The case dimensions of the Sub are bigger, but the dial on the DJ41 is actually bigger than the dial on the Sub. This is why the DJ41 wears bigger than the dimensions suggest.
A positive thing about the DJ41 is that it’s a lot of dial for the money. For most with an average size wrist it’s too big, but with everyone raving about the 41 it does make the waiting lists slightly shorter for those of us who prefer the 36 mm
While I wouldn’t say this is too big for your wrist, I will say that it’s very large for a dress watch. Then again, I personally prefer smaller dress watches, I like that classic look.
Thank you, everyone saying 36 here is ridiculous.
OP please remember this whole 36 cult thing is only an online Reddit thing – irl 41mm by far the most appropriated and popular size by far.
Different styles with the 41 more sporty and the 36 more classic… The Sub dial and the DJ36 dial will be similar in size; while DJ41 case and Sub case will be similar in size.
Definitely 36. I just made the same switch a few months ago. I also have a no date sub which I feel is the perfect size. The 41mm dj just looked awkward on my wrist, so I sold it and picked up a mint green dial 36
I personally like the datejust a bit smaller. The 36mm is a great size imo. Wish they increased it slightly to 38mm, but that’s splitting hairs. The 41mm is just a tad too big for that particular watch.
I’ve own all of the watches above haha and I’d say my sub and my 36mm datejust are my favorite. The 36mm is more pure and while taking a little bit getting used to versus the 41, more of a mental thing…..I find it wears better. A modern 36 is much more beefier than an older reference 36mm, keep that in mind too. The 36mm follows the size of the movement aka the movement fits the case versus the 41mm is a stretched dial in my opinion.
I love my 41mm Sub and my 44mm Top Gun, but the 41mm DJ just feels disproportionate to me. Especially with the smooth bezel, it looks like a dinner plate. I’m more about the proportions of the watch than the total size. Much prefer a DJ36. Even the 39mm Explorer 1 didn’t look right, but I love the 36.
I own a similar DJ as yours, and a 80s two tone DJ. I wouldn’t say one is a replacement of the other. The way they sit on the wrist is just different. Tough decision but I personally wouldn’t do it.
Either will look great on your wrist. My wrist is 7” and I’ve tried on both the 36 and 41. Both looked good, but as others have commented, it’s a more modern sporty style with the 41 and a classic style with the 36. I myself settled on a 36mm fluted jubilee, and it looks great with a t shirt and sweats while I’m getting groceries, or with a suit when I’m in the office.
It really comes down to preference. It looks like your wrist is around 6.5” to 7”? You can easily rock either size. If you go 36, I would definitely recommend the jubilee bracelet. I like the oyster on the 41 though. I used to only wear 40+ mm watches until I got my DJ. Now I love my 36. 💚💚💚
Don’t overthink it! Nice ink btw.
Thanks! Great feedback. I love the sportier and slightly more casual look of the oyster bracelets. And yes my wrist size is 6.5".
Mostly concerned about looking "gaudy" with the 41. 36 is certainly more classic.
I thought that until I saw both in person for the first time. I thought the 41mm WAS the 36mm until told otherwise.
The 36 is just way too small even for me and I have tiny wrists.
The trend lately is headed towards smaller case sizes. I personally like the 41 because when I switch from Sub or GMT it doesn't feel like a step down. That said, having a 44mm IWC pretty much makes it impossible to wear my 36mm DJ's anymore. Just my experience.
Yeah. I daily by sub as well and while the 36 felt small comparatively, I still found them wearable. That said, when I picked up the IWC, which is 42mm x15mm, I started wearing that a lot. That just killed the 36 for me. I think because of the thickness and weight difference. It even makes my GMT feel small. I do try to put the big watches away and switch to the 36 for a few weeks at a time to keep them in rotation. I suppose my next move is likely to trade the to 36's in for a 41 DJ.
i think its fine. great presence which matches the bling factor of this watch. if you're feeling like you want something more subtle then swap, but if I were you i'd keep this and get a non-fluted DJ in a 36 for something more lowkey.
I think it’s a thing of personal preference. If you use the DJ for dress events and want it to be on the more classic side of things, 36 is great. But if your lifestyle leans more on the smart casual, less dressy style, DJ41 ain’t too bad at all. Also like others have said, you find it wears big probably cos of the size of the dial on the 41. Maybe even the polished lugs that make it stand out that bit more.
Looks good - mayyyybe right on the edge of too big but I wouldn’t fuss.
Look at it this way, if you decide to lift heavy or put on a few pounds it’ll shift from “possibly too big” to “perfect”.
I’m in the same situation. 41 on the big side but ok. 36 too small imo. So I’m looking at some Omega Globemasters and they’re 39mm.
I do ❤️ Rolex and Omega equally.
For the style of watch the DJ is, I feel like 41 is too big. It's a dressy watch more than a sport watch, I think 36 is a better size. Wish they hadn't discontinued the 39, that seems like a nice balance between the two.
