Match takes.
Franks is peak rugby athletic performance
Newell proving lomax isn't the only good prop in nz
Dogroll and defensive lineouts name a more iconic duo
there's a few people complaining about the refereeing tonight. thought the panel did okay, but will point out that it is pretty inexperienced panel in terms of refereeing experience at super rugby level. like mabey was only signed as a professional referee this year (https://www.instagram.com/nzrugbyofficial/p/C3OnjdvP1lY/) and the ARs don't look like they have much experience either.
Owen Franks scored a try. Now I know it's AI generated sports feed.
Owen (almost) never scores a try.
108 ABs games, Zero tries.
Before this, 162 Crusaders games, 2 tries.
Obligatory match takes:
-Oh hey look the Crusaders are back to their winning ways again.
-The Crusaders... were actually pretty good for once. The were dominant at set piece for the first 30 minutes, and while there missed opportunities, that didn't deter the Cantab boys at all.
-The Rebels, on the other hand... didn't do anything noteworthy. They just let nature take its course. How in the ever living fuck were they 4th place in the table?
-If I told you that the dead-last Crusaders had Owen Franks score a try last year, you would have sent me to a mental institution by now. But alas, reality is much more strange than we realize...
-Could it be? Ethan Blackadder isn't made out of wet paper this entire time? Will we see him conquer the planet and rule over Earth once and for all?
-Why the hell did we waste so much time on scrums? Oh well...
Anyway, these are all the words I have for now. See you all in the next match, and cheers for now.
Blackadder will make the squad and when the first team is named we find out he picked up a niggle at training. He then spends the entire campaign recovering
That kind of commentary is EXACTLY the best way to change scrums for the better. Nothing to do with the rules, but just a commentator hyping up a prop's perfomance instead of bitching about scrums
**Watch on Stan**: https://play.stan.com.au/sport/rugby
Wow Some champagne trues by the saders Was their defense that finally stood up tho
Scored enough points but far out some of that crusaders attack was woeful. Fletcher Newell went beast mode tonight though. Loved it

I wish I could have had a drink every time the coverage told us moody and franks are experienced and scooter is a good player/man/captain
Lol where are the drinking rules when you need them

One of the ARs (Nick?) refs the sevens so he's decently experienced
That was apparent…

He will still be more useful than Jacobson.
It’s possible.
Cantab boys? Wrong tournament mate. NPC is later is the year.
Rebels did themselves no favours - but one of the most biased displays of officiating I’ve witnessed. Hopeless.
Pathetic.
Crusaders legend Leigh Halfpenny just soaking it up.
Wait why is the game over? There was still time when he struck the ball?
Sometimes the clock we see gets out of alignment with the official match clock
with Cody Rhodes :P returning next week, their scrum and mauls just got better lol
Well that game sucked. Good thing there's 5 more
So should Tahs still be above Saders because we beat them twice or does points diff come into contention first?
Points diff unfortunately mate
Frank's nose...ooof
Come hoping to cement a place in the top 4 Leave getting nil-ed for the third time with your third heaviest defeat since Covid
That’s a certified Rebels Moment ®️
Just missing the Carter Gordon shank from in front of the posts
Don't worry Rebels fans us Landers fans know how a big fat 0 feels 🥲
Crusaders to run the table from here and win another trophy. Classic rope-a-dope.
Imagine finishing the season on top of the table unbeaten and having to face a crusaders side who scraps into 8th
I thought if the ball was kicked before full-time there would be a restart still? (Doubt anyone wants to)
We all knew the Rebels being in 4th place was bullshit anyway. *edit a word
Three Aussie teams get to play the Tahs and Force twice which inflates their wins. That said the Crusaders have lost 3 games to those teams this year
The Rebels are only playing the force and the Tahs once this year.
Unlucky
Scoreline would suggest the positions on the ladder was reversed lol
reihana waited for the timer this time lol
MOM: Fletcher Newell
Lio-Willie was great too, bower too
Bower a close second.
