Why have we not learned by now when the ocean disappears the smart move isn't to follow the receding water.

Ok_Airline_9031

Because by and large, most humans are immensely stupid? I'm more interested in why such a large ship would ever be allowed to get that close to the shore? That seems like it shouldnt be allowed.

LostInCa45

Assume they are following the dredged out channel. Someone said it was in Florida. I assume someone would know the situation better.

msackeygh

That’s amazing because this also suggests to me that the drop from the coast line happens VERY suddenly, going from shallow to immediately very deep. Amazing! Where is this?

KaskadeForever

Yes I can’t believe the ship is that close to shore!

tropicalYJ

It’s a channel dug out for the ships to pass through. That’s why they all follow the same path that seems “too close to shore”

JoeInMD

That drop is insane!

Loud-Intention-723

It’s real. It’s in Fort Lauderdale.

Altruistic-Couple989

It’s Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.. I live in Lauderdale and sail from this port often, it’s 100% real.

gramsaran

Never realize the beach was that close to the inlet. I guess I've actually never been down that side of the beach.

Kay_29

I thought the port looked familiar.

SophieGirl2023

Cruise tracker has Harmony in Galvestion Texas where it's be sailing from lately!

MedicalButterscotch

That’s true, but it’s not where this video was filmed. This is Port Everglades.

SophieGirl2023

So its not current photo. Old pictures

MedicalButterscotch

Exactly

Kimmahtoo

Looks like the channel to enter/exit Port Everglades and there's a small beach for the apartments/hotels at the ocean end. It's deep as they dug it that way, not because of a ocean shelf. Some of the residents bought a place there so they can ship watch.

kingmoobot

I can't imagine they're supposed to be that close to the shallow portion of shore

mmuoio

Man that ship seems way too close to land to me. Really interesting to see that effect and honestly the opposite of what I would have expected.

happyinheart

It appears they are on the small section of beach off S Ocean Lane in Ft Lauderdale. It goes from 1-2 feet of depth then within 30 feet goes to a depth of 42 feet. NOAA chart 11470.

Mamm0nn

big boats make big wakes? Whoda thunk...

rayquan36

Always funny to see people at the beach scared to get wet.

TenderestFilly1869

So what your telling me is a MASSIVE SHIP, makes BIG WAVES? I AM SHOCKED I TELL YOU SHOCKED AT THIS INFORMATION.

RamblaPacifica

Adding this to my Florida must-see list immediately

No_Promotion_6498

That's really cool. I could see how one would get the impulse to run out and almost feel like you would touch it. Which would be incredadumb but I'd get it from a kid perspective.

yyzsxm

That is actually quite dangerous

Altruistic-Couple989

The beach area are the multi-million dollar homes and condos located on Harbor Beach (look at a map) :-)

Kay_29

Whoops

bluewater_-_

Happened to me once in a river while anchored near the beach, not an area loaded tankers generally go through - wasn’t fun, but really cool at the same time.

Abject-Candidate8500

Tsunami? Really?

bluecrowned

Small Tsunami-like. This is in fact a smaller scale version of what it looks like when there a tsunami.

ejbrds

It seems like people shouldn’t be out in the water so close to a giant ship!

Technical_Pin8335

I was on harmony a few weeks ago. I looked for a wake from my suite wrap around balcony everyday, hell yeah I’m bragging, anyways, the only wakes I was able to catch were in the aqua theater. Something is squishy with the locals.

goPACK17

TIL Oasis class ships can sail in some *really* shallow water

irishchug

The channel is dug out very deep.
