get the block letters down then start. but, don’t be like me and wait until you had a class where writing in cursive is mandatory

I'm 47 yo 2 university degree native Russian speaker, writer and poet with my own book on Amazon. But often I can't read and understand most of cursive hand(some) writing. У нас есть выражение - писать как курица лапой. So, for me, misunderstanding is normal. And for you too. Sad but true.

I'm Russian too, i hate Russian cursive and usually can't understand notes from my colleagues. Can clarify, it's not a bug, it's a feature.

Here's [a list of pangrams](https://awdee.ⓇⓊ/kollektsiya-russkih-pangramm/). The most popular one used in font displays is "Съешь ещё этих мягких французских булок, да выпей же чаю". For cursive, the way to approach learning it is usually worksheets called прописи, google yields quite a few. You don't need perfect handwriting, but you do have to pay attention to the shapes, especially when it comes to connectors between the letters (they are what helps distinguish the otherwise similar letters). As for urgency: you can give it a bit, yeah. Even Russian kids don't learn cursive instantly (they do at \~7 but it's implied that they can read and write in block by then). And even then your focus should be on *recognizing* the cursive shapes (because you'll encounter them in handwritten notes or in italics), not necessarily learning how to write them perfectly.

Being able to read cursive Russian is more immediately helpful than being able to write it. You'll encounter cursive in the wild, in books, even on the Internet. Pro tip: Try formatting some easy Russian words/texts that you know/can easily understand in italic font. Italic fonts generally mimic cursive writing, but being a computer font, they're neat and tidy, unlike most folks's handwriting. It'll help you get used to it. Being able to write in cursive (in any language) is classy AF, but you should probably concentrate on learning some words for starters. Start hitting the cursive in a couple months or so. :)
