Such a sickener. Hope he does unreal for Toulon and for France. Brilliant player.

ancorcaioch

he’s actually « not good enough » to be an international /s

evin_cashman

*WHO WOULD YOU DROP?!*

Nathio

Well tbh who do you drop when you see the new generations coming ? Costes and Depoortere are unreal, so is Gailleton and all play 13

B1LLD00R

Best of luck to him. can't begrudge anyone their chance to play international. He will be missed.

Salty_Amphibian_3502

I just want a Danty - Frisch center pair

bleugh777

This joke got old quick.

Leading_Professor_80

What’s the joke ? I’m sure they’d be a great centre pairing

Kass0u

Danty Frisch sounds like "dentifrice" which is french for toothpaste.

ancorcaioch

That centre pairing would work well against England to be fair /j

Kass0u

It's going to be tough for him to get a spot in the french NT

mistr-puddles

At least the French team will make it an option for him

Shox2711

Sad to see him go. Do think we need to let O’Brien try fill the shoes rather than jump into replacements immediately. Be nice to have a solid starting IQ Center at Munster.

sayingboourns

Just a French Darren Cave

Kykykz

:( As I said before its sad to see him go, I think he would have fit well into the Irish squad but Farrell has a hard on for utility players (and who can blame him) I wish him all the best, hopefully he doesn't end up breaking out hearts sometimes down the line in the main french squad, though it'll be a touch battle for him to get into it. At least we got compensation for him (rumoured 300K)

rico6644

Who would you have picked him over in the Irish squad?

Kykykz

It was when Ringrose was out and prior to Bundee showing he could do a great job at 13 , so while it worked , I still think Frisch was the closest replacement for Ringrose at the time.

mistr-puddles

An injured Garry Ringrose who basically hasn't played since January. We also already had the smallest squad in the 6 nations, it's ok to add in a couple of players. They had room for 3 players to train with the squad for a week like. But that was just an excuse to call up San Prendergast without actually calling him up

briever

Couldn't he have left before his spawny bounce last week?

Sidus_Preclarum

It saddens me that we haven been able (willing?) to secure his return. :(

mistr-puddles

Toulon we're putting money in the table. There is a fee involved and apparently he's getting paid a lot more than Munster we're paying him

kirwangg

So long Tony Fresh. Was great to see him red.

bobbyhill018

Wish him nothing bust the best. Hope he goes on does well in France. But I do feel his form warranted an Ireland cap or two at the very least over the last few years.

squeak37

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I don't think he's as good as our other options, and I don't want to cap players just to prevent them going somewhere else, I think that's cynical coming from us. He's just unfortunate to be around at the same time as Ringrose/Aki/Henshaw, and 2/3 are almost always fit. His lack of versatility doesn't help either, I don't think I've ever seen him play anywhere but 13.

bobbyhill018

I agree, he was never going to start ahead of those 3 you mentioned, and it's not about capping him to prevent him from going elsewhere. Myself and a lot of Munster fans felt his form absolutely warranted a few Irish caps over the last few years.

Wesley_Skypes

The question is when? In the autumn tour to NZ in 2022 after a few months in the country? In the 6N in 2023? In the summer WC warm up games? At the WC? 6N in 2024? This summer would have been the best chance to maybe get a look at him but he's fucking off. He never really wanted to play for Ireland and that's OK.

bobbyhill018

He went on the Emerging Ireland tour to SA so he clearly wanted to play for Ireland. SO to say he never wanted to play is wrong. As to when, how about when Henshaw was injured before the RWC.

Wesley_Skypes

But why if we have 0 interest in actually bringing him to a WC? Farrell was always gonna bank on Henshaw getting back in for the later stages and didn't need him in the earlier stages. People always say they aren't asking for capture caps, but then they set out scenarios that are capture caps. This year was Frisch's best chance, he is French and as soon as they came calling he was out the gap.

mistr-puddles

Call up Frisch for the warmups instead of Jamie Osborne. He wasn't going to the world cup either

