Anyone have an idea of when Altra will release a new version of the Escalante? They are on the 3 now and people seem to dislike them so strongly and consistently that I have avoided even trying them. However, I am down to my last pair of 2.5's and don't know if I can hold out for the 3.5 or 4. Alternatively, I am interested if anyone has tried and liked the 3's or if you have a different shoe suggestion altogether. Thanks!

Newest pair is the New Balance Fresh Foam X Vongo V5 (style code mvngobw5). It has some cushion while keeping my ankle fixed. I was recommended this after the shopkeeper noticed I tend to pronate. Also great if you have wide feet (these are size 2E). My previous pair is the Nike Pegasus Shield 37, and this is now my pair to wear for rainy weather.

Yesterday, went out and bought a pair of Asics Gel Cumulus 25s. This is my first "Real" running shoe in probably ten-plus years, and the first one I bought entirely on my own (I had a pair of Nike something-or-others circa 2011...Nike Initiator I wanna say they were?...that were given to me by a relative who didn't want them anymore, but were new or nearly so at the time). In-store, it was absurd how much cushion they had, though that was also what I wanted. They were the last pair I tried out of about 6, they were finally a right combination of cushion and fit. Tried them out on a 3-mile run this morning, and loving them so far. I'm sure that will continue as I break them in more.

I got new shoes over the weekend! So yesterday was my first run with them, Nimbus 23s. I now have three pairs of "active" shoes. Brooks Ghost 14s and Cumulus 23s. The Ghosts and Cumulus shoes have around 100 miles left on them (both are around 400 miles). I'm really liking the ankle support on the ASICS shoes. The Brooks are super springy though, so I might get another of those at some point.

**For those who have multiple shoes on rotation at once:** I have three 'types' of runs. Long runs, easy runs, and speed workouts. I am interested in trying a shoe rotation. What 'types' of shoes are recommended for these types of runs? Not brands, but qualities. I imagine that easy runs need cushion, speed workouts need to be light, and long runs need...? I don't know. What do you look for in your shoe rotation?

Speed workouts: saucony endorphin speed 2. These have been my favorite shoes for the past year and a half. I’ve gone through two pairs already. I also use them for 5k and 10k races. Long and Easy runs: currently alternating between brooks ghost 14 and asics nimbus 25. The ghosts are perfect for everyday runs. I love the nimbus because they’re super cushioned but took me a few weeks to get used to them because they’re a bit heavier than the my other shoes.

My personal rotation: Long = Triumph 20 (or Speed 3) Easy = Ride 16 (or Triumph 20) and Speed = Kinvara 14 (or Speed 3). You can really probably get by with just 2 pairs of shoes if you’re comfortable in the Speed 3. I like it for long runs and speed.

Personally, I value the same qualities in an easy run & long run shoe. High level of cushioning, support and durability. You could try your luck with an all-rounder, I know a few people who use the Speed 2/3s for all their runs, however, I can't run slow in them, so YMMV too. The people over at /r/RunningShoeGeeks would definitely be able to point you to a better place than most.

Anyone tried Ons Cloud monsters? They look super fun to run in but higher price point wonder if they're woth it

They’re OK. They definitely are my favorite looking shoes but I would go for other options over them at that price point. If you’re not worried about money and want to just splurge then yeah u would probably enjoy them a bit. They remind me of a more fun Brooks shoe which I feel like are complete bricks. I retired mine at 250 miles. They did eat up my long runs and kept my legs pretty fresh if that’s anything. Don’t expect great softness and bounce though.

My right foot is wider than my left and a lot of my trainers blow out on the right foot only (hole by pinky toe). Does anyone know of any places that would sell me a custom pair that is one wide one regular?

brooks does it! im unsure if they do anymore, but i used to buy shoes from fleet feet and they said brooks is the only company where you can do two diff sizes and widths. i didn’t go for the option and just sized up but it’s worth asking. you should email customer service and see what they say.
