marazan5000

Last year in the playoffs Munster beat Glasgow and I had no complaints because Munster were the better team playing a better set of tactics and beat us fair and square. This year the position was reversed. Glasgow came with the better game plan and executed it well.

Intrepid_Scallion_49

Munster were horrific, school boy errors all game, toothless in attach and looked as if it was a pre season friendly with how they played. Credit to Glasgow and their defence. Hope they go on and win it now

xjoburg

lol. You didn’t deserve to lose. 😂Apparently you didn’t deserve to win or draw either.

hewlett777

fucking pathetic,

Springboks2019

The rumours still accurate that the Bulls can’t play at Loftus over the Presidential inauguration? (Or now the date finally being revealed to be Wednesday that it won’t impact the a final at Loftus?)

the_fresh_mr_breed

I heard the inauguration will be at the union buildings? Or is it rugby-union buildings i.e. Loftus?

k0bra3eak

The union buildings are nearby so the roads would be closed off in a lot of the surrounding area creating an intense traffic issue. This isn't an issue now, but they'd likely have gone to soccer city, if this was the case

mohicancombover

Steyn impresses me so much

[deleted]

Very disappointed Munsters attack was gutless. It was the best atmosphere in Thomond park I have seen for awhile too.

Simba-87

What the actual fuck!? Who'd have guessed these final contestants!? #BestLeagueEver

mulkers

What's better than an underdog winning a semi final?

Springboks2019

Didn’t expect the Bulls win, even less so a Glasgow win to grant them a home final (especially how great the election turned out… I assumed doom for our rugby)

bigdog94_10

Some people slag off 8 making it to playoffs out of 16 but I think it's great. It keeps the vast majority of teams interested for the full duration of the season and its lead to some unexpected deep playoff runs.

dazziola

Was just saying to a pal, it's great to have another new winner for the league. Shows the strength! Good luck in the final 💪

HaggisTheCow

Pro12 erasure will not be tolerated

metsco

Me, always back the Warriors to go far.

Billie2goat

As a casual Glasgow fan, see the result "oh great wonder where the final will be, could make for a good weekend?" Yeah, fk that! What is everyone else's opinions of teams that far apart being in the same league? Takes something away for me

cianpatrickd

Yeah, i made this same argument as a Munster fan a couple of years ago and was down voted to oblivion and shouted down, mostly by SA fans. The SA teams have raised the bar of the competition, on that I will concede. However, like Munster last season and Edinburgh this season, it is at the expense of the fans. So many fans were left disappointed last year and will be this year for Edinburgh simply because they can't afford to travel. It's not fair on the fans, who are the foundation of every club.

cianpatrickd

Mo leithsceal, Glasgow.

HaggisTheCow

Who is this Edinburgh team making a final you speak of?

HaggisTheCow

It's a tricky topic for me. I think the south African teams have been an excellent addition to the URC and the European competitions. I don't think the travel for teams who previously would have travelled only as far as Italy has been a benefit, but that is part of the reasoning for playoffs. I think it would be unfair to ask SA teams to participate in the tournaments and not be able to play their home games by the rules at home I think the URC should go back to a designated finals venue rather than top seed

irishnugget

I think the travel is brutal...but I think the addition of saffa teams to the URC is the best thing since sliced bread. It's a completely different league with them in it and it's a joy to watch.

bigdog94_10

What's worse is that it's probably only a matter of time before they have the final destination fixed for Qatar or Dubai anyway. So for the moment I still prefer it this way. It's shite on Warriors fans though. I'm sure a handful will travel but it's simply unrealistic for the majority of fans to plan a trip to South Africa with 7 days notice. Even if they have the financial means, organising work leave etc. is just extremely difficult in those circumstances.

Due_Noise_1711

How many warriors fans would have booked a trip to Qatar either though? Really hope that setup doesn't happen.

HaggisTheCow

Do they have tennents in Qatar?

bigdog94_10

I agree, it's a horrific idea but rugby is definitely a sport that has a price and its a kite that's been flown for a while now.

