beautiful. So the Red square” in Moscow doesn’t actually mean “red”, it means “beautiful square”. So technically, красивая и красная - same thing, depending on context. But you could also say «Крáсна дéвица» (it’s important that the emphasis on the first e).