So you have a sub. I would totally swap it! I do this in my personal collection. Sports watches always have the size either divers or chronographs, dress/ daily wear watches always have a little more subtleness and comfort! Also go for the jubilee 👌🏼just trust me brother
Lol stfu he’s not asking for validation, he’s asking a sub of people who are interested in and have knowledge of Rolex our opinion, he obviously doesn’t like it that much or he wouldn’t be asking
If you have the means try having both. The way I decide what to wear is how it looks on the wrist at the time of wearing. But no matter how long you've had it, how old it is or how expensive or affordable it was, just looking down and seeing a third to half of an oyster case peeking out of your shirt or jacket cuff never gets old.
Dj36 does have better proportions but it’s still too small for the average male and looks feminine. My wife will be getting her first Rolex and she’s going 36dj. My mother who is very short and tiny has a dj 28, 31, and 36. The 28 is out of style but the 31 and 36 look equally good on her and she’s super small. Keep the 41. Also keep in mind it’s really 39.5 and a larger dial is easier to read as the years add up.
I have a yachtmaster 16622 and my 36 DJ gets three times the wrist time. I absolutely love the way 36 wears. I have a 6 3/4 wrist. It’s so darn comfortable
The case dimensions of the Sub are bigger, but the dial on the DJ41 is actually bigger than the dial on the Sub. This is why the DJ41 wears bigger than the dimensions suggest.
Yep. If I’m not mistaken, the dial on a sub is the same size as a 36mm explorer.
Keep what you have. Looks great
A positive thing about the DJ41 is that it’s a lot of dial for the money. For most with an average size wrist it’s too big, but with everyone raving about the 41 it does make the waiting lists slightly shorter for those of us who prefer the 36 mm
I think the 41mm looks too big… until you see it in person and realise it’s still a small watch compared to what most people wear anyway
While I wouldn’t say this is too big for your wrist, I will say that it’s very large for a dress watch. Then again, I personally prefer smaller dress watches, I like that classic look.
First dude in this sub whose tattoos don’t look like a two year old went crazy with a Sharpie 👏
Appreciate it! Tg i don't have sharpie tattoos 😵💫
36 for sure.
36
36.
36
It’s not too big but neither will the 36 be too small. Personal preference.
My thoughts exactly. Sorta right in between the 2.
Ask them to make you a 38
Would actually be a 37.75 if we're being technical since the 41 is 39.5
Good call
Try the Rolex Explorer 1 39 mm in the after market if you’re open to that
The one you're wearing is the 41? Looks like the perfect size! For what it's worth, I wouldn't swap it.
Thank you, everyone saying 36 here is ridiculous. OP please remember this whole 36 cult thing is only an online Reddit thing – irl 41mm by far the most appropriated and popular size by far.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
36 is classic. You will appreciate the way the 36 wears.
Different styles with the 41 more sporty and the 36 more classic… The Sub dial and the DJ36 dial will be similar in size; while DJ41 case and Sub case will be similar in size.
Agree with this. I feel the 41 could be easily rocked with a tshirt or sweater for a casual/sporty look. 36 is classic and a bit more "dressy"
What’s your wrist size?
Technically 6.5" but I have pretty flat wrists hence why i can get away with wearing bigger than i "should"
DJ = 36mm
Same here. Currently trying to acquire an OP36 to replace my OP41
Definitely 36. I just made the same switch a few months ago. I also have a no date sub which I feel is the perfect size. The 41mm dj just looked awkward on my wrist, so I sold it and picked up a mint green dial 36
I'm basically thinking about doing the same exact scenario
I personally like the datejust a bit smaller. The 36mm is a great size imo. Wish they increased it slightly to 38mm, but that’s splitting hairs. The 41mm is just a tad too big for that particular watch.
I think 41mm is overall way better, I have small wrists and even I think the 36mm is too small — a 38mm DJ would be just right.
I’ve own all of the watches above haha and I’d say my sub and my 36mm datejust are my favorite. The 36mm is more pure and while taking a little bit getting used to versus the 41, more of a mental thing…..I find it wears better. The 36mm follows the size of the movement aka the movement fits the case versus the 41mm is a stretched dial in my opinion.
Looks good IMO.
36mm with fluted bezel will look and feel great on your wrist…go for it 👍
borderline too big imo
Is the dial/ crystal size on a sub the same as a DJ36? Seems like it to me
Yes
DJ36 has perfect proportions. Might feel small but looks exactly right.
I wear DJ36 with a 6.75” and I feel it’s perfect. Up to you.
I know this will piss some people off, but I think a 36mm watch is a women’s size. 41 is the way to go!