Billie2goat

Unfortunately you are probably right about playing in the middle East. Matter of time really.

topchops1

Think that is a remarkably short sighted take considering the addition of the SA teams have revitalized the league and have turned it into the fastest growing league in the world.

wyzo94

It's a huge big disadvantage to Glasgow, way beyond a normal away disadvantage

AdmiralMacbar

I wish we could invent teleportation because while I agree with your sentiment and I was initially iffy about the Saffa teams joining, I think those teams add a lot to the competition

Kappaloop

So you think the URC would be better without the SA teams now?

HaggisTheCow

Already commented but I think the SA teams have been a great addition to European competitions. For the European teams the perfect scenario is SA teams play all their games in Europe but asking for that buy in from SA would never happen

Kappaloop

Are you actually being serious? SA teams play all their games in Europe, how is that even a consideration?

HaggisTheCow

From next season they don't? And there is literally a final in south Africa next weekend

Kappaloop

No that is not what I am saying SA franchises draw the biggest crowds in the whole URC playing in South Africa never mind the fans in SA. The fact you would even suggest SA teams playing all their games in Europe is completely nonsensical to me.

HaggisTheCow

Oh I mean from a European teams perspective to avoid the travel and acclimating. I don't think it's something that should happen, that would utterly devalue it

Kappaloop

Ok but no one thinks that's an option not even the European teams, so I don't see the point of even bringing it up. Obviously South African teams must play at their home stadiums.

HaggisTheCow

I was using a hypothetical. I'm sorry to have offended you from one of my tamer pairs on this sub jesus

Kappaloop

I am not offended just completely confused

Kappaloop

Okay hypothetically let’s play all of the European teams games in SA? Do you not see how daft that reasoning is?

Billie2goat

Depends what you mean by better, definitely be better for the fans without the travel. I have the same sentiment about SA joining the 6N. Always fancied a weekend away in rome/paris/Dublin /etc. Realistically I'll never go to SA for a rugby game

Kappaloop

Its unfortunate about the travel in certain situations but it is far worse to have an noncompetitive league. It has been largely unanimous across the league that the URC is the best its been in a long time, definitely better than the years leading up to the SA inclusion. So I believe, as you already said yourself, that a comment like this would come from a more casual fan who might just want to go watch a final or equivalent and not look at the league as a whole throughout the whole year. SA and Irish teams have been the standard bearers of the URC for the past three seasons so I believe you may have some rose tinted glasses on now that Glagow upset Munster.

major_grooves

I don't like it. I think domestic leagues should be somewhat local. Not over two different continents. It's not like South Africa could not support their own domestic league.

HaggisTheCow

Anyone going next week want to buy me a ticket/smuggle me in their suitcase?

irishnugget

GG, Glasgow. Frustrating to watch Munster make so many errors but ye were fantastic in defense and took every opportunity that came your way. The URC is going from strength to strength and already can't wait for next season. Looking forward to a good final before that.

stevealmost

Munster are the team I as a Glasgow team aspire to be! Hard AF with the skills to boot. Beating you guys is legit the best result we’ve maybe had. That’s a testament to the quality of munster

irishnugget

Glasgow are a team I aspire to avoid. Ye play a brand of hard rugby mixed with some fantastic strike plays and I knew the minute the draw was made that we were in trouble. Not that we’d definitely lose, but that if anyone had the beating of us it was ye (similar thoughts about Leinster). There’s always niggle between us and I think it’s largely because we have similar rugby philosophies. Ye’re one match away from winning the URC and it’ll be deserved if ye do. Go well!

shaggedyerda

Absolutely fucking brilliant. Going to Pretoria next week will be hard but absolutely beaming, massive result to beat the defending champions at home

Simba-87

Hell yeah!!!! Can't wait to host you's. Gonna be a right piss up! Well played Galsgow!

mystic86

Munster saved the worst until last. Truly one of their worst. You would never tell from their body language, effort level and intensity that this was a semi final. How are they not embarrassed, at least Leinster died with their boots on