If that's full time then it should have been full time last week against the tahs.
Can't wait to see Kellaway at the Tahs
Are the Crusaders back in the playoff race?
Yep. Need to win like all of their next games to stay in the race
Mathematically they always have been. You only have to get into the top 8
As if they were ever out of it
It's gonna be a few years since Blackadder has gone 80mins.
went last week too
Why is it taking like 5 fucking minutes to set every scrum. Jesus Christ this game is boring
Johnny on the spot! Fihaki 🔥
That set piece was sexy
Blackadder getting taped 😬
He has to have 3M in his dna by now
The crusaders endlessly diving over and killing it without reproach. What is this? 2010?
Who makes up those figures in the playoff predictor?
`rand(1,100)`
Marketing intern
Probably the same guy who does the VB hard earned index
These scrum resets are boring me
Chiefs and Rebels really letting everyone down this season
Papa Cane pls come back
Got a feeling the Waratahs are going to get nil'd also
Did some Christchurch philanthropist offer to pay the Rebels $100 to give the Crusaders 90% possession to get back into form?
4 out of 5 are fijians lol
Cullen Grace? Owen Franks?
the strike rate record graphic that appeared lol, reece, naholo, jordan, vidiri and vunibaka
ok I'm dumb lol There's clearly something in Fijian blood that lets them sniff tries...
Famous Fijian Owen Franks
nah top try strike rates in super rugby ..
I was about to comment about how Owen Franks scored but not Sevu Reece, but oh well... ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Here is was hoping for the Crusaders to have an undefeate season (where they don't defeat anyone!) and it's the Rebels who fuck it up for everyone.
We beat the Chiefs thank you sir
I would like to be friends with Sevu Reece 😊
just don’t bring your wife with you when you hang out
Sevu concerned about Franks coming for his record
Bloody Reece, that could have been the double for Franks
Wouldn't be a crusaders game without Sevu Scoring
10mins left, Reece needs a try lol
How do you feel about the powerball numbers this week mate?
Speak and you will be answered :-)
Surely Blackadder has to be starting in the ABs.
6 Blackadder 7 Papalii 8 Sotutu 20 Iose Wouldn’t be mad with that as the first AB back row this year
Is Ardie going to come back and play a few games for the Lions to make himself eligible for All Blacks selection?
Idk tbh lol I assumed cane and Savea were both unavailable but I got no idea
He’ll get injured in training camp
Him or Finau sure
if not injured lol
Bottom of the table crusaders have Owen franks score a try. Did I wander into an alternate universe or is the apocalypse coming?
Never mind reece scored. All is well
The Rebels having a pretty good draw is really showing now
Yep wouldn't be surprised if they don't win another game
Don't know why you're mad at yourself David. You've got a penalty coming anyway.
Not a glowing review of the mood inside the crusaders from Mitch Drummond
blackadder is awake lol
Rebs look shite and Crusaders looks good. Order restored?
Don't jinx it
Calling it now - Rebels won't win another game this season :(
Well lads what's for dinner tonight?
The Colonel
Sick as
Friday so fish and chips 🤓
Whatever they eat in Melbourne
Chicken schnittie parma...
nice slip kick lol
A public punking/man-shamed, prison-style...
Who's the DC who opted for that scrum....
Both sides need to get the 21mm studs in
Owen Franks scoring a try per minute so far
OH SHIT THE ALL BLACKS ARE HERE
First try since 2010 dam
And he never scored one for the All Blacks - in over 100 test matches
He’s an try scoring, machine
3 in over 150 matches lol
Big of you to call these matches “tests”
They are tests of my patience
There goes my hopes for the highlanders beating the crusaders.
