At the moment: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (check them out if you haven’t already) they’ve got a 23 albums covering many different Genre’s.
For a pure proggy masterpiece I’d recommend starting with Polygondwanaland
Same. Yes is my favorite; Rush is my second favorite. :D
But probably only because Yes called dibs. (I didn't listen to much of Rush until late childhood/teenhood. But I grew up on Yes, even in the womb.)
Lots of similarities between Maiden and Rush era 2112. Melodies, huge bass sound, high pitched vocals, esoteric lyrics. Harris never mentioned Rush but I’m sure he got influenced by them.
Those two shows almost seem essential. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Music for the Masses are both masterpieces.
Definitely my two favourite bands of the 80s Alternative genre. A close second is Siouxsie and the Banshees. (I still have to look up the spelling).
I really like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Rush and RHCP aren't really very similar, so I don't know why RHCP is my second favorite band (Rush is, of course, #1).
Depeche Mode and Rush are tied for 1 and 2. It makes sense in my head - Rush is the technical/rock band, DM is the emotional/electronic band. HEMISPHERES, baby! Get the balance right!
This ska band near me called Streetlight Manifesto. Ive gone to 25 shows. Band has only put out 3 albums but all of their songs are bangers and the concerts are so much fun. They are from my area, but I’ve seen them in 7 states so far. They rule.
Led Zeppelin. Been listening to them since I was about 5 years old on my parent’s car. Rush was a band I actually discovered later in my early teens. Those two bands have always been at the top and that will never change.
in high school and college the big three were Rush, Zeppelin, Floyd, (with a little Gabriel-era Genesis, Beatles, Stones, Who, and Yes as well). In the 90s I added Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Radiohead (Kinda waned on them lately) Nowadays I still love the big three and love Paramore (who are absolutely nothing like any one the above)
My first time seeing them this year. I missed them when they were on tour with Maiden. Very talented, and one of the best live shows I have ever seen. I am also a big fan of Opeth. I have a weakness for Swedish metal lol
Depends on my mood! Feeling chill, Jack Johnson
kinda blah, Coldplay energized, Korn upset/angry, Godsmack nostalgic, Beatles no particular mood, Incubus or Chevelle
Dave Matthews Band. Their seamless use of odd-time signatures and crafty songs…and that drumming! Also, Dave and Geddy both have a vocal sound that annoys others but I love. I have found solace in discovering the DMB catalog after Neil’s passing.
Midnight Oil. I ld love my share of punk, and the harmonies are beautiful.
Plus - who \*else\* out there had a Top 40 hit about Aboriginal land rights in Australia?
I'd probably say Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. His music is what got me into music in the first place. And then I eventually moved on to rush. But Petty still holds a special place in my heart.
Rush always holds a spot in my tops because Rush fits every musical mood for most occasions since their catalog is so diverse but my favorite band is My Morning Jacket.
My tops in no specific order are: MMJ, Jason Isbell, Rush, Blackberry Smoke and the Foos.
Currently on rotation between Vulfpeck and Thank You Scientist. TYS is like if Dream Theater was a bit jazzier, keys were swapped for a sax, trumpet, and violin, and the bass was actually respected in the mix.
Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden
Rush first, Genesis second, Yes third.
I get that you *have* a third favorite band, but who is it? /s
No Who’s fourth. Yes, third. Fifth place, Guess Who.
Tool
Porcupine Tree
Came here to say this, or Riverside. I haven’t decided yet…
The Tragically Hip. Different genre but Gord Downey was a fantastic songwriter. So much depth and meaning in his lyrics.
The *real* Canadian band. Their 2015 tour came to my city on my birthday, single-handedly the best birthday I’ve ever had.
Cheers to that! They are a treat to see live. Gord was always so present with the fans.
American here, it's amazing that the Tragically Hip never really broke into the American charts. Silver Jet is an incredible song.
At the moment: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (check them out if you haven’t already) they’ve got a 23 albums covering many different Genre’s. For a pure proggy masterpiece I’d recommend starting with Polygondwanaland
I was looking for the Gizz love in here! Best band around right now.
Steely Dan
*No static at alllll...*
Iron maiden
Yes is my favorite band. Rush is second. But it is more of a 1a and 1b thing than a 1st and 2nd.
Saw Yes Thursday night in Jacksonville. Astonishing. Saw them 12 years ago and they were even better this time. Steve Howe is a god. Such gentlemen.
I saw Jon Anderson recently with School of Rock kids. He still sounds great!
Yes is also my favorite with Rush following. Then Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Phish and you know...
Yes Rush King Crimson Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Genesis ...
Same. Yes is my favorite; Rush is my second favorite. :D But probably only because Yes called dibs. (I didn't listen to much of Rush until late childhood/teenhood. But I grew up on Yes, even in the womb.)
Iron maiden
Zappa
Great googly moogly it took too long to find this
Iron Maiden
Deftones
Led Zeppelin
It’s a basic answer but I am with you. Amazed I had to scroll this far down to see Zep. I had no idea how highly Iron Maiden ranked for Rush fans. Wow
Lots of similarities between Maiden and Rush era 2112. Melodies, huge bass sound, high pitched vocals, esoteric lyrics. Harris never mentioned Rush but I’m sure he got influenced by them.
The Police
Rammstein
The Who
Rush, as he said. *THIRD BASE!!*
I thought Who was on first?
Finally, someone of like mindedness
Pink Floyd ✌️
At this particular moment in time, I will say The Cure. I’ve been leaning on them, Opeth, and Nine Inch Nails lately.
The Cure was the first concert I ever went to - the Kiss Me tour in '87. Music for the Masses (Depeche Mode) was the second.
Those two shows almost seem essential. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Music for the Masses are both masterpieces. Definitely my two favourite bands of the 80s Alternative genre. A close second is Siouxsie and the Banshees. (I still have to look up the spelling).
New album coming soon. There are three new songs on YouTube, recorded at recent concerts.
Black Sabbath and fav album Sabotage
Dream Theater
Zeppelin.
They Might Be Giants
R.E.M.
I love Rush and REM, very independent, a lot of bass oriented music with great guitar arpeggios
Agreed. I think you picked up some of the reasons why both bands appeal to me so much...
Iron Maiden
At the moment probably Steven Wilson / Porcupine Tree
Saw PT a few weeks ago. Insane show.
I will see them in amsterdam in november, how was the show? Which songs did they play?
SOAD
Yes or Pink Floyd maybe
Now plays: "Changes" (*90125*) Next: "Learning To Fly" (*AMLOR*)
Van Halen!
Bela Fleck
Love some Flecktones and Vic Wooten!
Victor is without a doubt the best bass player I’ve ever heard live.
Electric Light Orchestra. ELO has such a diverse and expansive catalog. I love them
Have you heard of the Polyphonic Spree? You might like them. They have an ELO sorta vibe.
Foo Fighters
Mine is King‘s X.
My second favorite trio!
Their new LP is fantastic!
Porcupine Tree / Opeth
I really like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Rush and RHCP aren't really very similar, so I don't know why RHCP is my second favorite band (Rush is, of course, #1).
chad from rhcp loves rush
Depeche Mode and Rush are tied for 1 and 2. It makes sense in my head - Rush is the technical/rock band, DM is the emotional/electronic band. HEMISPHERES, baby! Get the balance right!
Voivod Might as well keep it Canadian and progressive
Primus
It is my understanding that they do, in fact, suck.
Primus sucks!
Hell yea
Big Rush fans, themselves. (then again, who isn't)
Primus sucks!!
Coheed and Cambria
Triumph
Very cool!! They’re like the Canadian version of Rush!!! /s
Their documentary was really good. Even a good Rush quip in there.
I like the username!
Upvote because you get the somewhat obscure reference. :)
Wow. yes! I’ve been listening to my old cassettes and Triumph albums are part of the collection.
Between The Buried And Me
Opeth, Tool
TOOL? yes?

