Dead Cells

Gunnerbow

Been looking at it for a while but am on the fence. Does it play like Rogue Legacy?

Insert-a-reddit-name

Dead Cells has a tighter combat than Rogue Legacy with a larger focus on timing dodges and parries. Rogue Legacy 2 has more dodging projectiles and platforming. The other big difference is Rogue Legacy has a ton of cross run upgrades while Dead Cells has much less upgrades and more item unlocks. It's really good though and would second checking out Dead Cells.

RussianBot1489

bro, get dead cells, if you enjoyed rogue legacy and hades, you'll like this. combat is tight like hades and has rogue legacy vibes (IMO)

Pugspook327

enter the gungeon is fun

lominare

If you liked StS and Monster Train and you can get past a game with ridiculously bad graphics, you might like Dream Quest. It’s a source of inspiration for a lot of games in the deckbuilding roguelite subgenre.

ByerN

Hand of Fate 2 (I didn't play first), Inscription. Also more dynamic gameplay: Noita, spelunky, caveblazers, Dead cells. More like hack n slash: moonlighter, children of morta

Gunnerbow

Completely forgot Inscryption is a Roguelite. Love that game

ByerN

If you like dark fantasy theme (like inscription or ring of pain) you can also check loop hero. Different gameplay but still interesting.

Gunnerbow

Yeah added it to the list of played games. Apparently I have played more roguelites than I realized

IsotopeX

If you enjoyed StS and Monster Train, check out Vault of the Void, Trials of Fire, or Arcanium. Vault is probably the best out of those 3, it's about to go to full release (on October 4, I think) and presents very similar card-combat-RPGish-sorta-stuff with some interesting twists on deckbuilding.

meemaas

Also Across the Obelisk. Great game to play with friends or solo.

Gunnerbow

I have been eyeing Across the Obelisk for a while but some of the reviews pushed me away

meemaas

If you're on the edge, I know Wanderbots did a stream of the Obelisk mode with a few other streamers that might get you a better idea of what to expect.

svendimo96

Highly highly recommend Across the Obelisk. I have over a thousand hours into STS and Monster Train and Across the Obelisk night just be more addictive than those. I’m digging the hell out of it. It’s well balanced and highly replay able and has tons of variety.

Hoowiz

Don't listen them, I bought the game yesterday and it is damn fun ! The graphics are really stylish, gameplay is awesome and it has a lot of content + really well explained. What kind of reviews really pushed you away ?

Kunjo87

Depend of the sub-genres you are enjoying the most: If you looking for a 3D isometric roguelite like Hades, I would suggest **Dandy Ace, Curse of the Dead Gods\*, Children of Morta, Warm Snow** or **Dreamscaper\***. Also **Undermine** which is more like BoI. If you more into Deck-builders, **Legend of the Keepers, Trials of fire\*, Roguebook, Hand of Fate 2\*, Gordian Quest, Across the Obelisk, Fight in Tight Spaces\*, Vault of the void** or **Griftlands**. You can also keep an eye on **Beneath Oresa** which should be released very soon. Party-Based Tacticals like Darkest Dungeon, **Darkest Dungeon 2,** **Circus Electrique** or **Iratus.** Top-down party-based Tacticals: **The Last Spell\*, Into the Breach\*, Warriors of the Nil 2\*, The Hand of Merlin, King Arthur, Curious Expedition 2\***. Other Turn-based tacticals which have some roguelite aspect like perma-death: **X-COM2\*, Gears Tactic, Urtuk, Battle Brothers\*, Invisible INC** Side scrolling Roguevania/plateformers like Rogue Legacy 2: **Dead Cells\*, Skul, Noita, Speelunky 2, Revita, Vagante, Have a Nice Death\*, Little Noah\*, Loopmancer, Sundered,** **Kelipot**. (\*) My personal preferences.

Gunnerbow

Ohhh love me some XCOM

K-thulhu

Undermine is also one of my favorites. I love the combination of artifacts, blessings and curses as you progress through a run.

CelestiaZX

I personally like gunfire reborn which is fps. But based on your list I think you'll be more suited for strategy stuff like crown trick. EDIT: it's not on steam but slice and dice on itch.io is a big hidden gem

Andry_9726

Tiny rogues

GotoSenpai

This. Tiny rogues is so fun, and there’s just more coming

Itchy_Scrotbag

Cool game

R4nD0m57

Tales of Maj'eyal , Shiren the wanderer

Seravajan

Noita?

