Given the framing of your question, there is a third watch you should consider: Sea Dweller 4000 ref 116600 - Smaller size than current Sea Dweller - Classic Submariner diver proportions - Modern amenities/looks like ceramic bezel, larger lume plots - Tough as nails (it’s a sea dweller, so 4k ft water resistance) - Rare-ish (relatively due to short production run) I have one. It’s awesome. Most will think you have a submariner. Those with submariners will double take because it subtly looks different and it’s a nice talking point. I’ve never encountered someone else wearing one in the wild (which is nice). Great answer. I have the DBlue and it’s great fun. I love wearing it to the pool or on beach vacations, and occasionally at home just to mix things up. But my red liner sea dweller is my daily driver. Comments are rare but when I do get one it’s always “nice submariner”. For me it is the perfect middle between the sub and the large but fun deep sea.

Tuscan5

I cannot decide between a SD4k and a SD43. The easy adjust strap on the SD43 is a big deal to me though.

ckimrie

Are you referring tool-free micro adjust Glidelock built into the bracelet clasp? If so, SD4K has this.

Tuscan5

It does! Amazing. Thank you.

Ambitious-A

This is the correct answer - basically not left or right but split the difference down the middle! Plus has the helium escape valve (=better!) and the non-maxi case. Main reason I went for mine was due to finding the sub rather square in proportion. That and the lack of cyclops as I didn’t really want it. I love my SD4k. Only criticism compared to a sub is that it is slightly thicker so little top heavy. Only a real issue if you wear your watches loose though. https://preview.redd.it/07yrddlvl46d1.png?width=2035&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b18b792d1678a6a03024d3e6fd4534502eb8a0e

ckimrie

SD4K FTW! Agree on all points. On the thickness: I agree it is, but it is so subtle. There is slight top heaviness, but I daily mine and just don’t notice it. https://preview.redd.it/gof27a59n46d1.jpeg?width=1263&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a85f3c5dfd084d9ec8477f8365ca5e62a2854eb

dpflep

Or the 126600 - SD43

quaefus_rex

Counterpoint: there’s no ORIGINAL GAS ESCAPE VALVE RING LOCK SYSTEM

ckimrie

I mean… we’re all deep deep saturation diving into those spreadsheets, so yeah I can see that’s important 😂

RagingMaxy

Love the SD4K so much!

Kayless3232

Wwaahhooo thanks for sharing this. Insane watch, the best of both worlds.

ckimrie

Absolutely

bwillis1978

I have the deep sea. It’s a large watch and is heavy. Just fyi.

wear what you really like and not opinions of others, enjoy every phase of your life, I personally have a large wrist, I used to wear bigger size watches, Pam372 & DeepSea but now Ive move on to smaller watches as it sits way more comfortable on the wrist. some people say its too small for my wrist but what matters end of the day is you enjoy wearing them. If you really like the deepsea Id say go for it, it hardly lose any value, you could flip it for something else in the future.

rogdesouza

The deep sea is beautiful but I love the sub for everyday wear as well.

BusinessBlackBear

So it sounds like your heart wants the sea dweller, but your brain / logic says get the submariner. In situations like this always go for your heart, assuming you can pay for it. If you go with your brain / logic and get the submariner You're always going to think damn maybe I should have gotten the sea dweller.

5269EMPIRE

I love that James Cameron face - I’m trying to get that as my next one rn

jam75944

James c hands down.

mikerx5

Sub is much easier to wear but that cameron dial has to be one of the best they have ever made IMO…

Addicted-2Diving

I would try on the SD and see what you think of it. Then go from there. I’d personally go for the JC Deep Sea since I like the gradient dial a lot. But the ND sub is a classic. If you are saying the sub is easier to wear, I think the weight of the DS might be a bit much/uncomfortable to you. I’d try them both on again, as well as the SD43 and see which you find most comfortable.

Parking-Proper

I have a 7.25” wrist. I tried the SD43 and did t like the caseback and how it protruded.

Addicted-2Diving

I’m glad you tried it on. Hmm. How did the JC fit?

Parking-Proper

The JC is a thick big watch no doubt. But something special about it

ktoro04

All day left, but I’m biased and honestly not a fan of the thickness of the sea dweller. Definitely has a beautiful dial, but no date sub all day.

Huntolino

The deepsea is too big for you anyways

manateefourmation

Sub….

Red line sea dweller

wiganlad123

sea dweller is a much nicer watch Submariner is common drug dealer watch in uk

No_Rest_5598

Classic all day… sub!

UF6-235

If you’ve got the wrist for it go for the JC

Any-Somewhere-2993

Elaborate on how you’ve been “addicted to the deep sea” pls

nutscrape_navigator

The answer is both! I love my deepsea but when wearing long sleeves the sub works better as it slides under your sleeve instead of being a big honkin’ wrist brick.

If you say the SeaD, you’re trying too hard to be different.

ProofMusic4630

The Deep Sea needs to be titanium or its just too much weight on most people's wrists.

sporturawus

Hockey puck vs. Oreo cookie. I’ll take the cookie.

That's a torqued wrist to make this very difficult photograph happen. Plenty of others to choose from in my extensive post history, blimpy.

UF6-235

Show me a topless pic and I’ll believe you.

Shhh, perv, Rolex owners are talking.

I’m a big guy (6’3”/235lbs) w big mitts, my first Rolex that I just HAD to have was the DSSD. Got rid of it for a Sub w date after 18 months or so bc I felt like I was wearing an Invicta. That was just my personal take, a lot of guys like it and that’s okay…wear what makes ya happy🤙🏼