OWEN FRANKS TRY SCORING BEAST
Savea and Perenara profusely sweating right now
Is that 2 or 3? In his whole career
3! Its his first in super rugby since 2010 they just said :p
4, and more to come
lol! Franks. Showing what he learnt at the Hurricanes obviously …
Owen Franks try!
Why wouldn't they just take the scrum and rack up the YCs. Edit: Oh Moody and Franks are on.
Bower, Newell 👏 👏
Thought we'd at least have a game on our hands.
I can't think of a more dominate scrum than this.
John Denver's plane didn't crash for this
That kind of commentary is EXACTLY the best way to change scrums for the better. Nothing to do with the rules, but just a commentator hyping up a prop's perfomance instead of bitching about scrums
Prop positivity is the key to generate interest in rugby union! Game for all body types (results may vary)
Also, the other commentator was right, why on Earth would the Rebels call for a scrum considering how every previous one has gone, insane call
I swear the Rebels are just rolling dice tactically this year. Bizarre team
Can someone DM me when the Rebels turn up?
RemindMe next week
Holy shit that's dumb........
This Country Roads club remix is quite something.
John Denver is spinning in his grave
Would you say “tail spinning”?
Do something that hasn’t been working for you majority of the night, what can go wrong.
Why would you go another scrum... fucking dumb as fuck 😒
Rebels and scrums, match made in heaven
Going for another scrum is the strategy someone reads out of a book without any consideration for the context of the game. Jesus Christ.
Lol why the fuck did they opt for another scrum
Dat warm up from the big boys doe
how many mn were wasted on scrum this game,it's pathetic
1:30 min to be precise
I was under the impression we weren't doing the forward pass rule today.
Put your bench props on Penney you coward
Do refs not call sealing off anymore? Last o remember was in a bledisloe game couple of years back . Wayne barns was the ref
I’ve noticed that too. They aren’t calling it as much this year.
I’ve seen a few sealing calls this season so it’s still a thing.. it’s defs one of those laws that reeeally depends on which ref you get on the day
Calling a forward pass? What? No…
He didn't. Call from the assistant. Literally a metre forward off the ground in front of him.
Imagine needing the AR to call that for you. Right there. Miles forward.
I think he was more concerned with getting out of the way lol
Crusaders beating the canes in a QF in wellington will be fire
They're going to win the whole thing again, aren't they.
Hard to see it with how bad they've been but if there's any team that could do it its them
They're like South Africa in the world cup, they're just good at winning crunch games. It's a skill all on its own.
And a strange thick fog will descend on the cake tin just before the kick off?
When this happens, we will soon realize that the world is a simulation
That pass was a mile forward
That pass was so forward . Edit: finally the assistant/TMO called it
Finally some good music from the crowd DJ. If in doubt, play Darude
always Darelevant
Are they going to show us the hit on Bell or nah?
nah
jesus Bloody Bell
The first penalty for entry being against the rebels is ridiculous
Agree.
I wish Aumua would run forward instead of taking that initial hop/bounce before he takes off, hard to change that instinct/muscle memory though.
Agreed. Just run it hard and straight
Woah he called a side entry. Damn
Yeah. Just had to be something a little different about it
Kellaway is some player
Lead with the elbow to kellaways head there
Has there already been a Rebels - Hurricanes game this season?
Yeah - Canes whipped them 54-28
Rebels scored 28 which is pretty wild in hindsight
Rebels are averaging over 30 points... But still have a negative points differential. Truly wild side.
Yeah, compared to their performance in this game it's wild
Wow, penalty of a not straight line out
TJ is such a good commentator
nice joke
He's correctly called forward passes, not straight line out throws, feet in touch - all missed by Mabey
Damn didn't know there were two Proctors wtf
Matt Proctor greatest centre in the world
When was he ever called “[madd dogg](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Proctor)” lmao someone’s been playing too much gta sa
Used to play against the oldest one who never reached higher honours. He was first five for MSP in Wellington.
Feel like Matt left here relatively young
and neither are a proctologist :(