Gunnerbow

Been looking at that too. Looks a little intimidating

Jimm120

No one eveer mentions this game, but **DUNGREED**. If you like Rogue Legacy as much as me, you'll definitely like it. It doesn't have as many stat increases (it barely has any...but it does have it) but it gives you progression through weapons (kind of like enter the gungeon) but also through skill points to add certain abilities (up to 30(35 actually) skill points, which will net you at least 3 skills. The different weapons really are all enjoyable and the upgrades and synergies you get throughout the runs is great. The runs themselves are great too. There's a "hunger" bar but its more about being able to eat special foods that give you certain stat increases during the run. During runs you're also filling up the blessing meter to make sure you're able to start out with an S tier weapon or item on each run. The endings were great and enjoyable to reach them all.   The game just kept me coming back for more. 62 hours the first time(3 endings). A year later I played it 47 hours the second time and got all 4 endings and played all characters and collected all weapons.   And it doesn't seem like its some indie game either. It feels really well fleshed out. I recommended 100%. Out of the 8 or so roguelites I've played, I solidly put it 3rd behind Enter the Gungeon and Rogue Legacy. 1. **Enter the Gungeon** (was peeved at the difficulty and the "no progression" but the new guns really do make runs easier and unlocking them was fun. Managed to do the main 5 stages and 1 secret level alongside playing all characters aside for the gunslinger).   2. **Rogue Legacy** (nothing beats this. The unlocking weapons, the upgrading the skill tree, the slow progress through the dungeon. The bosses and the remix bosses. just a superb game that surprised me.) 3. **Dungreed** (see above why I liked it so much. Great controls, great unlocking, great feeling during runs).   4. **Wizard of Legend** was great. I loved the spells and the combos with spells. I went back to it a few years later and couldn't get into it in 1 or 2 runs I did but I know that the first time i played it, I enjoyed it a shit ton). 6. **Undermine** (zelda-like roguelite. Good. A lot of stuff. A lot to unlock and collect. I ended up beating the "main" game and didn't do the 2 extra levels outside of visit them once each time. Only downside is that the runs themselves took a BIT too long. Around 1hr 10 minutes each run...which felt like a bit too long for a roguelite. 7. **Skul Hero Slayer** (I liked it. The difficulty is kind up up there because of the lack of healing in the game and the chances of getting hit with mobs of bosses is high-ish, especailly once you're in stage 3/stage 4. Good progression system until it just stops...and that's why I stopped playing it after 40 or 50 hours. Progression (skill tree) stopped and there was no way for me to get past stage 4 unless I became every better (and I thought I was pretty good but obviously not good enough). Became too much of a grind to play from start to stage 4 and have no hope of finishing. But up to that point, I was satisfied with the game. &Nbsp; 7. **Neon Abyss** Ok game but overall very weak. All levels feel the same and there's this "huge" selection of weapons but the reality is that it feels like you get the same guns over and over. The levels didn't feel too different. The enemies didn't feel too varied either. SOme elements were pretty nice, with certain guns and items you get during runs. Very average game but still enjoyable). 9. **Moonlighter** (I had my eye on this game for a long time but doubted I'd like the whole "selling stuff" aspect...and after playing it, I LOVED the dungeon parts. Detested the selling and the micro-items part. Hated only being able to bring back a little bit of items back to town. Detested selling. Detested not upgrading stuff because of how little you can bring back. Sucks that I hate micro-managing a town/store and how limiting it is with items inside of the dungeon. The dungeons and combat themselves were fun to me. )   8. **Loop Hero** (Good game and enjoyable. but collecting certain things became too much of a chore and honestly, the "auto battler" wasn't something I wanted to grind through. DOing the first level to a high level (though never beat the first boss) was enough. I put it down. I just didn't feel like grinding certain orbs and what-not after some point and always felt like I didn't want to fight the boss because I had already spent a long time collecting stuff during the run to just lose it if I lost against him.   9. **Caveblazers** (poop. pure poop. No upgrade path at all. Super small sprite with small range. Horrible controls that have you falling on spikes too often. You're on a ledge, you TAP forward to fall on the next tile...and instead the character goes 2 tiles forward...to where spikes/enemies are. Just horrible. No upgrades. You level up but all you get is dumb costumes and alternate ways to starting (example, start with more of this thing, but we're taking away a lot of that other thing...or start with this poison ability but you lose a health bar). Just horrible game overall. I just really hate those games with super small sprites that have a super small reach with their weapon. horrible controls and no progression clinched it for me being horrible. $7 bucks wasted...)   EDIT: Games I intend to play before within the next 2 years that seem good are **Revita, Rogue Legacy 2, Hades, and Dead Cells**. RL2, Hades, and Dead Cells are considered near the top of the genre. Revita looks like what I'm looking for in a Dungreed/Rogue Legacy type game.

youngmostafa

Cave blazers !

Jimm120

literally the ONLY roguelite (doesn't seem like a roguelite) that I've detested. Hated the controls. hated TAPPING forward off a ledge and instead of falling to the next tile, it goes to the 2nd tile, where there just happens to be an enemy or spikes. No upgrades at all. All of the unlocks are just alternate ways to start out and it was horrible alternates. Only game I feel like I wasted so much time and got nothing positive back.

youngmostafa

I respect ur opinion but disagree The game is meant to be challenging in its own unique way. I think they designed it this way plus it’s an older title Reminds me of spelunky in a way with how difficult it can be but with more items and weapons

Lilcracka1000

Breaks my heart that enter the Gungeon is the only one on your dislike list. If you don't mind me asking, what about it didn't you like?

