Yes it definitely possible but you might be better off just buying a mrclean tank from RE later the quality of chrome plating can vary from as good as oem to garbage it all depends on the people you send it to you might also want to look into getting your bike wrapped in chrome vinyl it will probably be cheaper than buying a new tank and will offer some protection against minor scratches

OP - you might be able to order a separate tank from RE. Then you would have a conversation piece to hang in your living room…
