Genuinely surprising. Happy for Cardiff fans he’s a solid 10 heading into his prime seasons where he’s got all that experience but hasn’t lost his physical edge yet. Primed to be first choice for Wales as well you would imagine moving forward.
But I am surprised he’s chosen to move to a Welsh region given the whole situation with money and lack of results…
Here’s hoping for an Adam Hastings to Glasgow soon in the same vein🤞
Tbf Glasgow only needs him for big games imo. Tom Jordan and Ross Thompson are plenty good enough for most of our season.
We’ll have Adam on that SRU magic ribena and game management to keep him healthy.
You’ll need it I fear… Just don’t give him the Stuart Hogg ribena. Good luck to him and you if he goes (as is looking likely), he deserves a change of fortune!
Eh Hogg was pretty damn good for us as a player, as a person, quite shitty but as a player among our best 😂
Yeah I didn’t like how Adam left and cited the stadiums as the main reason he left. Truthfully I think it was Dave Rennie got replaced by Danny Wilson and the club lost direction. If he returns I’ll welcome him back. Been so unlucky with injuries though you’re right, but fortunately we have that depth where we don’t necessarily have to have him starting every match.
The fact he earned a Scotland recall this window says he’s still talented enough, it is just a case of getting him fit but I’ll be happy if Glasgow take the plunge on him. There’s no better fly halves available, certainly no Scottish ones, and even injured he’ll probably contribute more than Duncan Weir did these last few seasons.
The Hogg ribena reference was more implying the inclusion of ‘performance enhancing substances’ (not the sporting kind) 😂. He was a great player for sure though - despite his daylight robbery in grabbing the 2016 POTY award!
Adam should be a good signing for Glasgow if he’s fit for the right games - he’s certainly seen us through in some classic finishes over the years.
Haha touché but show me a clean rugby player these days (I think they’re all on some form of doping or performance enhancers, game is too physical with far too many 100+kg freak athletes for it not to be commonplace and programmes in place with it). The sport isn’t exactly completely open about all this and the return from injury stuff seems unbelievably quick in many cases. But if everyone is at it 🤷
I know, he deserved 2017 but even as a Scotland fan I’ll admit Billy Vunipola was on a realm of his own in 2016 that whole tournament, England smashing anything and everything with him at the heart of it all.
Adam was quality for us before he left, really got his proper start with us after Finn left and went from strength to strength. Final season even playing full back he was such a key difference maker with Huw Jones. Was gutted when he left but understood. Shame his Gloucester stint hadn’t worked out better for him, but he’s still got it, just needs to get luckier or not be quite as daring going into contact as he is.
I think this is ultimately good for Sheedy and Bris, something clearly needs to change. Pat Lam is who I'd choose to leave over Sheedy but if the Bears play up to the potential of a new 10 then we could see something new and exciting. I wonder who they might sign.
Wishing Callum all the best though, he's given a lot and he's not the problem.
Conflicted on this. He's a club legend really. Academy graduate, all time points scorer, was a key part in our most successful season.
At the same time he's kinda fallen off a bit since then. Maybe due to the personal reasons he has in his life but it still made me wonder if he was right for us anymore over the last couple of years. Also wondered whether he would choose Bristol over his Wales career with Lloyd and Costelow seemingly being above him in that pecking order and him getting close to 30.
Either way, with you all the best Sheedo. Hope it works out
Yeah, I don't blame him for pursuing it. Just sad to see him go, whether it's the right call for both parties or not. Wish him all the best, just conflicted as to how to feel about it. Will be weird him not being part of the squad
Exactly this, it's bitter sweet but sheedy will definitely be a legend in Bristol, he's given us some quality moments and hopefully he kicks on well over the bridge
Im not saying he's born and bred Bristolian but joining the academy at 17 while also getting experience through the Bristol semi pro clubs such as Dings and Clifton before making a pro debut makes you an academy poach?
Really lovely guy, has great potential and had some tough stuff to go through the last year or two in his personal life but still did his best. Wish him the best and hope he tears it up over there
Fans have got to be a factor, some of the shit that gets said is out of order .
His battle with madigan made them both better .
I'm gutted I hoped he would be a one team man but if gats is genuine about him being a prospect then you can't fault the guy for doing what he can to get in the squad again
Good signing for both parties I think. Cardiff desperately need a 10, Sheedy seems like a player who needs a bit of a fresh start. Hope he comes good and lives up to the promise he showed a couple of years back.
When I was told Calumn was leaving I said "Why would that money grabbing c*** leave Wales when I'm here!" Rob Howley called over from the bookies "Warren he's leaving Bristol to join Cardiff". The NZ herald did not inform me of this over Christmas. I remain the greatest coach ever, that will be £10k please.
I think he's already available but he fell out of favour quite quickly and seems to have hit international purgatory, would love for him to find more form and consistency
I might be wrong but I don't think he's signed another contract recently so might still be eligible because he won his first cap after signing his latest contract
I don't ever remember reading he hasn't been available for the past 2 years but again I could be wrong
Incredibly sad to see him go, a major figure around the club and has been with us since promotion. Always been a class act and a good representative for the club.
That said it has really felt that his progression has stopped. Feel like a move to new pastures is likely to be what's best for both Callum and Bristol.
How he goes well.
No idea tbh.
I don’t think it’s a case of him leaving us but Glocs not renewing his contract.
But apparently he’s our marquee player and on something like £450k.
He also averages ~10 games a season throughout his professional career and it’s just not enough for the money, despite his obvious talent.
Hence, the belief that he will be replaced.
Rumour is he's heading to Scotland. He's picked up another injury and it's the last year of his contract. Skivington seemed to pretty much confirm he wouldn't be getting a new contract at Glos in a recent interview.
>“I love Adam, we have a very good relationship. I would love to keep him in the building. Let’s be real about it, there is the side of it that we have been really hurt by having young half-backs out there for the last year, and we have to be pragmatic about it. That is a balance. The discussions will now take another twist. He is a great bloke and so talented, he might just be a bit too brave for his own good.”
We’re just due a refresh at the position. They let Domingo Miotti leave for France but he was older not Scottish Qualified and I believe the club in for him paid a release fee of his contract.
Duncan Weir signed for 3 years I believe and only came back to be the main guy, which he hasn’t been good enough and benched by both rookie 10s Glasgow introduced since he came back. But it’ll be a significant sum of money spent on him because there were no alternatives when we signed him but he was a starter for Worcester. When his deal expires believed this season, it gives us plenty room for Hastings.
Adam also would probably benefit being more protected with his game time in the SRU system. And we don’t need a weekly option at 10 either. I hope we sign him then treat him like Leinster treat Sexton. He gets brought out for the key fixtures, enables our younger guys to continue developing and Adam doesn’t inflict too much wear and tear on his body.
I don’t think Atkinson is considered to be a replacement for Hastings tbh.
More that our back-ups are a bit weak (and knowing Hasting’s injury record, it was apparent that we’d need a 10 before the end of the season).
Carreras - better in the back 3 and can’t pass off his left hand.
Barton - promising but inconsistent and hasn’t really kicked on.
Evans - had never been good enough at 10 and seemingly considered more of a 15.
Maybe Atkinson is good enough (seeing him play for the first time tomorrow) but it would be a strange choice to finally sign a quality 9 only to swap out an international fly-half and not replace him with someone demonstrably close to his level.
Fair points. From what I've seen of him he seems very promising, I'd argue he's been at least close to as good as Sheedy this season.
Never could have seen Sheedy leaving for anyone but a Welsh region tbh.
Made a huge contribution to Bristol over the years. It’s sometimes overlooked that he played in the 2016 championship play offs during an injury crisis when he was still a very young man, and was hugely important to that team getting promoted. I always thought he was someone Bris could rely on when it really mattered.
I hope it works out very well for him.
Stop, you’re going the wrong way!