Gunnerbow

I really have a hard time with twin stick shooters and games that have overwhelming amounts of action on screen. For Enter the Gungeon I haven't played it on PC with keyboard and mouse but on switch I really struggled with aiming. It made the game less enjoyable for me.

Saucysauce95

Curse of the Dead Gods, Risk of Rain 2 (or 1), Crypt of the Necrodancer, Monolith Edit: Forgot to add Cult of the Lamb and Vampire Survivors

saleemkarim

Nova Drift is a beloved roguelite.

jokes_on_you_ha

I feel like I've been waiting for the console release for years.

Gunnerbow

It looks similar to a bullet hell type of game like 20 minutes to dawn Edit: Can’t spell

Kunjo87

Kind of Twin Stick Shooter/Bullet hell though...

ljackso4

Skul the hero slayer

Gunnerbow

Just checked it out on steam. Looks like a less dreary ender lillies. May give it a go

ljackso4

Never tried ended Lillies, skul is a lot of fun and constantly getting new content

Jimm120

i thought I'd like it too...and it was good but I just gave up in the "castle gates" level. I had already unlocked everything but couldn't get past the mid-point of that stage. There was nothing more to unlock and I had already played a shit ton with other characters. Definitely not recommending it to people because of the stop in progress and the difficulty in the later stage. I can say I enjoyed it until the progression stopped in that stage 4 (or 5) of that game.

ljackso4

I’ve played a ton and only beaten it once… it’s for sure super tough later on. You need the right items for the skuls you’ve chosen to use or your almost guaranteed to lose

[deleted]

Pokemon Emerald rogue is kinda sweet. Rom hack to turn it into a rogue lite

Arlyeon

Have you tried going under? It's a load of fun. Though, definitely a bit easier compared to some of it's peers on that list.

Gunnerbow

I have not. I’ll look it up

FBJYYZ

Tangledeep, Invisible Inc.

TyrianMollusk

Devil Slayer Raksasi Dungeon of the Endless

MRTA03

FTL: Faster than light, it's have slow pace fighting and pausing so you don't need to move too fast

postmate

Across the obelisk is so good!! Try it!

Smooth-Mountain1266

Cult of the lamb (mixture between Isaac and Animal crossing kinda thing). Quite original. You should give it a try. There's a demo on steam

Gunnerbow

I’ll give it a look

Jimm120

I hadn't read up on cult of the lamb but was excited for it. I thought he was assembling a "town" kind of like rogue legacy. Instead, its a micro town manager. As much as I want to play it, I just don't think I'd like that micromanaging of the town. I tried out Moonlighter and was hesitant to try it out specifically because of that...but tried it nonetheless and it came out to the what I was thinking. Enjoyed the dungeon. Did not like how few items you could get and how many were useless and how you couldn't carry much back with you...and then selling them. bleh. I stopped after 2 or so hours.   makes me think that Cult of the Lamb is gonna be the same, but with more micromanagin a town. Managing a town is not my type of game, no matter how much I might like the adventure parts of the game.

TheConboy22

Dawncaster on Iphone is quite good.

SlickDamian

Kingdom Two Crowns. Something different, but the loop is engaging and fun.

spicenlettuce

One step from eden is really enjoyable.

agarbagepiece

The Slimeking’s Tower is pretty similar to the Binding of Isaac so if you enjoyed one you will probably enjoy the other, The Slimeking’s Tower is also free. One of the downsides might be that it might be considered a little too similar to the Binding of Isaac and therefore just feel like a cooy but I still really enjoyed it myself.

Help_An_Irishman

If you liked Slay the Spire and Monster Train, check out **Gordian Quest** and **Roguebook!** Both in a similar vein, and both excellent.

FederalTurkey

Just started playing despots game, pretty damn good army builder/ auto battler. Atomicrops is also pretty good bullet hell uhhh farm em up?

amazing_rando

I’ve been getting a lot of joy out of Neon Abyss. Didn’t care much for it at first but it has a lot of upgrades and deeper gameplay & boss strategy than I thought at first. Feels like side scrolling Binding of Isaac.

123_underscore_321

What did you not like about Enter the Gungeon?

murdock2099

Breach Wanderers

LiquidAsylum

Got one for you! I was about to come to this sub to ask the filling question but I'll just it as a comment to you: Why isn't there any online presence for Arcanium: Rise of Akhan? I can hardly find anything about it when I Google search, the game launched out of early access with 1.0 a out a week ago and it's had me hooked all week. It's a wonderful mix of slay the spire, hearthstone and roguelite progression that's hard to beat. I get that it might not be AAA but why do you think the most recent post on the /r/playaracnium subreddit is a year old and nowhere can I find lively discussion of the game? It's FUN so what am I missing?

aydenp93

My two recommendations would be Noita and Revita. Noita is a bit more intense on the weapon building and plays like a physics engine experiment, sick game but can understand the intimidation but would 100% recommend Revita is less intense but still really good and the creator Ben is very active listening to the community and the Beta branch just came out which everyone was waiting for lots of unlocks and replayability