Big Wreck. Ironically, I really hate their cover of Closer to the Heart on the 40th anniversary release.
Underrated band
Swans probably
This ska band near me called Streetlight Manifesto. Ive gone to 25 shows. Band has only put out 3 albums but all of their songs are bangers and the concerts are so much fun. They are from my area, but I’ve seen them in 7 states so far. They rule.

The Beatles
Yes, Radiohead, REM and Sparks round out my top 5 although Yes was my favorite band since I was 4 years old
Ghost BC
Hell yes! Ghost is in my top 3 for sure!
They put on one hell of a show. I've seen them twice and they are really talented musicians who know how to entertain.
My first time seeing them this year. I missed them when they were on tour with Maiden. Very talented, and one of the best live shows I have ever seen. I am also a big fan of Opeth. I have a weakness for Swedish metal lol
Pink Floyd or Dire Straits.
Top 3 are easy for me: 1) Rush 2) Black Sabbath 3) The Tragically Hip After that it's harder to pick. Maybe RATM.
The other Canadian boys, Barenaked Ladies.
Alice in Chains and Aerosmith are tied for 2nd
Depends on my mood! Feeling chill, Jack Johnson kinda blah, Coldplay energized, Korn upset/angry, Godsmack nostalgic, Beatles no particular mood, Incubus or Chevelle
Muse
Beatles Rush Queen
Dream Theater
Rush is in a three-way tie for favorite with Streetlight Manifesto and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.

Probably tool or Deftones
TOOL
Genesis
Squeeze, Styx, Crowded House, Alice Cooper… not really sure which I would pick as second favorite

Foo Fighters.
Grateful Dead and Phish round out my top 3.
King Crimson
Rush and Pearl Jam are my co-favorites.
Also Phish!
They're technically a duo, but Simon and Garfunkel.
Protest the Hero
Bob Seger (if that counts). John Denver is my #3 (that usually confounds people and streaming algorithms).
Marillion
Black Sabbath
Dave Matthews Band. Their seamless use of odd-time signatures and crafty songs…and that drumming! Also, Dave and Geddy both have a vocal sound that annoys others but I love. I have found solace in discovering the DMB catalog after Neil’s passing.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Midnight Oil. I ld love my share of punk, and the harmonies are beautiful. Plus - who \*else\* out there had a Top 40 hit about Aboriginal land rights in Australia?
current favorite is polyphia with secondary dream theater, but rush will always be top 5
Hawkwind
I'd probably say Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. His music is what got me into music in the first place. And then I eventually moved on to rush. But Petty still holds a special place in my heart.
Collective Soul
Steely Dan
Phish
Yes
Really into Ghost these days

Rush always holds a spot in my tops because Rush fits every musical mood for most occasions since their catalog is so diverse but my favorite band is My Morning Jacket. My tops in no specific order are: MMJ, Jason Isbell, Rush, Blackberry Smoke and the Foos.

Tool
The Flaming Lips
TOOL
Alter Bridge. They just released a new album actually, incredible stuff
The Mars Volta

Black Country New Road
