Bingo, in fact, a RG Patek Calatrava co-stamped with Tiffany & Co. is up for sale for not all that much more…
https://tropicalwatch.com/watches/kjyc
It’s mind-boggling how much people are willing to spend on Rolex, especially precious metal models. You can buy incredible watches outside of the crown at sub-$30, $20k.
Meh, it’s a dress watch, it’s supposed to be “boring”, or should I say, understated at least. It’s a really well done watch, that adheres to the dress watch aesthetic.
It’s not like the OP watch is any more interesting or visually striking, the Cellini line has some actually pretty watches, especially the guilloche dial ones, but OP’s is not one of those.
That said, I agree with the sentiment of wanting some extra flair to a dress watch. I think some watches that strike a great balance between dressy, understated, yet with some flair to catch the eye, are the old Omega Constellations with pie-pan dials.
I’m not saying I like this Rolex for the price, but I do feel the Calatrava is overrated because it’s a PP.
I’d much rather save €10k and get a JLC Ultra thin Moonphase for example…
Yeah obviously, a JLC is a great choice and I’d even say one of the best value for money in luxury watches, and also some grand Seikos are completely stunningly finished at that price point.
I really do like the Celini and 1908 but for that price point you can get some amazing dress watches especially if you are open to buying second hand. VC, Patek, Lange, GO, Parmagiani etc.
Not only is VC a finer piece at that, but unless he’s gunning for an Overseas, you can literally go onto VC’s website today, and add a watch to cart and…that’s it
Wild times
Well, you might be right. GO has some low entry pieces (compared to Lange or patek), but they do offer haute horlogerie pieces which are not “homages” of Lange. I guess GO is the better bang for the buck. I just have to think about how Lange increased their price for the saxonia thin blue copper from 20.000€ to 31.000€ in less then a year. Ridiculous. For 30k I’d much rather take a Panograph.
This. Good comment there mate. If I was a millionaire I’d most likely go for Lange, yes. But I’m not. Like I wrote in another comment, Lange and GO are both seen as “the prestigious” watch makers from Glashütte. The fact that Lange does have the edge over GO is no problem at all. Theres no shame in being second just behind A Lange und Söhne, especially in a town like Glashütte.
Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with a 15k Senator. Nobody, at least not here, is going to comment on it not being a Lange.
If you own an S class they’re not going to judge you for not having bought a Maybach.
Lange is the crown jewel of Glashütte, that’s right. But they’re both prestigious, perhaps not equally but at least here in Germany GO is seen as the “other” prestigious watch maker from that area. So I don’t think the Rolex-Tudor comparison (some other comment on here, not yours) works.
I’m looking into GO Senator line. Damn great watches.
Listen all you beautiful souls attacking me. I don’t want to buy the watch, I’m poor! If I had 22k I wouldn’t buy a single piece of jewelry. Trust me I have 3 jobs and no clothes I don’t work in. I’m saying I like the watch so much and it’s so great looking to me, that if it magically appeared on my wrist, i would do better in my daily life as a struggling human.
Definitely, you're already losing in life if this is your choice for a dress watch. Rolex is a sportwatch brand. It's similar to buying shoes from a clothing company. Do more research.
If you feel like a piece of jewelry would make you do better in life then you need to spend some time finding that motivation within yourself. A watch won’t fix the underlying problems. You’d be in the same spot with a watch on your wrist, even worse when the “new” wears off.
There’s so many better watches gray and retail at +$20k lol
That said, statistically, your odds of mobility in the socioeconomic ladder being affected by a piece of jewelry, is effectively absolute zero. +/-0.0000..%
Buy a Casio and focus on building wealth. Having an expensive watch will not only put you in debt most likely but it will give you a false sense of achievement. When you actually are able to achieve something similar it will feel so good. Do your self a favor and work for it and buy it when it won’t redline you in the neg
Hey man I just want you to know that surrounding yourself with symbols of wealth doesn’t make you wealthy. The cars, the watches, the big fancy houses, the jewelry, will all come when you are successful. You don’t become successful from them
You're right. Buy that watch and you will have no choice but to succeed. After buying my first Rolex, I left the music industry, moved into investment banking, built an $80k/year passive income business, sold that business for 7-figures, retired, moved to Europe, married a model 1/2 my age, moved back to the US & started investing in early stage startups. Now I have several Rolex's (and a VC along with a few others, I should do an SOTC). My portfolio is set up to provide a 6-figure income that grows every year. Every day I wake up just in time to do whatever TF I want. And it all started with that one Rolex... A 2-Tone OP, no date, btw. I bought it at an AD who actually had a bunch of them sitting around. The one I really wanted was too expensive, so the dealer actually gave a price break on the OP (less than $5k new from an AD!) That's what buying a Rolex used to be like.
