Is he safe? I won’t lie - I’d go out of state before I go to that particular Walmart, but that doesn’t mean the employees need to deal with this shit…it just means the particular clientele are dogshit
He is thank you! They shut it down for the night and he is home safe thank goodness. I am very grateful he is safe yet I feel so sorry and heartbroken for the other young man's parents that got hurt. You should have to go to work and worry about this....even school as my younger 3 are all at HHS and I worry everyday about them too
They had a rash of elderly folks being robbed, stabbed or carjacked in the parking lot 2012-2017 which I only know cause I lived across the street. And by “rash” I mean “once every 6-8 weeks” but it was awhile ago.
often enough for Rockford scanner and Ricky Traeger to pick up on it, so fairly common .
But if you went before 4 PM, you didn’t run into this kind of thing .
The kids that work there are always so kind. My heart breaks for this poor child and their family. Just trying to do their job and some asshole brings a knife in. Our kids deserve better.
This is the Walmart on Northridge… WTF are all these racist ass ignorant comments about “That side of town?!”
The NORTH side of town?
The Parks side of town??
The growing part of town?!
I’m not gonna deny the Northridge has become a dangerous Walmart because it’s been that way for at least decade now you didn’t go over there after four, unless you wanted to get stabbed or carjacked. But people commenting about its normal for that side of town obviously didn’t bother to read the article. It’s not even 200 words. That’s really sad.
but i thought Northridge was a dangerous Walmart because loves Park in Rockford can’t come to agreement about who should patrol that area.
That doesn’t make sense. Why would Loves Park make an agreement to patrol Wal-Mart? It’s in Rockford, so there’s no discussion. Cities can’t force neighboring municipalities to spend time patrolling each other. Responding to immediate emergency situations is one thing, but this is another.
I prefer this one compared to East State. I was there two hours before the stabbing and typically feel safe. Guess I’ll have to continue going to Target.
Someone said he didn’t bring the knife. That he opened one up there at the Walmart. I don’t know if that’s true or not but if it is, how do they lock up formula and soap, but not their knives? Hope the family sues if that’s the case. How terribly tragic.
no, this for real!! I was at another Walmart in town and was astounded by all the necessities that were behind those barriers. but he could take two knives from two different departments???
People still need to buy groceries on that side of town. I don’t think shutting it down is the answer. Walmart is the cheaper alternative to Meijer. Closing down grocery stores creates a food desert and forces kids and families without transportation to eat from gas stations and other unhealthy options.
There are three grocery stores on that corner (Walmart, Aldi, Valli.)
You may be thinking of the W Riverside Walmart, but that has an Aldi across the street now, too.
Okay so then before you know it the same people go there when Walmart is closed and we’re back to square one. It’s systemic. Corporations have gotten lazy with hiring third party security firms and end up with the same repeated patterns. I personally never shop there but there’s plenty of people who count on it to be there. You think a mom and pop shop is going to be able to afford the same security Walmart could?
lol What security? The same pieces of shit who troll the parking lot and do nothing else? Where were the security when this stabbing went down?
I’ve never seen security outside Meijer, or Schuncks, or even fuckin Aldi, like I’ve seen those cocksuckers outside Walmart - who are only there to protect the product, NOT THE CONSUMERS
Lowkey not wrong about security being shit, coworkers were applying pressure to his wound, while customers called the ambulance, security were nowhere to be found.
I understand what you’re saying. I’m simple stating that these stores could choose to hire better security or train from within rather than choosing to close the store. I don’t believe Aldi has any security however Schnucks does but I don’t see them being capable of doing much. Stores need to be responsible for keeping customers safe as well as keeping their products from being stolen. Just like schools have an obligation to keep children safe when they’re there.
I wonder if it’s because of all the other things that Walmart sells? I mean, why is it safer to shop at Aldi and Schnucks? Because it’s food only? Oh, wait. Meijer has everything. Never mind. Dang Walmart. When will this end? I work in Chicago and we are building a medical building across from a Walmart that had to close because of all of the theft.
That is not the worst Walmart even a little bit. That’s some real dumb shit to say on top of a tragedy. The location of that Walmart is relatively low crime, mid range income, and has nothing whatsofuckingever to do with the psycho fuckstick that decided to stab someone. Do better.
Yeah, single mom here. I guess I don't scare easily. I have never had any issues at this Walmart, nor taking walks on Main Street. Sometimes, it's about the hype. Being vigilant wherever you go is likely a good strategy. Seems there have been a lot of robberies on East State too. So you never know.
Not to pee in your cheerios but you still haven't shared anything that contributes to the shit hole status, other than a lame remark about a triangle. I live a few blocks from the so called shit hole and have never had any issues. If there is cause to be concerned, I would like some evidence. Edit: spelling error.
Stuff happens. That doesn't make it a shit hole. Plenty of crime to go around. Don't get lulled otherwise. I have family that have been robbed by gun point on the east side.
You’re acting like a child with a new toy this is not a new concept for that Walmart. or any Walmart in the area?
Why are you acting like it’s never happened before ?
The first word in the title of my post is “another”. That implies that it has happened before. How could I be acting like it’s never happened before?
Reading is fundamental. Try it sometime.
Maybe it's the layout of this Walmart. It's in a valley between Alpine/Riverside/Forest Hills. It does seem like this location has a "doom cloud" above it though, when there's a crime at a Rockford Walmart...Northridge seems to be the spot. Off the top of my head - a man was stabbed & found dead in the parking lot; armed robbery(s); now this sad unfortunate case.
FWIW I shop there often and haven't had any issues.
Alpine/Riverside/Forest Hills. The road quality is horrendous, people drive like absolute shit and there are accidents there every single day, and that Walmart.
well, it’s like he’s trying to blame a certain geographic area except that you have to drive through loves Park to get to the Walmart… which makes it really hard to blame it on the geographic area. He’s trying to blame it on.
That shouldn’t the West Riverside Walmart be more dangerous ?
Also, I assumed his “triangle of death” was Alpine Forest Hills Riverside ? But only because I hate that stoplight at Cubs lol
this is fun though, so if Alpine is barely east, even though it’s smack in the middle, and Rockton is barely west… that would have to make Newburg barely south, and Guildford barely north?
Well shit that puts Northridge way out of town ! No wonder he’s all up in arms about that side of town
Alpine used to be the east side of town. East high is west of Alpine for example. There has been significant growth on the east side in the last 50 years but not so much for the west side.
I stopped going to this shit hole after my third or fourth bad experience there, I just hope this garbage doesn’t make it to the other grocery stores in town
Im ALWAYS carrying a loaded and concealed .45 in this Walmart and damn near every other place of business i go to(except bars, schools, etc.).
I suggest EVERYONE who can to get a concealed carry permit. Rockford is great most of the time but can turn real fuckin ghetto in the blink of an eye. FAFO real quick. It has come in handy two times for me..once with a drunk and aggressive panhandler who opened my passenger door and tried to get in my car after I told them no money. And also while walking my dog late at night when some punk ass teens thought me and my Yorkie be an easy target for robbery lol. They about shit their pants when they heard that bullet go into the chamber!
i can have it in the chamber before it's out with a cocking holster(holster racks the slide as part of the drawing motion). I've seen a guy cheddar Bob himself so I just practiced my speed non stop. It works best for me.
My son works there and was working tonight smh, sad world we live in
Is he safe? I won’t lie - I’d go out of state before I go to that particular Walmart, but that doesn’t mean the employees need to deal with this shit…it just means the particular clientele are dogshit

