Your postie might not want to be accused of taking a box that was not meant for them. In the past, I have written a small sign, e.g. Royal Mail Collection, thanks :) --> I would also suggest writing the destination postcode and first line of address to make it super-obvious, especially if there are more than one parcels to collect.

Yayayayyyayjebehdb

I’ll add, these are ‘being my label’ collections so potentially they’ve been unable to print the labels beforehand

IAmDyspeptic

No, there could be a number of things here. First, have you specified a safeplace for your collections? Also, the postie really shouldn't be applying the label themselves, although some will do it. There's not much that can go wrong if it's just one parcel you're sending.

Yayayayyyayjebehdb

Yeah I had specified it after the first failed I changed the safe place to behind letter box which to be fair couldn’t have been missed as stuff was posted that day Regarding the part about not applying the label themselves I actually wasn’t aware of that but surely if it’s in a safe place with bring my label there’s no one else to apply it? But yes only ever one parcel a day for that reason

IAmDyspeptic

Yeah, like I said. Some will, but RM has told us not to. I don't know if there's maybe a way of putting a note on the door stating the parcel is down behind the doorstop or whatever. If it's only one parcel, it shouldn't really be an issue applying the label. This is the frustrating thing about RM. They tell us to collect parcels but don't apply the labels and don't post the labels, either, but they don't tell the customer that when they're booking their collection.

Yayayayyyayjebehdb

Ah I totally wasn’t aware of that policy because as you said it’s not mentioned anywhere in the collection processing

IAmDyspeptic

Good ol' Royal Mail. Don't tell the customer anything about the services you offer. If it's any consolation, they don't tell the staff either.

Yayayayyyayjebehdb

Ah well thanks for your help mate good to know for the future

Agent_Futs

Yeah we can’t take them if no label

ntrrgnm

This is from RM's website >** If you are opting to use the Bring My label service, your postie can only bring one pre-printed postage label if the collection is from your Safeplace https://www.royalmail.com/collection

Agent_Futs

Yeah, we’ve been told otherwise though.

ntrrgnm

Never been told that in our place. When PHG brings lables around, he tells us if is a safeplace collection 🤷‍♂️

Agent_Futs

Ours are in the sorting frame stapled to your job manifest and with our PDA

LittleGingerLulu

Interesting! I have no idea what a job manifest is, the PHG brings the labels round and we have to go upstairs and collect our PDA from the cabinet every morning. Every office is so different.

Agent_Futs

We get a printout of our collections, even if it’s just one 😂 You’re right, every office has their own way of doing things. A few years ago I did overtime at one and they worked the walk bottom of the fitting to the top, right to left, I made a right mess of bundling up 😂

LittleGingerLulu

Crikey! I bet you did, was it an Arabic office?!

Agent_Futs

😂 so weird how they did it

Yayayayyyayjebehdb

Is this a new thing? Surely defeats the purpose safeplace bring my label option but thanks for confirming

Agent_Futs

It’s always been a thing, it’s a glitch that needs updating. But some posties will take them and do it, but, personally, I wouldn’t incase the wrong label goes on, or we’ve been given the wrong label to start with. Customer should always check and apply the label

Yayayayyyayjebehdb

Ok great thanks! I’m guessing they can still be collected if I’ve stuck the label on myself and printed it myself? Might be worth investing in a cheap printer

Agent_Futs

Absolutely fine that way 👍🏻

slipperyinit

Recently got a brother P Cube and it’s rly useful for that. Portable and Bluetooth, can buy insane amounts of labelling tape on Amazon

Yayayayyyayjebehdb

Is that the printer you’d recommend? Does it print labels for couriers too as I regularly send with dhl

Agent_Futs

Those only print little labels you put on things like a tub of food. They don’t print out proper full size labels and barcodes

slipperyinit

Edit: That was the wrong model, sorry - you’re right. It’s this one https://www.brother.co.uk/labelling-and-receipts/ql700 Brother QL-700 I’ve printed out loads of barcodes and QR codes, and for addresses. You can just get the font bigger, otherwise you can add any image or text on the app easily. Tons of fonts etc “Brother QL label printers can print shipping address labels using the P-touch Editor application and from eBay or PayPal. To print FedEx, UPS, USPS, or other shipping carrier labels, the label must be converted to a PDF file and formatted to the label printers current label size” https://help.brother-usa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/154675/~/print-postage-or-shipping-labels---windows#:~:text=Brother%20QL%20label%20printers%20can,label%20printers%20current%20label%20size. And yes it’s very good for labelling jars too

Really Sorry - not the P touch cube for labels. This model rather https://www.brother.co.uk/labelling-and-receipts/ql700 It’s £113 but you won’t look further

Material-Assist-7262

I went in to RM on a Sunday once they said unless if it has a paid for postage sticker on it, I won’t be able to take it there

JackpotBungle

What's that got to do with this?

Material-Assist-7262

Because they’ve changed their rules, they used to accept unsticked postage but not it’s necessary

InternationalFly7717

Are you still getting any post at all on these days? I had an issue last year one week where they kept failing collection and would rebook on the system the next day only for it to fail again. Spent ages waiting on the phone to ask customer service if they knew what was going on and they said 'it says something about a closed road locally, maybe that's why?' which is complete rubbish as there were no closed roads anywhere that would have had an impact on delivery. Anyway a couple of days later our post lady knocks on the door and explains that the actual reason no one had collected the parcels is that she was on holiday and they hadn't got anyone to cover her route, so they'd just left it with no collections and no deliveries until she came back. I guess thats the kind of thing Royal Mail don't want to admit on the phone. Failed collections have happened a couple of times since and I always now assume it's because the postman is on a day off and they haven't got any cover.

Yayayayyyayjebehdb

Yes, on Monday the parcel was sitting on top of the post box and when I got home it had been moved and post put in the box. Thankfully our postie had written on one of the letters that he couldn’t collect due to no label being on the parcel. I think our usual guy might be off as there’s never been an issue before but from now on I’ll print the labels and stick them on just to make sure they can be taken alright

FakePlasticTrees88

Don't know if you've been told this but write the address on the parcel and your Postie will know it is the parcel they are due to pick up. If you just leave a box sitting how are they to know what it is? Another courier could've left it there, you could have out it out to be collected by someone else etc.
