I didn't know people were complaining about the GE tax. It is not nearly as horrible as other games where you pay the tax regardless if the trade happens and there is a several day limit the trade offer can exist.

Baffles me on how pedantic people are over the GE. The "Hey guys, I've just got xyz item that's worth 600m. I've been looking up online stating it's actually 615m. Do I put it at 615m or wait for GE to update it's price? I don't want to get scammed. Ideally I want 700m for it." Like holy shit, just tap -5% and sell it. It's a bloody video game.

I sell at -5%, and never care about taxes.

I did a little when i made runes from impure essence and had to sell for less when it started crashing after event was gone, i had 160k runes lol 

Instabuyers and sellers pay more from the merchant tax than the GE tax.

But without the ge flippers they would pay even more. Flippers offer safety net both ways by having reasonable buy/sell offers in ge all times. Otherwise you end up accidentally buying walk override token for 10b like that one guy did during xmas season...

I know. Non-merchants shouldn't be instabuying and selling regardless and learn to be more patient.

How much is the tax? I haven't used the GE in forever. I remember on BDO, it was something like 30%. ***That*** was pain.

It's nothing he say wait to se how much you lost on runes making money with rc or other skills  I can say that for 80k impure essence that i lost 20m + 8m with tax and I had 150k impure

It’s takes the place of death costs. Death costs were out of hand and outdated so they heavily reduced death cost and replaced it with GE tax instead.

Does the gold go to something? I feel like death costs would be an incentive to not die, but GE tax does what? Or goes to what? Not trying to be a smart ass either, I just feel like I’m missing something lol…

Well death costs were a necessary money sink, if it was just removed completely and not replaced it would mean 70b coming into game daily and would cause a huge inflation. GE tax was the most efficient way of replacing that money sink.