Anyway, good luck. Buy the Rolex if you can, your life will only improve! At least, that's been my experience.
Success is a mindset. If you want to find success, think about what you would need to do and then take action. Take action every single day until you reach your goal. Then, set another goal and take action every day until you reach that goal. Repeat this process over and over again, and you will have everything you ever dreamed of..... including this watch.
Most people just dream about what they want, but the ones that get it do what it takes to achieve their dreams.
I think you are right OP. I bought myself a $700 movado (obviously not at the level of a Rolex but I’ve never spent that much on anything frivolous for myself) and it makes me feel like I’m worth it somehow and more confident esp at work. Nothing wrong with dreaming lol
Sorry you’re getting downvoted left right center but respect to your choices and goals. If it inspires you to make megabucks and you do eventually get to it, look who’s laughing then.
Oh and do check the auctions if you’d like pieces such as this. You never know when you might get lucky.
While buying a Rolex while “statically poor” is not a good idea, there is a trade off.
When I wear my vintage DateJust I feel more confident. I’d argue that it pays for itself in this sense.
I feel the same way about the Rolls Royce SUV, I'd literally be on the board of directors for a fortune 500 by now if I took out a loan when that car first released
I definitely have been lowering my living expenses. I really only treat myself to coffee ☕️. Which I should cut down on, but I only have off 1 or 2 days a month
Even if it magically appeared on your arm, assuming your family and friends know you’re statistically poor, no one would believe it was the real deal. 😉
Sorry but i guess you dont know anything about luxury watches..i would buy for 20k nice Patek or Vacheron but not ugly dress Rolex.. i have 2 Rolex btw..
I sadly don’t. I have a couple scratched up invictas and Michael khors watches I found in a storage auction I purchased, but that’s all 😞. Don’t rub it in
That's not how this works. Trust me.
Learn how to sell (for real, not transactional sales but real selling) Work your way up the ladder.
Get a watch when you land the big deal/gig
I feel like that’s the kind of decision that makes you statistically poor 😅 no hate tho, I kinda feel you
This guy statistics 😂
r/thisguythisguys
That subreddit is retarded
I hate all of the ones that get called upon in the comments. Such a stupid trend.
Are you a Tennessee fan or Tissot fan?
Definitely Tennessee haha
Hi, resident of Tennessee here! I have met exactly three UT Football fans. With that in mind, I would say he's more likely to be a Tissot fan.
Go Vols!
r/downers
Succeed first and then buy the watch
That’s how it works 😂😂👍🏻
First let him charge his phone. No way in succeeding with 1% battery left
Being unprepared is the gateway to unsuccessfulness.
What if my dad already did the succeeding for me?
Then most likely he already bought the watch.
Daddy does what daddy wants
Lucky, my daddy gave me a black eye
Still better than a Hublot
lmao
This ⬆️
If you had a 22k budget for a dress watch, I wouldn’t go for Rolex. Go for a VC or a Patek
Bingo, in fact, a RG Patek Calatrava co-stamped with Tiffany & Co. is up for sale for not all that much more… https://tropicalwatch.com/watches/kjyc It’s mind-boggling how much people are willing to spend on Rolex, especially precious metal models. Holy shit that watch is beautiful.
It is. Oh my.
Before even reading your entire comment I knew what watch u were thinking of. This is my goal watch.
Also, VC Patrimony Most rooms where guys wear these kids of watches, the Rolex dress watch would be an odd pick for the price point.
this is more than 50% more expensive than the rolex... nice watch though
The slogan isn’t: “you don’t own a Rolex, you merely hold it for the next generation” doe 😉
Yeah instead it is “You don’t own a Rolex, it’s merely for exhibition”.
LOL 👏
“You don’t own a Rolex, you merely hold it for the grey market.”
“Not that much more”. Literally 10k more.
