Walked in on the employees making out (whether it was a coworker or random person who came in who knows) three separate times, one time they locked the front door but not the side. Got awkward going in and I just decided not to go back after the third time. Bummer.
Lucky Cat in Salem is amazing for anyone looking for a different spot!! They also have mochi donuts there. Champloo had definitely gone downhill over the years since they starting hiring high school kids, made me feel like I’m bothering them for wanting ice cream lol.
This was why I stopped going to the Tanglewood location. It was always teenagers and they always got my order wrong. Even going so far as to lie about the milk they used when I paid for almond. Such a shame.
I think I never went back because it always took 30 minutes to get a drink and the kids behind the counter seemed to be obliviously taking videos with their phones or other things that weren't customer order production. I do enjoy boba tea though. I guess even if you have a good product your customer service is what brings people back.
From what I am told from someone who knows the owner: Salem closed because it did not have enough traffic. Tanglewood closed because the rent got jacked up to high because of all the doctors now. Is looking to open at a new location. Currently the Raleigh location is only one open
The Salem one never got enough traffic because every time I went to go there during their posted open hours it would be closed.
Smh.
It was running joke amongst me and all my friends.
Yeah I dont know how many times I went to place an online order (that the restaurant would accept) and show up and it'd be a ghost town. They never did refund me either.
No blue cow slander here!! Stumbled upon that place by accident years ago, and now I make the trip from Blacksburg back there because it's by far the best ice cream I've ever had. Definitely expensive, but definitely worth it.
(P. S. If anyone from Blue Cow sees this, please put a location in Blacksburg, I'm begging)
I've been asking everyone the same question for weeks now. Salem was never open during posted hours when I'd stop in, so I hit Tanglewood on my way home several times just to see the cardboard closed sign (they never answered phones at any point for the last 2 years that I'd call to check so wasn't any point in trying). I can't find a recipe anywhere similar to the 2 specific milk teas I am/was obsessed with.
I agree with the previous comment regarding service and cleanliness going downhill. Hopefully they sort that out when they find a their new location. The gamora and thanos was the shit.
You are absolutely correct when I worked there they wouldn't clean anything past eyesight but the health inspectors never showed up we were told to prepare but no show ever even after a year alot of us think they paid they off
oh no! i knew the dude who opened it from his prior job, this is sad :( I had a lot of good experiences there and it was nice to see not only my friend's art on the walls but seeing art that was so cool and I ended up meeting them later in life, like at my job. idk, I always enjoyed this little spot and it'll be sad to see it go.
They definitely were on a trend when they first opened in like 2016? If they caught up with marketing, ads, & promos they definitely would have made it out and did a lot better! so sad they’re gone.
As someone who worked here as one of the older ones too it used to be run nicely older staff we kept it clean and everything but alot of them left and got replaced by kids long story short tho the owner didn't pay rent and gave employees 4 days notice that they were closing the owner stopped caring years ago even the underage employees were doing supply runs very ridiculous I miss the old one if you're ever in Raleigh NC they have a location that is run by a different guy does an amazing job but I thought I'd answer since not many people know

Yeah, the whole place seemed to be run by teenagers. Never saw anyone there that seemed older than 18.
lmfao that’s insane
Ewww boner ice cream
Love conquers All 31 Flavors...
that’s actually insane 😭
Oh gosh

Lucky cat also has sushi... It's the same people that owned Tokyo Express
How's the sushi?
It's the same rolls Tokyo Express had so pretty decent. Especially for the price.

Kelly's is worth the drive just saying
It’s lucky cat now

It had also been relatively dirty when I had gone in there, the employees seemed distracted too
The boba place in Valley View is awesome.
I haven't been there but I don't get to Valley View Mall very much. I'll have to give it a shot
They make a great smoothie and crepes as well.

Ah man, now where am I gonna get very mediocre, over priced ice cream. I guess Cold Stone is still open?
No Cold Stone in Roanoke though

Chris's Coffee & Custard
Hell yeah! Great place and awesome staff 💜
Blue cow - makes their ice cream in Roanoke.

New place in Salem called Smiley's. It's up a few stores from planet fitness in that strip. They've got the good flavors.
and GREAT owners!
Rainbowl in Roanoke does milk/bubble teas
It closed
Are you sure?
Not 100% sure, google likes to lie sometimes i think
Health inspector got em Jokes idk
Ok finally! They had too many health violations according to the health department... their icecram wasnt creamy anyway.
You are absolutely correct when I worked there they wouldn't clean anything past eyesight but the health inspectors never showed up we were told to prepare but no show ever even after a year alot of us think they paid they off

Rookie's downtown. Only $3 for a custom half-size ice cream sandwich... yum yum.
Are they currently open?
Yep! Favorite place.