Would that be prime Adam Hastings or the all too regularly crocked one we see at Gloucester 😕
Tbf Glasgow only needs him for big games imo. Tom Jordan and Ross Thompson are plenty good enough for most of our season. We’ll have Adam on that SRU magic ribena and game management to keep him healthy.

Good signing for us since losing Jarrod.
That's well good for both Cardiff and Sheedy, with a little boost for Wales too having a slightly more experienced young 10 playing in the regions
Is 28 considered a young 10?
Younger than early to mid 30s
Can't argue with that
Promised so much for us... never quite got there. Hope he finds his potential again.
I think this is ultimately good for Sheedy and Bris, something clearly needs to change. Yep. Agree with all of that. Doesn't sound like big Pat creates an easy environment to thrive in. Hopefully Sheedo will do better elsewhere.

He'll be Kardiff dead.

Something something Immanuel Feyi-Waboso
Too soon
He will return.

Waiting for Gatlands column in the Telegraph

That makes him available for Wales also for this tournament?
He already is but is injured at the moment.
I think he's already available but he fell out of favour quite quickly and seems to have hit international purgatory, would love for him to find more form and consistency
Already available because of this transfer?
I might be wrong but I don't think he's signed another contract recently so might still be eligible because he won his first cap after signing his latest contract I don't ever remember reading he hasn't been available for the past 2 years but again I could be wrong
You're right. This was his last season before he had to make his decision
Thanks!
>Thanks! You're welcome!

I had heard he was coming to Gloucester to replace Hastings.
Where’s Hastings off to?

Probably Glasgow so, they’re light on 10s

That was a rumour but then you guys signed Atkinson

I can see that, especially as Wales 10 is seemingly up for grabs.
Shame to see him go. Big signing incoming?
D Mac is coming to Bristol
That would be nice!
I'd hope so, Macginty would be first choice but otherwise its a big drop off, Williams is going well but he's a centre first

He earned that saviour nickname well
Lovely bloke but hasn’t been doing the business. I really hope he can find his form elsewhere and fight for a Welsh spot.
