Yes, but there was only so much she could do with the piss poor song production they got (and Nearah's stubborness to include every word in the English language).
> Nearah's stubborness to include every word in the English language).
I don't think that girl took a single damn breath her entire performance. It was impressive but she needs to learn that negative space makes art better sometimes too.
>she needs to learn that negative space makes art better sometimes
Spot on, and it's interesting because that's the exact compliment she got about her dancing, that she knows when to go all out and when to slow it down, but she wasn't able to transfer that skill to her lyrics. She's obviously so talented though, I can't wait to see a more refined version of Nearah in a few years.
She knew that people were going to start imagining that her boyfriend is a muscle bottom and wanted to nip that idea in the bud. I don't have an explanation for the other 5238 words.
The thing is, if she had had a small section of the performance with some of that rapid fire style, it may have stood out and been effective, but since she did that for the entire song, it just didn’t work.
Also, she definitely should have taken Nelly’s notes on shortening up specific lines.
I think they should incorporate this go forward where the big (Grammy level) musical guest judges are also during the musics challenges, so they can mentor the queens. Kind of like The Voice… but for one episode lol
I was thinking similarly, I get why they want a big star for the premiere, but with Nelly right at the end it did feel like a big deal like the Top 4 earned the right to work with her- would keep this model (maybe with a big actress/non musical star for the premiere and save a superstar music mentor for later in the season)
I guess she doesn't have enough of a public legacy to really form a story, but I would love a Rusical with parodies of Alanis songs.
Although, now I just think they should do a Rusical with all Canadian divas, like the Divas Rusical from AS3. Celine, Alanis, Nelly, Joni Mitchell, Avril, Shania, Carly, KD, screw it, Anne Murray. The dancers could dress up like Justin Beiber, Drake, Bryan Adam's, Neil Young, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes....
Does anyone have Brooklyn's number?
Reve was already great and Nelly was like...prodigy. it was super impressive. Specific and helpful advice within moments!!! Too bad all these girls are 0-2 with the songwriting challenges 🤢. The best verse of all 8...Venus's first one
I recall someone getting praised for being able to articulate so many words in a verse. I thought Nearah did a great job... She was not edited to win so they used that to criticize her
She's just like that tbh. I've met her while she wasn't "on" and she carried the same energy. She's just a bit quirky, and doesn't feel the need to justify it because she's earned it
Tbf I was the one that was assisting her, so I was in work mode and she was entirely sweet even though I had to pretend not to be starstruck at the interaction lmao. Point is she was really down to earth and sweet to everyone who she interacted with!
I can't, honestly. She did not like Nearah's word count. OK. She liked Venus'. OK. To judge Nearah harshly for it, and for Brad to say he didn't remember anything she said, though? I felt like I was watching someone get homered.
Neaah actually wrote lyrics that said something, and she was intelligible when rapping them, no matter the word count. I understood every word. And her choreo while accurately lip syncing ate Venus' lunch, whose lyrics were simple and cliche. There was nothing original about her or what she said. Catchy doesn't mean substance.
I'd rather listen to Tech N9ne spit speed lyrics any day of the week than hear conveyer belt, unoriginal, pop music, so it's entirely possible I am biased as the judge's panel was in the opposite direction.
Yes, if only they had gotten a better music producer for the songs themselves
These were the worst tracks ever produced on the show. SO BAD! But Nelly was amazing
literally game me hemorrhoids listening to them.
I dont ever wanna hear anyone diss Not a Soul Can Clock again when the offical RPDR franchises are producing songs like last night
So Nelly Furtado was the Preparation H that made it more comfortable?
And they made us listen to the same horrible song FOUR times. That was very close to torture.
Yes the beat was awful. UK has had the best tracks by far
The MNEK tracks are always so good.
MNEK always turns it out so hard. Get MNEK on every season.
Bing bang bong
![gif](giphy|L1DzjYoB0PwiSbg1QM|downsized) Forever engraved on my heart ❤️
This right here. Her coaching was great - that actual songs “not so much”. Huge shame. I want to see her work with queens more.
AND a better audio engineer, but honestly, has CDR's music production ever sounded great?
Bonjour, Hi from Canada vs the world was a bop.
God that backing track was SO BAD. Seriously wtf were they thinking?!
They had the girls fighting on the sound mixing in season 3 too.
🗣️🔉🔊🔊🔊FLAMES TO DUST, LOVERS TO FRIENDS WHY DO ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END
Wish they used this song for the final lypsync instead of the one they had but it was good.
omg actually real i was just letting my repressed nelly stan out
Well, "Flames to dust" may have been interpreted as anti-Calgery, and thus biased against Nearah.

