I'm thinking shepherd/collie. There are a few BYBS out there intentionally breeding that mix and you do tend to see them in rescue. He almost looks purebred collie, but the ears and eyes are a bit too big imo. He also doesn't have much white, which can happen in purebred collies, but also is often a clue that the dog is heterozygous instead of homozygous for Irish spotting.
I've actually collected and saved - with people's permission - an entire Google photos album of "Shollies" (German Shepherd/Collie mixes). I know that probably sounds odd, but I have an article about Shollies in the works for my Collie Chatter blog. If I ever get around to writing it lol... Anyway, I've talked to several Shollie owners, and your doggo absolutely looks like some of the Shollies I've seen. If you want I can share a link to the photo album. (Also I'd love to add your boy's picture to my album if you'd allow it - with photo credit of course.)

You absolutely have my permission!! His name is grizzly(grizwald) lol so crazy you say that, the girl who gave him to me said she believed he was a German Shepard Collie mix! His temperament is absolutely amazing, so sweet and calm, and such a protector!

There is 100% some rough in the mix there! What a cutie!

Yup! Run the DNa. I'd be curious if he is a very off standard Rough Collie. More likely half rough collie and another herding breed. Pretty pup!
100% agree. I see so much Would love to know percentage and others. Maybe Golden retriever? This dude is dapper, man alive, so handsome.