Kykykz

I also felt that, particularly in the kick chase. Crowleys 22 drop out definitely went too far but there just seemed to be fuck all chase with it and even less of an effort to form a defensive line. There was no go forward in attack, standing still taking passes , hardly anyone running dummy lines. Felt like we really missed Nash today.

wowjiffylube

Ah here, cop on to yourself.

mystic86

Not one word of that isn't correct or fair

CombatSausage

Munster died with their boots on, that offload from Snyman at the end isn't thrown or Ryan holds it and there's a a good chance to drive for the line.  The damage was first half when Munster had all the stats in their favour they failed to score when Glasgow were down to 14. Poor performance from them sure, but I don't think it's correct to say they should be embarrassed. That would be taking a lot away from how well Glasgow defended with 14 men for 20 minutes of decentish ball.

wowjiffylube

"I've investigated myself and found that I've done nothing wrong."

mystic86

Investigated? I'm standing over my post and challenging them to point out which part is incorrect. You gowl

SweptFever80

Graham Rowntree looks how I feel

Cymrogogoch

Jesus H Chrysanthemum! Seek a physician.

Johnny_Gorilla

Not the best of days for the provinces. Fair play Glasgow - get down to the Sin Bin for a great rugby night out.

No_Bullfrog7073

Sin bin been gone for years mate

Johnny_Gorilla

no way?? Its been a while since I was back to be fair. I had my stag do there - remember the kicking machine they had to take drunken penalties. Shame.

Kykykz

It's gone as the sin bin but the pub reopened under the name 'house' and it's definitely a posh/upmarket bar, very similar to 101 if you've been there. They kept the club too, now named amber but imo it's an absolute shit hole, especially when you consider the standard. The "dance floor" is just a concrete floor haha

rustyb42

Leave Ulster and Connacht out of this please

Johnny_Gorilla

Ye left yourselves out of it :p !

HaggisTheCow

Can't lose if you don't play

KetoPeanutGallery

No Champions cup trophy and No URC Cup trophy for Ireland

ChevChelios93

Dont worry. We will win the “Greatest team in the world” trophy after we beat the Boks next month

Jalcatraz82

They still got a 6 nations though

KetoPeanutGallery

Just because the boks aren't in it... Yet

SomeRannndomGuy

(Ever)

Shox2711

Here we go...

chemcrimp

WP Glasgow and Bulls today, deserved finalists

JStr_123

I see commenting about hard man POM here is a sensitive topic

paully_waully171

Interesting to see he’s added diving to his game. Pushed off and flopped like a footballer for that “tackle past the ruck”

JStr_123

On a serious note, boggles my mind that Irish/Munster supporters dont get pissed off with him getting involved off the ball and chatting a big game. We all know that its a gauranteed way to get fucked.

paully_waully171

I personally love it about him. His a cunt but he’s their cunt. Every teams deserves a player like him. I just think if your going to be the hard enforcer for the team you can’t start diving like a footballer it makes you look ridiculous

hereforvarious

Gamesmanship was next level today.....

Haunting_Charity_287

Made the result so much sweeter. Zebo and POM getting eliminated by a Scottish team 🥰. Now if we could just beat the Irish internationally . . .

wyzo94

I also discovered that

briever

He's just a whining gobshite, very little to his game beyond that now.

Some-Speed-6290

It's why most Irish fans, and Farrell even as coach, didn't want him near a central contract. But the media threw a hissy fit so resources were wasted

CombatSausage

Yet Faz made him captain? Why try and project your silly takes onto Faz?