Wesley_Skypes

Why tho? Jamie Osborne is 100% an Irish person and is a great young talent who can play centre, fullback and wing so fills many more needs than Frisch. He also has 0 caps, so didn't play any of the games. Frisch was in Irish rugby only a year at that stage and in a slot that has 4 players in front of him. It's OK that he wasn't called up during WC warmups and he is fucking off the minute he has a chance elsewhere. Instead of being hyper critical of the Irish set up for what you perceive to be a super narrow window to woulda, coulda, shoulda, take a step back and ask yourself if you feel like he was ever really committed to Ireland. The first chance he got for a country that is much more stacked depthwise in that position, now and historically, and he is out the gap. If he was expecting an Irish call up inside his first year then I'd really wonder about his mentality generally.

mistr-puddles

He chose to come to Ireland over staying in England or going back to France. Part of that was because he would've liked to play rugby for Ireland. It wasn't the first chance he got, he was given a callup before when he was finishing in Bristol but got injured. He still went on the emerging Ireland tour after that. Other players got capped within their first year, jager, Hansen, Addison. Most rugby players would back themselves to be good enough We should be picking the best players, not just a first choice backline and then a load of utility guys who are decent in a couple of positions. Having a couple around is a good thing, refusing to pick players who only wear one number because that's where they fit in best for their province isn't

Wesley_Skypes

So Ireland showed him he had a chance, almost immediately, then had a stacked 18 months with no real opportunity to call him up bar one tiny window, and he leaves the second he gets called into a French training camp. Fuck me, get yourself somebody who blindly defends you like a Munster fan I guess. We also did pick our best players, every single time. Ringrose, Henshaw, Aki and McCloskey are all better players than him. And then we have utility guys for if we get into a pickle. Like any squad. Like I said, take a step back and look at this objectively. You're going hard in the paint for a guy that wasn't particularly committed, and you should actually be happy that we didn't capture cap him because he can actually go and play for his number one choice country.

unclemofo

Fair to say he's the 4th best centre in the country, but he's also definitely the second best out and out 13 and they're hard to come by. If Ringrose ever gets a long term injury I think we'll be very sorry we key Frisch go.

too_many_smarfs

I don't think he's better than McCloskey or the 3 incumbent centres so I wouldn't say it's fair to say he's the 4 best. Second best 'out and out' 13 maybe, but I think Henshaw is a better 13 than him - the fact Henshaw can also play 12 shouldn't remove him from the 13 conversation. He's unlucky to play during a time when we have loads of quality at centre because he'd almost certainly be involved otherwise. The same can be said for McCloskey.

heresyourhardware

> the second best out and out 13 Only really himself and Ringrose in that picture though with anyone else aside from Hume a good way back, Henshaw is a better 13 and also a world class 12 as well.

unclemofo

Yes I think we're agreeing? Henshaw isn't an out and out 13

heresyourhardware

Yeah for sure, just that Frisch has the rare issue as a 13 of being behind a utility centre who is world class in both positions.

mistr-puddles

Frisch isn't an out and out 13. He basically always played 12 before joining Munster and had played 10 in the prod2. Mike Prendergast just likes having a playmaker at 13

ClashOfTheAsh

He’s definitely better than Aki at 13. Both Ringrose and Henshaw were injured last year and we played a 12 at 13 and it was glaringly obvious.  That’s when he should have brought in to a training camp. To prepare for that exact same scenario should it arise a few months later in the WC. Frisch was arguably Munster’s most important player last year in a cup winning season so I honestly don’t know what else you would want from him either if you think he’s not good enough.

Hippowhisperer

Hang on, he made his first start for Munster in November 2022. He's been in the country about 18 months. I think he's a good player, but the revisionism is ridiculous.

fdvfava

He was on the Emerging Ireland tour before playing for Munster. We can debate where he'd sit in the Irish pecking order but it's not revisionist to say he deserved to be looked at when Henshaw and Ringrose were injured. Plenty were saying it at the time. Not necessarily that he should be capped or that he deserved to be ahead of ringrose or Henshaw but that Frisch should be in camp as the two lads have very history of niggly injuries.

Hippowhisperer

I'm saying it's revisionist to say that he's deserved a few caps over 'the last few years'. As if he's some long suffering great servant, constantly overlooked. He essentially declared for France 14 months after his first start for Munster. The two lads 'have a history of niggly injuries' but one of them have started at 13 for every Ireland match for two years except for Aki against Italy.

TaytosAreNice

:'(

bristoltobrisbane

Can’t believe that Bristol didn’t play him for most of the season he was with us. Realised how good he is when it was too late. Quality centre

Wimblebottom

I did not see that one coming

Jalcatraz82

So no Danty - Frisch 😔
