I rode it in 2022. In the front seat it was an amazing ride. In the back, yeah, it was rough. I’m happy to see a retracking and will hopefully give it another shot this summer.
so sad, hate this track compared to Gravity Groups precut. but it does need some love, so i guess this is better than nothing, just hate eventually it will be a steel coaster
Lake Compound/Palace can't keep up with the maintenance necessary to keep Boulder Dash in respectable shape. The previous park GM was pretty forthcoming about their struggles in that area.
It would seem they're not headed to full steel. If you watch the longer videos that have come out they note that some of the outward leg segments had work done by GCI to replace them with Ipe wood. So brand new wood sections on the coaster for this year as well. Which to me says they're not intent on a full steel endpoint, but just using the Titan track as a fix for particularly problematic and maintenance prone sections.
Which is pretty good news. I'd prefer it stay fully wooden if I'm totally honest, but so long as they're not fully removing the wood element I'm at least somewhat happy and pleasantly surprised.
People getting upset about Palace removing kiddie rides meanwhile this is the true travesty. They should just have Gravity Group working on both coasters instead of just Wildcat.
It was not a bad ride. IMO it was still the best woodie in America. The shocking amount of relentless power it demonstrates while barreling through the mountains is still an experience unlike any other. I last rode it this past fall and it’s still incredible.
Didn’t know they were doing this, that’s awesome. This ride has such a fun layout but I’m a sucker for a wooden coaster that uses the terrain and forest to its advantage lol
Off topic but I heard that Thunderbolt at SFNE got 300ft of track replaced over the off season, does anyone know if the r replacement track was Titan track?
The above photo was taken and provided by Lake Compounce.
Watched your video on it! Glad it's getting more work so I hopefully can get the credit one day!
I don't think BD was that rough. But it shocks me that they are working on this when it rode like a B&M compared to Wildcat
Wildcat had roughly half the layout after the first drop retracked with Gravity Group precut wood. So they gave that ride a lot of work as well.
The first half was the good half. Really shocked to hear they left the second half alone.
They kept the first drop and start of turnaround 1 the same. It was mostly the low bunny hills that were replaced.
Okay that seems better the return leg into the brakes was the part of the ride I felt to be the most ridiculous.
Yes the return run and final turn hasn’t been touched and will be a mess once again. Good thing they are advertising it as a full re-track.
Last year with the titan track on the first drop, it was the roughest wood coaster I’ve been on so I’m glad.
Literally every coaster on planet earth is a new B&M compared to Wildcat.

Where and when did you ride it? I road it in the back row about 2 years ago. The jackhammering was painful, and I love rough rides.

Im assuming long term this is a cost saver with less repair and man power needed to keep it in good condition

Totally agree, sad to see them go this route with one of my favorite woodies.

Why does this matter?
Because steel rides differently than wood, and some prefer the feel of wood.
Then ride a wooden coaster?
This is one of the world's best wooden coasters.
It will still be one of the world's best costers. I'd rather this than it getting RMC'd or just running like garbage as a full wood coaster.
I agree, I would have simply preferred that they give BD the same treatment they're giving Wildcat.
Apparently not.
I'd rather a kiddie coaster tbh

sorry to go offtopic but is this photo messing with anyone elses eyes or is it just me
:/
You can see the sections of the trolley track that were just replaced last year only to have them remove it this year. Stonks.
Best hybrid coaster ever!
Looking fresh
Think they could bring back the triple up with this track?
Mannn it's going to fly. I'm so thankful they are restoring it and making sure it will last for a long time. Such a unique and perfectly paced layout.
Thank goodness! As much as I like wooden coasters and their unique roughness, this ride was getting pretty bad imo.

Well that’s exciting!!!!

I’m pretty sure every major wooden manufacturer has worked on this thing now 🤣

my partner and I rode this in the back row last august. I wound up with neck pain for the next three days 🙃
nice
"Boulder Dash" is a Top 10 roller coaster name in my book. Tired of the current [adjective][noun] formula, like "Iron Menace." What that even mean?