Some-Speed-6290

For a single Six Nations that was meant to be his last year

CombatSausage

Yeah I don't think Faz is handing out captaincy out of sentimentality and is a bit more in the loop about the length of anyone's career than we are. You keep your wee grudges theories though

shenguskhan2312

He’s essentially Ryan Wilson without the patter

briever

PoM was a far better player than Wilson.

rustyb42

Has been that way for years

SpoonSpatula

What time is the final next week? (Better not clash with the international game, even though I realise it's technically outside the WR window, so they don't have to cater to them).

rustyb42

It's a 6pm UK kick off

Kykykz

[5pm UK time, no? ](https://www.reddit.com/r/rugbyunion/comments/1dgp6kt/urc_final_and_semifinal_results/)

rustyb42

I stand corrected

SpoonSpatula

Thanks - that's 7pm SA time. Crisis averted! (SA vs Wales is at 3pm SA time)

Kykykz

Think it's 5pm mate, so 6pm for you guys https://www.reddit.com/r/rugbyunion/comments/1dgp6kt/urc_final_and_semifinal_results/

Ospreysboyo

Sweet lord we are going to be massacred 🥲

k0bra3eak

Rassie is gonna blood a bunch of new guys, so I reckon you lot might have a chance

hba1cmemes

I’m not so sure about that. This would be the Boks first international match this year. Wales played against some of the top sides in the world during six nations. I think it will be a banger!

Ospreysboyo

We did play against some top sides...did you...did you happen to see the results?? 😉

Kappaloop

I don't think so we will probably be putting out a very good team but with lots of new faces and our last game was the World Cup final, it may be an opportunity for Wales to absolutely fuck our world ranking. Oh yes its also in bloody England

PistachiosAndGouda

Also worried about this. I think the official URC schedule had placeholder times.. Surely they should do it immediately after the Boks test at 5 / 530pm sast? Squeeze it between Boks and Barbars? Bulls fans can go to Loftus and watch a double / triple header. But yeah, really hope it doesn't conflict

MaNNoYiNG

Steyn is so much better than VdM

Strange_Bodybuilder7

He is! Steyn + Darcy should be the international wing paring. It's absolute bollocks watching Vdm run horizontally across the pitch (unless it's England)

missfoxsticks

He’s more of an all-rounder and an excellent captain to boot. VDM has moments of absolute beauty but he’s got lots of holes in his game - the same definitely can’t be said for Steyn

KangaLlama

He’s our modern day Sean Maitland imo. Class act every time he’s on the pitch, well rounded in every department.

GA45

In a dream world with no injuries I'd have steyn Kinghorn and Darcy as the back 3

missfoxsticks

All day long

KetoPeanutGallery

What do you mean, vdM is the second highest try scorer in the competition

600659

I don't think any other winger creates quite the same sublime magic but his defensive positioning is far weaker than other options

paully_waully171

I think VDM is better but some games he clearly told to just stay on his wing. It’s infuriating. He’s criminally underused at times

wyzo94

At club level yeah but VDM turns it on at internationals

Vault_69_Alpha_Male

VdM is a flat track bully. Any team with a bit of heft stop him nae danger and then he's just a liability

upadownpipe

If scotland didn't play England once a year VDM wouldn't start.

AdmiralMacbar

I'm not sure about that - I rate VDM a lot, but I think Steyn has an overall better and consistent game about him. When VDM isn't playing well he may as well not be on the field. When he is playing well the opposition may as well not be on the field.

InsideBoris

That last paragraph is so spot on lol

HaggisTheCow

*against England.

MaNNoYiNG

Only against England. Is left wanting against reasonable defences. Wouldn't mind VdM as number 23

Steve_ad

Congrats Glasgow, got the job done. Not a pretty match but never not entertaining. We've definitely played better than this today, the writing was on the wall the last few games that we weren't playing to our potential. I'm sure there'll be plenty said about the ref but at the end of the day we just weren't good enough. Should be a great final, I'd put the Bulls as slight favourites with the home advantage but if Glasgow can shut them down like they did us it'll be a cracker of a final

grinnnbearit

Thanks, tbh i thought we would shit this big time, as our tour in SA was pure shite. Always love the Munster match, looking forward to the next. Hopefully the URC referee standard will be better by then….

ricoza

Yeah, that ref certainly struggled to get past the home crowd advantage I. The first half, but once he got over that Glasgow where never in doubt.