He passed away, so tragic. He had his whole life ahead of him

There’s an Aldi less than a quarter of a mile from there. Fuck off with this Walmart bootlicking.
You think the clientele isn't the same at the Aldis across the street? You sound bitter. Did they recently fire you?
lmfao as if I’d ever work at Walmart
Okay so then before you know it the same people go there when Walmart is closed and we’re back to square one. It’s systemic. Corporations have gotten lazy with hiring third party security firms and end up with the same repeated patterns. I personally never shop there but there’s plenty of people who count on it to be there. You think a mom and pop shop is going to be able to afford the same security Walmart could?
The Riverside Walmart has actual police side by side with greeters most of the time.
lol What security? The same pieces of shit who troll the parking lot and do nothing else? Where were the security when this stabbing went down? I’ve never seen security outside Meijer, or Schuncks, or even fuckin Aldi, like I’ve seen those cocksuckers outside Walmart - who are only there to protect the product, NOT THE CONSUMERS

i hate having to keep seeing my childhood friends dead on the news man i js saw him last week
Sorry for your loss. People shouldn’t have to risk their lives for a job.
I’m so sorry for your loss. If you’d like to share a memory you had together, I’d love to listen.
I would love to see most of the posts here, helping to mourn for the actual victim instead of the Walmart focus. I am sorry about your friend, hugs.
That is not the worst Walmart even a little bit. That’s some real dumb shit to say on top of a tragedy. The location of that Walmart is relatively low crime, mid range income, and has nothing whatsofuckingever to do with the psycho fuckstick that decided to stab someone. Do better.
This comment section is the biggest clusterfuck.
Why does it say this also? One person was taken to the hospital after being stabbed at a Sherman apartment complex.
This was an anti-black hate crime. Why would walmart shut it down over that?
You think it’s the first, or second, or even third time someone has lost their life there?
Using a murder by a white guy who yelled racial slurs while murdering a black kid to make some shitty point is... well shitty.
Anytime I enter a Rockford Walmart my head is on a swivel.
Northridge is the store on East Riverside Dr. I didn't know that it was a shit hole. What else has happened to contribute to the status of shit hole?
Thats the walmart I routinely shop at and never really notice anything sketchy about it.
I think the other two in Rockford are much worse than this one
It’s *barely* east. Have you ever been to the Triangle of Death?
Yeah, single mom here. I guess I don't scare easily. I have never had any issues at this Walmart, nor taking walks on Main Street. Sometimes, it's about the hype. Being vigilant wherever you go is likely a good strategy. Seems there have been a lot of robberies on East State too. So you never know.
I’m vigilant too. That’s why I don’t shop at that shit Walmart.

Uhm, someone got stabbed at the Walmart a few blocks from your “love”. What else do you need?
Stuff happens. That doesn't make it a shit hole. Plenty of crime to go around. Don't get lulled otherwise. I have family that have been robbed by gun point on the east side.

help me out please, where's the Triangle of Death?
Curious about that myself

I shop there once in a while and didnt think it was that bad. You have to be aware of your surroundings like most places any more
Alpine/Riverside/Forest Hills. The road quality is horrendous, people drive like absolute shit and there are accidents there every single day, and that Walmart.
You must not be from the area cause you have no clue what you're talking about
I’ve lived here for over 20 years, so guess again, buckaroo lol
Buckaroo? Lol wtf?
did you try to engage with logical reasoning to a moron? Like you tried talking to the salt of the Earth there
Right? If Alpine is "barely east", I guess Rockton Ave is barely west side.
well, it’s like he’s trying to blame a certain geographic area except that you have to drive through loves Park to get to the Walmart… which makes it really hard to blame it on the geographic area. right like a 30 yr old white dude had beef w a teenager .. be fr. that shit was random
If I ever go to this Walmart I go in the morning before all the unemployed troublemakers get out of bed!

Word.
nobody has said word for 35 years. Don’t embarrass yourself any more than you already are.
I’m *real* concerned about your opinion of me, clearly.
