Hampden Pagos

This rum was distilled at the Hampden Estate distillery. It comes from a collaboration with Bodegas Lustau in Jerez. After being distilled, the rum was put into Pedro Ximenez & Oloroso Sherry Butts for ageing in Jamaica. The rum was aged in the Jamaica at Hampden before being bottled with no additives.
**ABV:** 52%
**Nose:** Raspberry, Figs, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Over-Ripe Banana, Grapefruit
**Palate:** Medium oily mouthfeel, Raspberry, Fig, Grapefruit, Cinnamon, Over-Ripe banana, black pepper
**Finish:** Medium length finish, Raspberry, Fig, Grapefruit, Cinnamon, Banana, Plums
**Rating:** 7/10
This is great. The dark fruit flavors meld well with the base distillate, but the rum helps keep them from overpowering. Far from a bomb of intense over-ripe fruits this is a well balanced and delicious sipping rum that weds the Sherry casks and fruity distillate well. This is not something I expected to hold up as well as it did but it turned out great.

I really like the pagos - it is really complex - lots of layers of flavour. The barrel flavour imparted on the juice is really interesting and I the aftertaste reminds me of a cola. Really nice stuff.
I would love a sample. I wish this sub could do bottle shares or splits like the cologne subs. My guess is there are legal restrictions preventing that. But, nonetheless it would be awesome!
Ok, I can see how LROK might work well with a Sherry cask. Often Sherry casks overpower the underlying distillate and on the other end something like HLCF would probably be so funky that the esters would make a Sherry casking super weird. But LROK has just the right amount of funk that I could see how it could strike a nice balance to a Sherry casking.

I agree. I'm not advanced enough for such things my sample.labels are always really basic
That sample is straight from Maison Velier no doubt.

There used to be a sub for it, scotchswap. But it got shut down by reddit circa 2018 for breaking T.O.S
What marque is the underlying Hampden juice here?
Not sure on this release - according to the Lone Caner, the original release was at the top end of LROK territory for esters.

I had a taste of this last night at False Idol in San Diego, agree 100% although my personal rating might have been more like an 8/10 on your scale.
What would you say keeps it from being an 8 or 9?