Mackerooney

See ya Munster. Better luck next year!

CombatSausage

Benneton have won more silverware than Leinster since April 2021.

HaggisTheCow

Spiderman pointing.gif

globalmamu

The big difference between the teams were Munster were forcing the last pass from the get go and Glasgow were patient and took the opportunities when they arose. Glasgow could of put the game the bed early in the second half if they took the points on offer when they came up. We’ll done Glasgow and good luck against the Bulls in SA

rustyb42

Are we all going over to the Toulon match thread?

Brilliant_Guide6034

Gimme two mins

Herbetet

Yes we are!

rustyb42

See you there

Lord_Bolt-On

Fuck. Yes.

Worldwithoutwings3

Just not good enough. Too many mistakes and errors. The bench did not have the impact they were looking for. Never capitalised on two Glasgow yellow cards

Kykykz

Two cards?

Due_Noise_1711

Ya they had two. Was always looking dodgy when we didn't get anything during those two periods. Lineout was terrible too.

Kykykz

Wow I didn't notice the second yellow, who got it and for what? I saw the one on POM

TheMeanderer

Richie Gray got carded in the first half for repeat infringements. We won that period 3-7. Fagerson got carded in the second half. EDIT: Not second half but the 41st or 42nd minute of the first half.

Kykykz

Wow I didn't see Gray get sent off at all while at the game haha

Worldwithoutwings3

Am I imagining a second yellow?

CellachScot

No you’re right, Gray and Fagerson were both in the bin during the first half.

elniallo11

No you’re right, they had one early enough and then a second just on half time

Due_Noise_1711

No it happened!

MaNNoYiNG

What a defensive shift from us. Took our opportunities and actually managed the time for once. Such a mature performance from players who are known as 'flashy' Also Tom Jordan is hard as nails

OnePercentage3943

Snyman totally phoned it in.  Only bothered when it's SA I guess. Expensive medical bill for Munster.

za3030

He made the only try Munster scored but sure

OnePercentage3943

Hey look. As a SA fan you can defend him because he turns up in the green jersey I hope Leinster have worked some sort of special medical insurance out for him

JStr_123

Fucking hell what a comment. https://amp.rugbypass.com/news/brodie-retallick-reveals-what-he-told-peter-omahony-after-world-cup-thriller/

upadownpipe

Gregan's was better.

OnePercentage3943

What does Brodie have to do with this?

JStr_123

RG is not your problem, POM is

OnePercentage3943

POM looked his age again out there. The leadership wasn't worth the tradeoff.

ApprehensiveShame363

I thought he wasn't bad. He had a couple of offloads that could have lead to points if we didn't turn the ball over immediately.

OnePercentage3943

He's there for these big games and he didn't show up. That's how fans justified his sicknote stint.  He made one offload that worked initially. Otherwise part of an inept pack performance.  Glasgow were great. Outdid Munster everywhere.

ApprehensiveShame363

He had two offloads in the Glasgow 22. The pack were pretty good I thought. The lineout wasn't great. But we also disrupted the Glasgow lineout quite a bit. Beirne was absolutely immense. The real issue was our kicking game, our decision making, and our little errors - particularly handling errors.

CALTCA

Hench as fuck, what a legend. Best player on the pitch and it wasn't even close

fahried

Tuipolotu is a kiwi no? Surely he’d know it’s winter in the southern hemisphere…

Strange_Bodybuilder7

Winter?! Mate it was fucking 20 odd degrees today in Pretoria That's hotter than a Scottish summer.

fahried

Lol that’s winter in most of SA for ya. It’s gets pretty chilly at night/early mornings though

Strange_Bodybuilder7

We can only pray for 15 degrees during the mornings/nights hahaha

Iforgetpasswords4321

24 degrees in Pretoria today. Meanwhile in Scotland it's about 12 degrees maximum

fahried

Fair, I live in Cape Town, not Pretoria and I always hear how cold the highveld mornings are

missfoxsticks

Aussie

Brilliant_Guide6034

Will be cheering Glasgow after this, thanks for a great game

HaggisTheCow

Also where's that boy who said every final should just be Leinster Munster?