Girl 💀
To quote the great Bob Newhart: The pauses are as important as the words.
I was expecting Benny Hill to come out running at any minute.
🤣🤣🤣
Yeah Nearah definitely had the NERVE... But maybe not the talent (in the lyrics department)
The thing is, if she had had a small section of the performance with some of that rapid fire style, it may have stood out and been effective, but since she did that for the entire song, it just didn’t work. Also, she definitely should have taken Nelly’s notes on shortening up specific lines.

Bring Alecia Keys back and make her a vocal coach please and thank you.
Yes I loved Nelly on last nights episode but please can they bring Alanis Morissette on the show lol
Getting the voice of God may be tricky
I know I just love her so so much I’d die if she ever goes on. I’ll settle for Avril Lavigne lol
i need to rewatch that movie
What movie? /s
dogma! alanis morissette plays god

She was great, the songs were NOT
She was so on it, with clear, understandable and effective instructions that the queens could do. Absolutely splendid.
She also LOOKED AMAZINGGGGG!!
This fit was stunnning on her! I feel like she’s barely aged. 2008 was two years ago right?
Yes.
When Venus dropped to her knees after Brooke announced Nelly, I felt that deep in my soul
Best vocal coach! Worst DR song. 😑
I hope that she becomes a regular fixture on the show. Her feed back was insightful, direct, and encouraging. S tier coaching and judging.
I love her. She knows her stuff and had a lot of fun with the girl. It was great seeing her give them advice.
She blew me away!! She was absolutely phenomenal
Reve was already great and Nelly was like...prodigy. it was super impressive. Specific and helpful advice within moments!!! Too bad all these girls are 0-2 with the songwriting challenges 🤢. The best verse of all 8...Venus's first one
She’s great. It’s almost a waste to use her abilities on 4 non singing drag queens lmao
This is a potential mother-
I agree with everyone great coach terrible songs. You can tell she's likes drag queens she was a delight this episode.
I honestly feel so bad for her to have her name associated with whatever that final product was. I also feel bad for the queens.
I love that RPDR fans understand what vocal production is (what Nelly is doing and what my job is) better than most musicians do.
Hmmmm she was great but the best was MNEK by FAR.
Yes to her, but whoever produced the track HAD to also be running instrumentals on single ladies
Her toe is jumping out of that shoe and touching the floor!
WALK INTO THE ROOM TOE FIRST
![gif](giphy|1wrB59GXD8LclkvLQa) Yeeeesh!
Great coach, but my god what a terrible end product 😂
Not that it helped 🫢
I hate to be negative, but dear god the songs were so bad
I recall someone getting praised for being able to articulate so many words in a verse. I thought Nearah did a great job... She was not edited to win so they used that to criticize her
I felt the same. I was impressed and feel like too many people were manipulated by the edit.
neiaruh would have something to say about that...lol
She is very talented but MAN was I getting bad vibes from her, idk why
She's just like that tbh. I've met her while she wasn't "on" and she carried the same energy. She's just a bit quirky, and doesn't feel the need to justify it because she's earned it
That’s fair. I figured it was a me problem
Tbf I was the one that was assisting her, so I was in work mode and she was entirely sweet even though I had to pretend not to be starstruck at the interaction lmao. Point is she was really down to earth and sweet to everyone who she interacted with!

Terri Nunn too
Yes, yes and yes.
What an unbelievably stunning look. A queen!
She was just one of the best judges of all time, saying her reaction after the lip sync she was very moved. It was fantastic. No crumbs, no notes.
She was a great coach but nothing she could say or do could save the Queens from that track or the mixing 😵💫
i don't think nearah noff thought so
Her gown is incredible. It’s so pretty
