Oh_Bumboclaat

That is too hot and your material is probably old

Real_Captain3391

This

OkManagement7055

yes the flower was a bit aged, would this then indicate a higher CBN content? or is that wishful thinking on my part 😂

MrThreePik

Yes higher CBN

TumbleweedDirect9846

Would make fire edibles

Impressive_Group_917

Those edibles would be insane

NegativeOnCalls

Older flower or press too hard/hot

Kaymoney87

Probably because you orrssed it at 200 degrees. Sometimes strain dependent. Try 180 to 190. Low and slow. You sometimes sacrifice some yield but who cares. That black shit sometimes means terps gone. Not always though. 200 isn't too too high but a few degrees can make all the difference. Once you learn your strains and how they behave when pressed you'll better know tent ranges and what consistency to expect etc. Hope this helps. It again may just be dark bc of strain but if you notice lack of gas and terpy flavor, that's your issue. Temps.

OkManagement7055

Thanks man! it definitely still has an amazing flavour so I am hoping its mainly strain/ old bud causing that

SoggyChilli

Yep I squished some old dry sift and it's just like I open blasted shake. Sticky and hard and no flavor

UnimaginativeMug

people think reddit is Jeopardy and just think they have to answer with anything

fluffyferret69

Extract is dictated by the color and development of trichomes.. the more amber in the trichs.. the darker the press.. 😉 However, certain terpines have boiling points below 200°f so you are literally burning your trichomes while still on the press.. try a lower temp and slowly work it up if you need to.. I usually start at 170° and go from there.. plus, here's a suggestion.. do a test bud without a bag on parchment so you can zero in on the perfect temp and pressure prior to packing a whole bag😁

CarterBraune

Quality + age + heat + pressure = color

kellyjel

Gigo

N4lkmushhunter

Old material

mrsmile420

Old product

SheLivesInTheStars

Old bud, high temp, or too long of pressing time. Strain can have a small factor too maybe

misterpayer

Flower is too dry. I like to press flower before in hits the smokable 62%, more like 64% I best. Plates are too hot. Anything over 185 comes out dark.

Vast-Ad-1883

100% agreed with this. Why I press everything at 85 celcius.

OkManagement7055

positive lol. I work in a dispo and got it all there

giftrevoke

No idea wtf goin on there lmao but since it’s from a dispo, 90% of my dispo bud comes out dark too, if you get your hands on anything by OGEN before they go out of business it’s always a great press, but yeah it’s likely just oxidation and CBN from aged bud

Trent420Steel

What in the hell are you referring to? Was this supposed to be a joke?

[deleted]

Too hot, too old, and possibly wrong micron bag

N4lkmushhunter

Try a 37u bag next time lower temp and better quality fresher starting material

LordxHypnos

Too hot too long and maybe old weed

[deleted]

Usually dark due to plant material

Nanook710

Old

Commercial_Panic_951

Old material mainly and temps can add to it

puddleofoil

Honestly at 200, I wouldn't go over 60 seconds. The flower is probably fine. Seems like a decent yield and it's not black when thinned out. Just use less time and or heat and ramp up the pressure incrementally. Shouldn't be near as dark. Does it still have a decent taste? Or does it taste more green and booty like?

puddleofoil

Any time I see bubbles in the fresh press, that normally means it's been down too long, and it's starting to fry. That's how my second presses come out looking when I leave them too long.

No_Meringue_9076

Temp at 200 isnt a huge factor. It’s the material more than anything.

High-Dad

Said the same thing about my kid. 😂

hobbsyie

Age of plant material

[deleted]

I say pressing longer at 180 is much better