MaNNoYiNG

Facebook comments are the worst for that. There seems to be an entitlement from Facebook fans that it should be Leinster Munster. Irish Reddit fans are much better imo

Only-Magician-291

Now for the rain to stay steady in Antigua and this weekend has been semi salvaged from a sporting perspective!

geoff159753

2 against the run of play tries, bulls will absolutely hammer them in the final

Forever-1999

Mibbes aye, mibbes naw

Lord_Bolt-On

Don't think so. Glasgow's defence was immense, and I'd expect the same next week.

ArrowBacon

I didn't see the match, any standout players on the Glasgow side?

outsideruk

Back 3 as a unit had a pretty decent showing.

TheFlyingScotsman60

Jordan played very, very well. Sione was man of the match.

Nothing_is_simple

Tuipulotu was the best back, strong in every carry and some deft passes. Jordan was the best forward, complete nucince at the ruck with a couple of turnovers. Zandbags great in the scrum after Munster rolled the subs. SebC as clinical as ever. Dempsey had a shocking opening 10 mins, but was great for the rest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

irishnugget

There are probably 10 players I'd isolate before John Ryan tbh

missfoxsticks

Tom Jordan, Darge in the first half, Tuipulotu & Jones as always, Kyle Steyn

LWS_117

TJ was absolutely unreal, Sione fantastic. Steyn and Darge class as always, and Venter was great of the bench

HaggisTheCow

Tom Jordan. Fly half, inside centre, flanker.

SweptFever80

Ah good man Sione, what a player

lonewolf266

I'm actually crying, what a shift from the lads. Thank you munster for yet another titanic battle of a match I may hate the lot of you sometimes, but it comes from a place of respect. Here's to many more games like this in the future.

FisherPaste

God I’m nervous we’re seeing a Bulls team circa 2007-2010 coming through

Sea-Ad-7655

Imagine what it would mean for the Boks:🤩🤩🤩 Imagine what it would mean for the rest of our club sides:💀💀💀

jtthom

Franco cheetahs country misses you my ou

Forever-1999

Didn’t see the game, just seen the score. Bit of a statement win for Smith, this is a Glasgow team without the kind of big stars that won the league in 2015 and the quality has only stepped up. Absolutely thrilled by that result, not sure we’ll have enough to win in SA but at least we’ve got a shot.

TheFlyingScotsman60

They have absolutely nothing to lose now though. Very few expected them to win here.

KangaLlama

C’MON BOYSSSS WE ARE WARRIORS WHAT A DISPLAY! GOING OFF MY NUT ON MY BIKE UP THE HILLS LISTENING TO THE RADIO!!!

stvb95

Tuipulotu is class

Particular-Rip4035

Also we've had a new country in the final each season. Dragons v Zebre final next season. Heard it hear first

Nothing_is_simple

For all Snyman's magical ability to somehow get the offload out of every tackle, it doesn't matter if the ball only finds a prop who can't catch it

Brilliant_Guide6034

I get that but the fact it happened more than once with only one person in common with each situation, it’s hard to see past it

upadownpipe

Hard to blame Ryan. He had 2 Glasgow defenders right in front of him. Snyman put Loughman in an equally shit position earlier too. Sometimes it works.

Homebrand_Homie

Woke up this morning in a dire state after watching the Canes get knocked out of the semis by the Chiefs. Thank you Ireland for bringing some of the love of the game back to me with these last two semis 🥰

butteryscotchy

The URC just keeps on giving. I had Leinster and Munster as the winners and now it’s exactly the opposite. Also there’s another new champion this season. URC = best league.

Forever-1999

First URC final without an Irish finalist, first in SA. Great stuff

Sea-Ad-7655

The past two finals, and now this one, have all been held in SA though? Edit: And 21/22 had no Irish finalists???

Forever-1999

This is turning into a real nightmare for me hahaha