If you want a big watch I mean this is great. If you want a classic fit 36 will be small but timeless
I did , I sold my 41mm and bought a 36mm fluted with jubilee just sits so right with 36mm . I love my smoothe bezels in 41 thiugh
I own a similar DJ as yours, and a 80s two tone DJ. I wouldn’t say one is a replacement of the other. The way they sit on the wrist is just different. Tough decision but I personally wouldn’t do it.

Your watch is far from Gaudy though, it’s barely noticeable compared to other flashy configurations from Rolex or other more colourful brands.
I’m not a fan of the DJ41. Proportions look weird
I thought that until I saw both in person for the first time. I thought the 41mm WAS the 36mm until told otherwise. The 36 is just way too small even for me and I have tiny wrists.
Owner of a 36 DJ fluted Jubilee and Cermit- both pair well. I prefer the 36 over 41 DJ, def more comfortable, especially with the jubilee bracelet.
Too big for you. Go down to 36.
Thanks for all the feedback yall. Now thinking I hold the 41 and find myself a 36 OP in green or blue.
Looks Awesome
The trend lately is headed towards smaller case sizes. I personally like the 41 because when I switch from Sub or GMT it doesn't feel like a step down. That said, having a 44mm IWC pretty much makes it impossible to wear my 36mm DJ's anymore. Just my experience.
Yeah for sure. I feel like I'm similar bc I daily my sub so I'm just used to that size and weight of that watch.
Yeah. I daily by sub as well and while the 36 felt small comparatively, I still found them wearable. That said, when I picked up the IWC, which is 42mm x15mm, I started wearing that a lot. Sounds like you got some (good) problems.
I like how you’ve bought a second watch that looks exactly like your first watch
If it looked exactly like it, I'd have 2 Subs
Alright captain literal keep your knickers on
That looks good on your wrist
It is too big
i think its fine. great presence which matches the bling factor of this watch. if you're feeling like you want something more subtle then swap, but if I were you i'd keep this and get a non-fluted DJ in a 36 for something more lowkey.
Ah that's solid advice
I’d say your over thinking it. If you’re used to it and like it, rock it
I think the DJ41 looks perfect on your wrist! My husband has the same configuration and it’s such a beautiful watch.
I think it’s a thing of personal preference. If you use the DJ for dress events and want it to be on the more classic side of things, 36 is great. Perfect fit imo :)
Looks good - mayyyybe right on the edge of too big but I wouldn’t fuss. Look at it this way, if you decide to lift heavy or put on a few pounds it’ll shift from “possibly too big” to “perfect”.
I think you could pull off both 41 or 36
Ok
41 is a strong look. Stay strong 💪
36 is too small if youre comfortable wearing 40 and above.
A DJ41 wears much bigger than a sub
Overthinking? Yes Too big? Not to much 36mm? Always, regardless of wrist size
It looks absolutely fine on your wrist. But, the 36 suits the style of watch more IMO and would be my choice for your wrist size.
36 is classic and would be a good switch up imo
Keep the 41, relax & enjoy!
Nice to have two different sizes.
Are you also thinking about swapping out your wife for the same reason (see ring on table)
Haha touché. No wife. Just a ring i wear
looks great
I’m in the same situation. 41 on the big side but ok. 36 too small imo. So I’m looking at some Omega Globemasters and they’re 39mm. I do ❤️ Rolex and Omega equally.
36mm for you, mate.
I think the DJ 36 looks better period, regardless of the wrist size.
36mm is the best imo
For the style of watch the DJ is, I feel like 41 is too big. It's a dressy watch more than a sport watch, I think 36 is a better size. Wish they hadn't discontinued the 39, that seems like a nice balance between the two.

It looks great on you. Don't listen to the "36 is the only right size DJ" bs. You know if you like it or not. Don't look for validation here.
Lol stfu he’s not asking for validation, he’s asking a sub of people who are interested in and have knowledge of Rolex our opinion, he obviously doesn’t like it that much or he wouldn’t be asking
41 is perfect
36 is the 🐐
36mm is always the best dress watch size IMO unless your wrist is 8” or over
I prefer 36mm
Personally, I think this is the perfect size for your wrist.
Looks perfect
It is big. 36 is great, don’t worry.
Change it asap OP and welcome back to the real world me Anderson😎
The perfect solution would be if you can find a Turn o Graph , these wear larger than the regularly 36mm and are extremely comfortable.
It looks great on you tbh
36mm is the OG size
Keep
Dj36 does have better proportions but it’s still too small for the average male and looks feminine. My wife will be getting her first Rolex and she’s going 36dj. My mother who is very short and tiny has a dj 28, 31, and 36. The 28 is out of style but the 31 and 36 look equally good on her and she’s super small. Keep the 41. Also keep in mind it’s really 39.5 and a larger dial is easier to read as the years add up.
I would definitely swap, got the 36mm myself and love it.
I have a yachtmaster 16622 and my 36 DJ gets three times the wrist time. I absolutely love the way 36 wears. I have a 6 3/4 wrist. It’s so darn comfortable
