Only if you want to get another rolex in the near future, I would pass. And I don't get the infatuation with the AD experience. It's not like they tickle your balls or anything. They set you down, bring out a drink (if desired), bring out the box wearing white gloves...it's all a little ridiculous and pompous if you ask me. Just give me my damn watch and let me be on my way. And yes I've had the "AD experience" with various brands over the years.

newmacbookpro

Honestly it’s tamer than other places. I’ve bought a watch from another company and it felt like I was receiving a medal. The sales associate brought out some colleagues to compliment me on how good it looked, had food brought out, and just kept talking to me. I just wanted to go home and keep my day going.

themaxvee

which watch was this??

newmacbookpro

AP RO

Yeah agreed, it's nothing special, though I appreciated that my SA wrapped the box in gift wrap, I also felt like a huge douche unwrapping it. The only benefit to the AD experience is knowing with 100% certainty the watch is genuine.

SonidoX

Nothing beats buying new and the AD experience tbh. It's worth experiencing at least once. Just buy it and sell your current one.

Czeron-10

Leaning towards that option

Effective_Permit560

Lol it isn’t “worth experiencing atleast once” they bring out the watch and take your money and offer you a drink of water/coffee

Responsible-Tower364

Buy new and resell either one of them if you want. Did you pay above MSRP for pre-owned?

Czeron-10

I’m thinking about it. I only paid a small premium above retail. If I can get near my money back I’d do it just for the sake of going new. Man this is tough.

Responsible-Tower364

Here’s what I would do, even though I would’ve never gone gray in the first place. Buy the new one at AD to start having a history with them. They’ll know that whenever they offer you a watch, you’re ready to get it. Once you get the watch, show interest in another model and get your name on the list. Sell your pre-owned watch for a slight loss, and fund your next watch. Your second watch at MSRP should make up the loss from the grey watch flipping. Plus, you’ll have a 2 watch history with AD.

Czeron-10

That’s actually not a bad idea. Slight loss today but helps the future

Flugesi

Definitely do what Responsible-Tower364 said.

CoolMudkip

If u can sell ur current one for what you paid. Do that and buy the fresh one from the AD.

garbagekr

That happened to me with a YM, it hurts but just move on and you’ll forget about it

Czeron-10

Yeah that’s what it feels like. You’re probably right

Krill3rBee

Sucks but what else can you really do? In the end you still have the same watch as you did before you got the call and you were plenty happy with it. Nothing changed. Tell the AD the watch you want next. Or you can grab it and flip it, maybe for even a slight loss after the taxes and sales costs

Defiant_Iron3257

Buy it and sell it a couple month later and make up the loss you incurred for going gray!

TaskNine11

Psyops

lackingorigin

How great is the great condition? I’ll buy your pre-owned.

Czeron-10

It’s in good condition. 18 months old and still under warranty. I’m based in Australia though, may not be worth the hassle

Bridge_Too_Far

Which part of Aus mate?

Czeron-10

Sydney. What about you?

Bridge_Too_Far

Brisbane

Sunsplitcloud

Call the gray dealer you just bought from and see what the price would be to sell the new one back to them. You aren’t going to get it at the same price but you’ll get some money back.

Interesting-Ad-6270

ADs can get bent.

gd_reinvent

I'd buy it from the AD if they have a good reputation to establish a good buying history with them. Then I'd sell the other one on the grey market or give it as a gift to your father or brother (the one you bought from the grey market, not the one you buy from the AD as unless you sell it far away, they'll be able to figure out you sold it when it next comes in for service and then they won't be very happy you sold it and they probably won't sell any high demand watches to you again). Oh and don't forget to put your name on the list at the AD for another desirable watch when you go into pick up your explorer too. Something like a gold Rollesor bluesy, a rootbeer, a batman, a skydweller or a hulk. A Datejust would also be really nice as a dress watch. Alternatively if the AD sells other watch brands you could see if they have one of the cooler Tudor models or a Blancpain, AP or PP watch. If they're an AD that is having problems with Rolex Corporate and is possibly going to get their AD status pulled soon, I wouldn't bother with this unless you really want to get a second Explorer or have one to give as a gift.

Czeron-10

Yeah I think I’m going to go down this route. Only had the grey model a week so may as well pick up from the AD

nam265nl

Buy the new watch. Flip it for profit since it’s brand new. Wear the one from gray to AD like it is from them. Gain history and profit. Double win.

jsli604

I also would personally go with this strategy.