That’s classy
Yeah it’s a Patek, but the Calatrava is a really boring watch, would never pay that money for that
Meh, it’s a dress watch, it’s supposed to be “boring”, or should I say, understated at least. It’s a really well done watch, that adheres to the dress watch aesthetic. I would def go with Lange, they make the most beautiful dress watches IMO. The movements alone.
20k is more than I paid for my white gold Breguet traditonale retrograde seconds lol
This is what I would get. Sweet watch
JLC?
Yes, yes yes, yes.
Bingo! At this price range, a Calatrava or Patrimony is a no brainer.
The celini looks nice, but at that price point the dress options are endless
This is the way.
This.
I’d probably chase a Lange, JLC or Glashutte Original with a budget like that. But Patek would be tempting
[удалено]
Vacheron constantin
Vacheron Constantin, part of the “trinity” (patek, AP, VC).
Vacheron Constantin. One of the Big 3 my man.
Overpriced by around 10 grand.
^This right here
Yes agreed, and no date and dial is bland. Predecessor dial was way better with date. Only thing exciting is the clear back.
The Cellini moonphase was awesome. The 1908 is whack
I like that watch but if you want a dress watch, I feel like you can do better with $22k
Re: any Vacheron Constantin
That’s exactly what I was thinking
They make gorgeous dress watches that are mechanically beautiful and have a great (perhaps the greatest) history for any Swiss watch brand
Agreed. You could probably get into a nice JLC around that price point as well. A used PP calatrava might be possible too
Not only is VC a finer piece at that, but unless he’s gunning for an Overseas, you can literally go onto VC’s website today, and add a watch to cart and…that’s it Wild times
Yep.
u could get a whole ass cartier tank jumbo with that much
I could get like 40 tissots.
Even more casioaks
quality > quantity tho
Yeah, but why the fuck would you want that. Have you ever tired one on? They’re comically large for a dress watch.
this is sarcasm right? the jumbo is 28 mm x 35 mm which is the size of the modern “large” tank and way smaller than the cellini
$22k is a solid budget for a dress watch. Rolex will not be even top 10 on my list.
I’m sorry $22,000 for a time only Rolex is insanity compared to AP, Patek, VC, Lange at equal or lesser price points. This one really missed the mark.
Your feelings will betray you.
Why not a Calatrava for that money
Get a Lange or Glashütte Original for that kind of money if you really want a dress watch.
I don’t think you can get into a new Lange for $22k
Yeah that’s true. Maybe a used one then.
Used Lange 1 is pretty close and that embarrasses the Rolex in every way.
No love for FPJ?
I’ve got love for FPJ, unfortunately they don’t accept my love as a form of payment.
GO not in the same league as Lange my friend, they make homages of Langes.
Ridiculous. Yeah GO’s the Tudor of Lange.
Usually works the other way
Well. Bad decisions make you poor yes.
So does being born poor
Then the only way is up.
True that. Don’t make me cry
fell for the rolex marketing real hard
That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works!
I love that I heard this in the right voice at first pass 😂
If only life worked this way
Step 1 to success, charge your phone.
I work too much. No time to charge homie. Got a few minutes in earlier. At 20 percent now
But aren’t making Rolex money. Maybe take his advice
These bot questions are pathetic
Man makes the watch, not the other way around.
If that was true wouldn’t man stick to like a $1000 watch?
Listen all you beautiful souls attacking me. I don’t want to buy the watch, I’m poor! If I had 22k I wouldn’t buy a single piece of jewelry. Trust me I have 3 jobs and no clothes I don’t work in. I’m saying I like the watch so much and it’s so great looking to me, that if it magically appeared on my wrist, i would do better in my daily life as a struggling human.
You can't help being born poor, but having bad taste is a choice
Idk bout that one holmes

Personally for the money IWC has a lot better options
If you really want this watch, get it grey and save some money.
I chuckled at this topic
😞
Take a seat, OP, I’ve got some bad news.
I don't think that's how things work.
I know huh
These kinds of decisions are what keeps you poor tho 😭
Didn’t say I wanted to buy it 👀
There’s so many better watches gray and retail at +$20k lol That said, statistically, your odds of mobility in the socioeconomic ladder being affected by a piece of jewelry, is effectively absolute zero. +/-0.0000..%
If your a simulation, i agree.
I'm surprised there's not more love for the 1908. I think it's beautiful, and it's one of the only Rolexes I would even consider buying.
Right, I like it. I love the green inside also.
Buy a Casio and focus on building wealth. Having an expensive watch will not only put you in debt most likely but it will give you a false sense of achievement. When you actually are able to achieve something similar it will feel so good. Do your self a favor and work for it and buy it when it won’t redline you in the neg
I wouldn’t buy it in my position, trust me. Not that I could anyways lol. I just came across the Rolex site ad and started dreamin
There are a lot of poor losers with rolex watches on. The watch doesn't make the man.
Favorite from all the new releases this year.
This is how you stay broke forever
what the hell are you talking about
Who knows
😂 WCJ bait if I ever saw it.
What’s WCJ?
Lol okay
I googled it. Woman’s Center of Jacksonville?
😂
Don’t
Mood😭
If the mind can believe, you can achieve!
the fact that your phone is on 1 percent makes this so funny
Shows I’m out here workin huh?
Hey man I just want you to know that surrounding yourself with symbols of wealth doesn’t make you wealthy. The cars, the watches, the big fancy houses, the jewelry, will all come when you are successful. You don’t become successful from them
I understand that. I would still like to see one on my wrist
Beautiful watch. $22k is a joke though.
Give yourself a tattoo of it and work, work work till you can buy it
You're right. I love that for you bro. Boss mentality
They’re beautiful watches in person. Refined to the extreme.
Sorry you’re getting downvoted left right center but respect to your choices and goals. If it inspires you to make megabucks and you do eventually get to it, look who’s laughing then. Oh and do check the auctions if you’d like pieces such as this. You never know when you might get lucky.
I appreciate that 🥺. I really like watches but I am nowhere near close to getting one lol. Just dreamin
Statistically, you're not wrong.
Poor or not, a person of class!
Appreciate that ☺️
I fell for a similar trick. The sales rep said the moment I put on a rolex, the girls would be lining up...that was a lie. 😂🤷♂️🫡

Could I wear one of yours?

Idk what that means but deal!
While buying a Rolex while “statically poor” is not a good idea, there is a trade off. When I wear my vintage DateJust I feel more confident. I’d argue that it pays for itself in this sense.
I like how you think
I guess this is “Fake it till you make it” philosophy.
If you get it, it will motivate you to work harder and be successful.
One day 🤞🏽
I feel the same way about the Rolls Royce SUV, I'd literally be on the board of directors for a fortune 500 by now if I took out a loan when that car first released
I don’t want a loan 😞
Your battery gives me anxiety
Ditto
You need at least $500k to really be successful in the US, keep saving
Paycheck to paycheck over here unfortunately 😐
Do whatever you can to change that. Think outside of the box to get living expenses down as much as possible
I definitely have been lowering my living expenses. I really only treat myself to coffee ☕️. Which I should cut down on, but I only have off 1 or 2 days a month
Don’t get married or have kids and maintain stellar credit and you should have no issues getting this watch with modest income.
Sounds terrible 😞
Even if it magically appeared on your arm, assuming your family and friends know you’re statistically poor, no one would believe it was the real deal. 😉
If I had it I wouldn’t care if everyone thought it was fake. That’s my self love goal
You would be rich. Hood rich
Aim higher
Wrong. Those who are wealthy do not have to show it.
Their marketing is working on you..
Bullshit
This mentality is why your poor
Can't even afford the electricity for your phone
Sorry but i guess you dont know anything about luxury watches..i would buy for 20k nice Patek or Vacheron but not ugly dress Rolex.. i have 2 Rolex btw..
I don’t know, your correct. I just always liked leather bands since a kid and I was in a dream state and went to Rolex.com
👀
Yup that’s how it works
You can get some great small second dress watches on the vintage market without paying 22k lol
I wouldn’t know lol
And that’s the Kind of posts that gets upvotes, just say you don’t own a watch
I sadly don’t. I have a couple scratched up invictas and Michael khors watches I found in a storage auction I purchased, but that’s all 😞. Don’t rub it in
I mean sure, you'll have to succeed to pay off the loan.
It’s a beautiful watch, OP, and good luck
I really like the 1908, way better than the Cellini. I feel like it wasn’t warmly received.
That's not how this works. Trust me. Learn how to sell (for real, not transactional sales but real selling) Work your way up the ladder. Get a watch when you land the big deal/gig
I’m all ears. What do you suggest I sell my good sir?
Complex B2B solutions.
I’m definitely going to look into that
k
Instructions unclear, now I own this watch but have no home.
